I love that Elvis voice changed. If not we would have 750 similar sounding songs. This way we have young voice, opera voice, power voice etc. I think this is one of the appeals of Elvis. My favorit song voice vice is " anyway way you want me".
ELVIS always sound GREAT!!! I saw him seven times in concert and he was always WONDERFUL!!! NEVER be another one like him!! He was a gift from GOD!!! I LOVE ELVIS ❤️
wow because i live in nz and was born about the time elvis came to fame i never saw him live.but seen all his movies sing all his songs and may he rest in peace and god bless him
I totally agree with you, but he was so great that he managed a decade later to sing what was for me, the most difficult of all his songs: If I Can Dream. So, these two songs reflect different periods of vocal brilliance.
You are totally Right!!! Being a life long Elvis fan and a singer myself....Elvis's voice was polished and had total range from 60 to 64. He could rough up his voice and sing smooth and powerful!!! Long Live The King Elvis!!!!!!
Elvis's voice was such a uniquely beautiful instrument unmatched in its scope , unequalled in tone and quality, which is what makes his records sound so fresh and alive... cheers...
Just my opinion. Elvis' voice in 68 and 69 had a raw power that I've never heard equalled and never will. You want to try and sing along to Elvis singing Love me Love the Life I Lead, his breath control is incredible. Hugely underrated song that deserves to be more widely known.
Yeah I agree! His ‘69 Vegas run was out of this world, comparing the songs he sang in both August 1969 and August 1970 is crazy because he sounds absolutely crazy. For example I Can’t Stop Loving You and Words.
I’ve always thought Surrender was an incredible track. When he hits TOOO-night at the end, that would seriously give any opera singer a run for their money.
To me one of Elvis's most amazing performances was Unchained Melody right before he passed away...He was so sick yet pulled stuff from I don't know where...well it was very moving to me and informative as an artist myself...how muCh he wanted to please the audience with a full effort...yep moving...without going into the technicAL ASPECTS OF HOW HE DID IT...
finally !!! someone has noticed his incredible voice from 1960 to 1964 , I’ve been saying it for awhile now when he came back from the army in 1960 his voice took on a more mature and slightly operatic tone that’s how he was able to sing It’s now or never and Surrender in those highs and lows and end both in that high opera note at the end All the songs from that 4 year period were incredibly sung his voice at that time took on a beautiful tone and I agree with what you say about It Feels So Right I feel out of breath every time I hear him sing it is one of several blues numbers from the He’s Back Album from 1960
His masterpiece song, in my opinion, is a ballad called Tomorrow Never Comes. Play that and tell me what you think. This man is not a result of mere genetics. God did this. There is not a better male singer period. Also, his Gospel I Believe.
If you listen to his recording of the gospel song "He touched me", he reaches very high notes. I watched one of Elvis' very last performances with my quite critical dad, and he was very impressed by his performance. That says a lot.
Great insight into the mind-blowing facts of King of Rock & Roll. It was completely unknown to us about this journey of Elvis Presley. He is a class apart across all the generations.
His voice was best in the late 60’s when he came back from making movies. It was deeper and richer than ever before. It continued getting better until he died. Just listen to the last time he sang “Hurt”. The power was still there too.
I think his voice in 1960 had greatly improved in his 2 year absence, and steadily got better throughout the 60s, but 1970 was his peak, imo. I think Rags To Riches really tested him. In concert though, Hurt and How Great Thou Art in the last year and a half, he would really belt out the finishes, testing those big notes!
This is why I always championed the Elvis Is Back! album as his best and masterpiece. It’s untouchable. Also, extremely unique for the time. You can’t find any other musician that had a similar sound at that time.
@jackiron47It85 It's my favorite also. Especially when you add in the singles that were recorded at the same time, but didn't make it on to the album. I refer to: Are you lonesome tonight It's now or never Stuck on you Fame and Fortune
I completely agree! The “Elvis Is Back” album is one of my all time favorites! Please listen to: ‘Without Love’ Elvis’s range is incredible! An absolutely phenomenal song! He was back in his element! Recording his ‘Elvis Is Back’ album was Elvis saying “ I’m back, and I’m here to stay!! The rest is History! I grew up listening to Elvis, I still do, and always will! I have every song he recorded! Long live the King Of Music💗🎶🕺
Matt, please listen to “Without Love “ 1969, “Elvis Back In Memphis “ album ( I mentioned this song in my previous reply, I mistakenly thought it was on the “Elvis Is Back” album) This song is one of my all time favorites! It actually says: “Without Love (There Is Nothing) again, on the “Elvis Back In Memphis “ album. I would love to hear what you think!!
Elvis' voice may seem it changed but it was given challenges like new music introduced, tempos, recording devices, and technology changes all the way around. He sang perfect given the circumstances he was being recorded or amplified with, if any. Big changes took place in adapting to recording situations from 50's thru 70's and still today. Do not try to rate the Legend because he scored 100% in all fields.
The rasp in 68/69 is very evident to me. I seriously don’t know which anyone can state that Elvis’s voice was strongest toward the end of his life. I listen to his gospels and ballads and blues and his voice to me is just so incredible it makes me want to cry. He has a real sob in his voice.
I think a lot of his last recordings were very slurred but his operatic traits on Hurt and a few others are what makes many fans make that claim. Unfortunately he only put his foot on the accelerator in later years when he had passion for a song...his general vocal control and vibrato though were no where near as good as around 1960 when he still had that vibrant athletic tone to his voice. So I'd say if you could combine his latter power with his younger early 60s fexibility, throw in some 68 rasp and electric enthusiasm for good measure and keep the depth and power from his last recordings, losing the breathlessness and slur, you'd achieve one hell of an Elvis hybrid of eras. Love these comments as they are so much deeper and analytical than the average fan 'rose tinted shades' perspective.
@@phoenixents1557 , I agree. Although, I probably don’t appreciate the ‘operatic influence’ as much as other elements of Elvis’s voice. I think the gospels, and many of the ballads and the blues (wish he’d done more blues), appeal to me more than some of his rock and roll tunes because they seem to add a dimension to Elvis’s voice. Of course From Elvis In Memphis album has that amazing rasp/growl all the way through. I think that many female fans sadly can’t see beyond Elvis’s physical beauty. Then you read the silly ‘he was an angel’ comments. Elvis didn’t ‘nail’ everything he did. No artist did. That’s what makes them human and I love that about them.
His voice at its peak is definitely a debatable subject. Personally, his early 60’s & late 60’s voice is my favorite. Post army, the stellar control & smooth delivery, along with him finding a higher register & operatic-like abilities on songs like ‘’it’s now or never” & “surrender” is unparalleled. Still..I argue that his late 60’s voice was his absolute best. Deeper & richer, and able to ‘rediscover’ & incorporate that soulful raspiness from the 50’s made for the ‘ultimate Elvis voice’. The ‘69 Memphis sessions showcase this perfectly. 1969 & 1970 was Elvis at his peak both vocally & physically.
Elvis loved the challenges and despite how difficult a particular song could be, he felt happy to surpass himself. Thank you very much Matt, for the excellent video!!! 🥇❤️❤️❤️🙋🏻♂️🏆🎖️🏅👏👏👏🎤🎧
I’m amazed at how much you know about Elvis. Your videos are so interesting, thank you for all of this. I can’t wait to see you in Greenville on the 16th!
I like many others would have to disagree Matt. Yes 'It Feels So Right' has hard and brilliant vocals from Elvis but 'Hurt' 'LIVE' on June 23rd 1977 - 3 nights before his BEST EVER VERY LAST CONCERT on June 26th 1977, really shows how Elvis was a born Opera and Blues artiste with an 'incredible vocal range. (many reports and videos show Elvis hitting his highest top B flat and B notes and hanging on them increduously especially between the years of 1975 to June 26th 1977)♥
Hurt a great song I prefer his early stuff when Elvis was Elvis and I don’t mean any disrespect there, the slick hair those shirts that would pass even today and his versatility Elvis 54 to 63
Hitting a high note doesnt make a voice better or worse. Elvis' voice...probably because of the drugs, got higher and thinner in the mid to late 1970s. That is what you are hearing when you listen to songs of that period like Hurt. Yet when you compare that 1976-1977 voice to his voice in 1970, there is no comparison. His voice was FULLER in that late 1960s to very early 1970s period, which in my opinion, was his greatest period as a singer. His voice had matured to its peak capacity by the late 1960s. This is why I dont agree that his voice was better in the early 1960s......at that time, his voice had matured from the 1950s sound, but as the 1960s went on, his voice continued to further mature to, what I think is his peak period.....1968-1970. That is the time his voice was the strongest and fullest. Compare the 1970s version of "The Wonder of You" to the version he infrequently did in the later 1970s. His 1970 rendition is fuller and more well rounded.....the same song in 1976 shows you how thin his voice had gotten. There is no comparison.
@@johnclaba1457 I think it’s personal taste his early stuff up to 60s has so much qualities and personally I agree with a opera singer who was asked once in her opinion who was the greatest singer she replied young Elvis
Fact is Elvis' voice was higher when he was younger, the older he got the lower his voice got. IMO, the hardest song he tried to sing was "Trying to get to You", it's the one he himself said was the hardest to sing and I agree with him. Conclusion is what does it matter if hit C notes or not, he sang as well as he could and as the song came out it just happened to be the best male singing voice ever as far as entertainment purposes go, yeah there are other men that can hit higher or lower notes but if you're about to be entertained from a man singing, you want the man who walks out of the curtain to be Elvis
@@coollady2179Totally agree, first time I heard it I was in total awe... everything was right..his looks, the backing and my god that voice..a true classic...👍👍👍👍
My peak of being an Elvis fan was when I was in middle school and high school. I have no addition to the conversation as to when Elvis' voice was at its peak. However, I saw the video title and guessed that the song to be featured was "It Feels So Right", mainly because, in my mind, that song just GOES hard, you know? I've listened to the song on repeat a LOT, let's say that.
Elvis was the most versatile singer ever. He sang a lot of opera style songs, It's Now or Never, Surrender, Santa Lucia, Tonight Is So Right for Love, There's Always Me to name a few.
Elvis was a man with 50 voices. Its incredible how his voice change in a short span of 20 years. One of his finest works was Elvis from Memphis album 1969.. it's raw and powerful.
As a singer who has performed many of these songs with my band I can honestly say the final note of Surrender is to me by far the hardest to hit, especially with such strength!!
It's refreshing to see/hear an intelligent, knowledgeable analysis of an Elvis vocal. Elvis Is Back is an incredible album though I would hate to choose between it and From Elvis In Memphis. His mature vocal peak was, in my opinion, the Elvis That's The Way It Is album which has never had the wide critical acclaim it deserved.
I completely agree with this vision regarding Elvis's voice at his peak from 1958 TO 1966 (How Great Though Art recording session) and especially 1960,61,62,63. I met Her Today, His Hand in Mine, Milky White Way, In my Way, Wild in the Country, Lonely Man, Never Ending, Hard Headed Woman, Trouble (1958),..... recordings have changed my life. I don't forget the Jordanaires, musicians and the composers Don Robertson, Otis Blackwell, Leiber and Stoller, Ben Weisman,... The Hollywood period was a marvellous era as far as elvis'voice is concerned with these so moving ballads and upbeated songs and both albums, His Hand in Mine and How Great Thou Art. Elvis Presley has concentrated into one human being all those types of music I love and I intimately feel in the deepest levels of my soul.
Not everyone understands music at the detailed level some people do. But it is wonderful to hear what different people are wowed by with Elvis. He really does have something for everyone. 😊
Dear Matt, I hope you read this message, I want to draw your attention to the fiirst take of the song, Wild in the country, on the CD-Box Close Up- Masters From The '50s. Even Elvis was shocked by his outburst in the chorus, He sounded like an opera singer. It's a shame it was a little too much for Elvis to put it in the album take. goosebumps
To add to my comment. I was not a fan of hit tunes when young. I was more middle of the road and musical comedy. However, first thing I heard Elvis sing OLD SHEP, I was hooked! I adored every song and every movie he ever made. Had his photo in my room and disliked every girl I ever saw him with. I even began to listen to other rock and roll singers. If I'd lived in US, I'd have gone to his concerts. ❤❤❤
I’ve been listening to Elvis since 1956 and followed him closely during the 1960’s- 70’s. It’s merely my opinion that he was more mellow and controlled during the time-frame that I mentioned.
Elvis is and has been my favorite singer for 53-54 years, I’m 62. Yes, he can hit some very high notes, but his voice changed several times over the course of his career. I’m sure the weight, drugs, and smoking had something to do with it in the latter years.
ELVIS - THE MASTER OF THE UNIVERSE ♥ You are mention a nice song - Elvis always had in each of his "periodes" special songs and special voices. I for my self - don´t like HEAD-VOICES at all - AND ELVIS NEARLY NEVER DID HEAD-VOICE-SINGING! Another point, why I love Elvis ... ANY WAY YOU WANT ME - LOVE ME - CAN´T HELP FALLING IN LOVE WITH YOU - in the earlier years of course are near all the super songs - some "super-voice-songs" - JAILHOUSE ROCK - a never out of time song! IT´S NOW OR NEVER - SURRENDER - LIKE A BABY - the whole session is still a masterpiece of Elvis! 1968 live - unbeatable and special - 1969 American Studios - unbeatable and special - 1969 live - 1970 live - THE SAME! - 1970 sessions 1971 sessions - 1972 sessions - THE SAME! THANKYOUTHANKYOUVERMUCH TO THE UNIVERSE - WE HAVE ABOUT 700 SUPER-ELVIS-SONGS ... plus the "between-songs-movie-songs" .... from 1954 to 1976 studio work - you can´t realy name ONE BEST SONG - and then the super versions live!!!! IMPOSSIBLE DREAM - what human can even sing this song live so brilliant???? ELVIS PRESLEY - THE MASTER OF THE UNIVERSE! ♥
He mentioned during recording sessions of Tomorrow Never Comes in which he claimed was difficult for him because as it builds it get higher. There’s no room to catch a breath. He remark during the session he’d like to quit it, but finished it beautifully and turned out to be many tof his fan’s favorite song. If he found a song difficult,he’d try even harder and would joke in a self deprecating way. I don’t know if he realized many songs he sang were extremely difficult and he didn’t even know it. He really did use his voice like a musical instrument. ALBULM : Elvis in Nashville (2020) “Tomorrow Never Comes” Take 1 plus complete master take. Eventually placed in the TTWII ALBULM with instruments added. You can listen to all versions on U tube. Thanks for sharing with us. 😊❤❤🎸🕺🏻🎸🎧❤️
❤"E" My life's heart and breath. Music all kinds,'55 radio on, 9yrsold, "Elvis " the voice, the cry, motion!Magic explodes! "Its Now Or Never", wait, end, knew He'd excel, the"Back Album", variety of songs ! Thanks for the Love "E"❤
It could not have been as difficult for Elvis since he recorded it in less than 5 takes. And yes I have heard all the takes. The song that is mentioned by Elvis and by Ray Walker that Elvis had the most difficult time with was Surrender, where Ray had to coach Elvis to hit the high note (B8) the highest effective note and he hit in the end of the song and it was the only time he ever hit it that night and is considered one of the highest notes he ever hit that was effective. With all due respect your vocal ability can not be used as a barometer to compare Elvis ability. Just because you had a hard time doesn't mean he did. I have over 50 years in the studio and music industry. Feels so right was more challenging because of the phrasing. He hit higher note in the sun days than It Feels so right
There are many songs where Elvis's voice is unprecedented ie just pretend, american trilogy, if i can dream and many many more but if you listen to 'is it so strange' the way he sings the word sin is absolute genius
I narrow it down even further to 60-62. His voice changes a bit tonally around 63 and if you listen to all of his tracks you can tell. I like the 60-62 voice; it was more mature sounding than his 50s voice and as powerful as his later "opera" voice, but still retained some youthfulness and what he could do with it even he wouldn't exactly duplicate for the rest of his career.
Very insightful, @@MattStoneAsElvis. As a serious Elvis fan since 1956, I also agree with much of your take, though I would most definitely include '57, the year of his best rasp singing (have you noticed how labored that rasp sounded when he tried to revisit it during the TV special and the Nashville sessions?). Your mention, of G.I. Blues was also astute. I think it must be pointed out that there's a difference between a discussion about someone's "voice" and someone's "singing." Elvis' voice certainly expanded in his later years, but I believe he abandoned the greater range of tools he used in his earlier recordings. Most precisely was his replacing of the beautiful, soft falsetto passages of the 1960-62 era ballads with full chest voice instead. He later often seemed to over-sing parts with his newly-found range simply because he could. I prefer the sonic dynamics of his earlier singing, as I infer you do too.
I thought the hardest 😮song watching him sing was "If I could Dream" watching the veins on his neck and his face going red looked like he was struggling.😢
Good Job Matt, love the video. Elvis was the most gifted vocalist, he had many voices, and he had many styles as a singer. He was as natural a singer as you can get. He could sing comfortably in any part of his range, had perfect diction, and intonation. Some people and vocal coaches claim he was a baritone, some say he was a tenor, what was he then ?, he was both. This song is tenor range, the most difficult thing about this song, is singing many pitches on F"s and F sharps, the vocal break for a lyric tenor. For the record he is not singing a C5 here, he briefly sings a high B flat 4, the notes leading up to the Bflat are......... how can it be wrong.......G4 G4 Aflat4 Bflat4 !!!! Now on the Americal the beautiful he is singing a briefly held high C5 !!!!!
Interesting video, i think Elvis had matured a bit by 1960 , so he changed his voice to suit the songs , Im not a massive Elvis fan but I do like this period, soldier boy etc. Many thanks 👍
Elvis's voice was always great but he did get better if he if anybody thought he could get better he did he probably didn't I saw him twice last time I had front row seats and it was just unbelievable
Elvis definitely used more of his range early on, and developed that until the late 60's. After which, more and more emphasis was put to his lower register. Elvis' recorded range is from B1 to A5.. This is also John Lennon's exact recorded range. I found a site a few years ago which listed which songs top singers hit their high and low recorded notes. I tried to find it real quick without success, I'm not even really sure if Elvis was listed in that particular list. I was more looking to find the songs for Axl Rose's range. I couldn't believe his range was 6 octaves. I tend to believe screeches and whistles are not part of the actual vocal range, many people disagree. lol A couple of songs that I can think of where Elvis hits some high notes are "Blue Moon (Take 9M)" and "A Hundred Years From Now", the previous is kind of a rockabilly ballad on a old bluegrass standard, and the latter is country. A couple of his more popular songs where he runs near both ends of his range would be "It's Now or Never" and "Surrender; and a lot of his gospel and Christmas recordings. With over 700 titles from every major genre and standards from around the world, there's a lot to pick from.
I remember SUSPICION was one of my favourites and I won a record in a radio talent show of ONE NIGHT. I think it was the B side but I liked it much more. ❤❤💖
At 3:47 what song are you referencing? I slowed it down to 50% and still couldn't make out what song you were talking about? Just before you spoke of "Burning Love" but I thought you moved onto mentioning another song.
He was referencing Burning Love at 3 minutes 47, and the only other songs he mentions around then are "It feels so right" and "America the beautiful,."⚡
Hi Matt, I really enjoyed your interpretation of It Feels So right. I am no expert in voices, I can't sing a note! But I can see your point about how Elvis kinda strained his voice box to sing that song. Whenever I listen to the original Jailhouse Rock I wonder how the hell he didn't wreck his voice completely! When he sang bits of it on stage in the seventies, it sounded like he was really straining his voice to try and get it.
Agree pal 60-63 silk/Velvet and honey but later stuff hey the KING sounding different but best no contenders yea wonderful song yep love it along with Feel so bad 👍🏻
Elvis' voice was always great and changed or matured as he got older. I too think 1960 to 1964 he had a tone which made him a great ballad singer and in his finest period. But, it was always great. I noticed years ago when listening to the 1961 benefit Hawaii show when he sang That's All Right, he sang in the same way as the 1954 version but had the maturity of the 1960 period. He didn't sing that way in the 70's.
IT'S HARD FOR MOST ARTISTS TO EVEN COPY OF IS BECAUSE THEY DON'T FEEL HIS MUSIC I FOR ONE BEEN AN ELVIS FAN SINCE 1974 I WAS BORN IN 1971 I'VE BEEN ROCKING WITH ELVIS EVER SINCE I COULD UNDERSTAND WHAT MUSIC WAS I'VE ALWAYS SAID THAT HE IS ONE OF THE GREATEST IF NOT THE GREATEST ENTERTAINERS THAT WE'VE EVER HAD CUZ THERE ARE A LOT OUT THERE AND A LOT DONE HAPPEN SINCE HE HAS PASSED AWAY A LOT OF NEW ARTISTS HAVE CAME OUT IN THE '80S AND '90S BUT YOU'RE RIGHT NO ONE LIKE ELVIS NO ONE I FIND IT DIFFICULT AND LIKE I SAID I'M A ELVIS FAN AND AN IMPERSONATOR AND I MAY SAY FOR ME TO BE A BLACK GUY A LOT OF PEOPLE SAY THEY WOULD HATE TO LIVE ON THE DIFFERENCE OF OUR VOICE THEY SAY THAT'S TOO CLOSE FOR COMFORT MANY ASK HOW IN THE HELL AM I DOING THAT BECAUSE WHEN I TALK I DON'T SOUND LIKE THAT
I think he thought that largely because it was such new territory for him, he’d be so incredibly comfortable recording a song like it’s now or never in the late 70s. But he’d have a ton of trouble with It Feels So Right. I guess challenging is subjective to the period you’re judging
It seems like everyone does not like what Matt says matt is not putting him down he's just showing you how his voice is different when you sing and I know what h s talking about
Don't judge on high pitch alone Elvis's voice Matured like fine wine and only hot better listen to unchained Melody in June 77 with Elvis and the piano only. master piece.
No, it’s a beautiful passionate performance, but Elvis lost all the qualities of what he had been in his past. It’s really difficult for people to understand when they don’t technically know, but if you’re a musician/singer, then you have much better perspective and/or knowledge of what access lost at the end.
People were actually mad at you because you had a different opinion than they did? My personal opinion is his peak was 68 to 71. But I'm not upset that you have a different opinion. People we are Elvis fans let's not turn into delicate little snowflakes they can't handle disagreement. Absolutely love your content brother keep going. I hope one day to get to see you perform live.
i love his early to mid sixties voice. for some reason his 68 special voice had this growl to it which he seemed to lose after 69 then his 70s voice became deeper and he slurred his way through many songs. hound dog is one of the greatest rock n roll songs ever. his 56 recording of it could never be bettered but every time he sang it in concert he sounded like he just wanted to sing it as fast as he could to get it over with. he didnt even sing the full song, he just repeated the same verse over and over. he did pretty much the same with jailhouse rock. also he seemed to have the same set list for years which is a shame cos he had so many great songs in his back catalogue that he could have included. number one singles like devil in disguise and shes not you were just left on the shelf with many others.
Elvis knew his voice well, he always adjusted to its natural changes over the years, lets put it that way.
His voice is always beautiful
I love that Elvis voice changed. If not we would have 750 similar sounding songs. This way we have young voice, opera voice, power voice etc. I think this is one of the appeals of Elvis. My favorit song voice vice is " anyway way you want me".

Elvis's voice was such a uniquely beautiful instrument unmatched in its scope , unequalled in tone and quality, which is what makes his records sound so fresh and alive... cheers...
Elvis's voice became more disciplined and stronger the older he got. His last show he looks sick and overweight but his voice did not fail him.
True about the voice, that power rang out. Just beautiful and breathtaking.
There’s a difference between singing and belching. Elvis wasn’t half the singer in ‘77 than he was in 1970. 😊
Heart of Rome was also very challenging, but Elvis nailed it.
I d also put Love the life i lead next to Heart of Rome
Just my opinion. Elvis' voice in 68 and 69 had a raw power that I've never heard equalled and never will. You want to try and sing along to Elvis singing Love me Love the Life I Lead, his breath control is incredible. Hugely underrated song that deserves to be more widely known.
Yeah I agree! His ‘69 Vegas run was out of this world, comparing the songs he sang in both August 1969 and August 1970 is crazy because he sounds absolutely crazy. For example I Can’t Stop Loving You and Words.
He peaked from about 1968-70, but he was still very strong until right before his death.
Me too.
I’ve always thought Surrender was an incredible track. When he hits TOOO-night at the end, that would seriously give any opera singer a run for their money.
Agreed ❤
You’re obviously not to knowledgeable in the craft. 😊
His voice was spectacular for the Comeback Special.

Thank you for this info, it is nice to see others say what I have known since 1956!
Best performance for me was 68 Comeback “One Night”
Elvis was always great!!! Opinions….everybody has one.
finally !!! someone has noticed his incredible voice from 1960 to 1964 , I’ve been saying it for awhile now when he came back from the army in 1960 his voice took on a more mature and slightly operatic tone that’s how he was able to sing It’s now or never and Surrender in those highs and lows and end both in that high opera note at the end
All the songs from that 4 year period were incredibly sung his voice at that time took on a beautiful tone and I agree with what you say about It Feels So Right I feel out of breath every time I hear him sing it is one of several blues numbers from the He’s Back Album from 1960
Agree! By 65 the movies were draining his spirit and you could hear the difference.
Definitely agree that his peak was between 1960-1964, some of his most amazing vocals came from that era
His masterpiece song, in my opinion, is a ballad called Tomorrow Never Comes. Play that and tell me what you think.
This man is not a result of mere genetics. God did this. There is not a better male singer period. Also, his Gospel I Believe.
No one can match up with Elvis.
That's my favorite too. His voice was starting to mature but he still had the rock n roll scream
@@ssingh9149 - one singer, Jackie Wilson's range was better but Jackie was one of Elvis' favorite singer
@@RaymondHarrigan Elvis could sing anything. And did.
If you listen to his recording of the gospel song "He touched me", he reaches very high notes. I watched one of Elvis' very last performances with my quite critical dad, and he was very impressed by his performance. That says a lot.
Always love getting to hear a vocalist who knows what’s what talk shop about Elvis in the studio! Great vid Matt!! 😊
I listen to your podcast all the time! Keep up the the amazing episodes man!
I'd pretty much agree Matt ..... for sheer quality, Elvis' voice was at its peak 1960 - 64
I how great though Art in 1972 was his highest followed by Danny boy. It takes a lot of control to hit those high notes that softly
This is why I always championed the Elvis Is Back! album as his best and masterpiece. It’s untouchable. Also, extremely unique for the time. You can’t find any other musician that had a similar sound at that time.
Totally agree
I’ve always enjoyed Elvis, and of all the songs recorded as a collective this album is the best.
@jackiron47It85 It's my favorite also. Especially when you add in the singles that were recorded at the same time, but didn't make it on to the album. I refer to:
Are you lonesome tonight
It's now or never
Stuck on you
Fame and Fortune
I think Elvis sounded best from 57 to 64, but sounded good until he died.
I think the gospels, and many of the ballads and the blues (wish he’d done more blues), appeal to me more than some of his rock and roll
tunes because they seem to add a dimension to Elvis’s voice.
Yeah just like Take My Hand Precious Lord or stand by me. Brilliant
1969 & 1970 was Elvis at his peak both vocally & physically.
early 60s,kid Galahad
The American Sound Studios era was his peak, IMO. Suspicious Minds, Kentucky Rain, Always On My Mind, etc.
Elvis had the best "tone" ever!
I love your informative videos It is so cool to hear the differences in voice styles. Thanks, Matt for all the hard work you do for your fans.
Hurt a great song I prefer his early stuff when Elvis was Elvis and I don’t mean any disrespect there, the slick hair those shirts that would pass even today and his versatility Elvis 54 to 63
Not a hope in hell his voice was better in the late 70s
I agree here. The Elvis of the early 60s could hit any note and turn any phrase with seeming ease. “Elvis is Back” is an absolute masterpiece.
@@coollady2179
Oh Yeah, my favorite albums he ever made are the ones in Memphis
@@coollady2179Totally agree, first time I heard it I was in total awe... everything was right..his looks, the backing and my god that voice..a true classic...👍👍👍👍
Nessuno, nessuno, nessuno può fare con la VOCE quello che ha fatto Elvis!! Era STRAORDINARIO.
ARTISTA E UOMO MERAVIGLIOSO ❤
My peak of being an Elvis fan was when I was in middle school and high school. I have no addition to the conversation as to when Elvis' voice was at its peak. However, I saw the video title and guessed that the song to be featured was "It Feels So Right", mainly because, in my mind, that song just GOES hard, you know? I've listened to the song on repeat a LOT, let's say that.
Spot on!
THE G.O.A.T.❤💯👍🎸🥁🎺🎵🎶🎼🎤🕊⚘️
It's a shame it was a little too much for Elvis to put it in the album take. goosebumps
Elvis himself said one time that he finally learned how to sang in 73
You are absolutely right ❤
Wow so young to be a fan.......I am impressed 🤩
To add to my comment. I was not a fan of hit tunes when young. I was more middle of the road and musical comedy. However, first thing I heard Elvis sing OLD SHEP, I was hooked! I adored every song and every movie he ever made. Had his photo in my room and disliked every girl I ever saw him with. I even began to listen to other rock and roll singers. If I'd lived in US, I'd have gone to his concerts. ❤❤❤
Elvis in 77 he sings and sounds like a opera singer
I agree with you completely.
Elvis is back is one of the best albums ever, and voice was joint top for me, with 67 to 74 as the other period
Elvis’ singing voice was best all-around from 1960-1966.
No it was not. His voice grew much fuller and stronger by the late 1960s into very early 1970.
He was great from start to finish..HE WAS PERFECT INSIDE AND OUT...
I’ve been listening to Elvis since 1956 and followed him closely during the 1960’s- 70’s.
It’s merely my opinion that he was more mellow and controlled during the time-frame that I mentioned.
74-77 was my favourite
He hit higher note in the sun days than It Feels so right
The end of Mystery Train comes to mind.
@@pulmon66 That's a falsetto note.. Not coming from the diaphragm, Its more tuning than strength with falsetto
There are many songs where Elvis's voice is unprecedented ie just pretend, american trilogy, if i can dream and many many more but if you listen to 'is it so strange' the way he sings the word sin is absolute genius
It’s like a totally different singer on Is It So strange, his range was incredible
It was one of his male gospel singers that sang that high note in the song, Burning Love! Check out the story!
I would've thought Surrender was the hardest.
Its up there, I think this song requires more stamina thou
When kids like him talk listen. I agree 100%.
اعظم فنان على مر العصور لم ولن يتكرر الملك بدون منازع
I narrow it down even further to 60-62. His voice changes a bit tonally around 63 and if you listen to all of his tracks you can tell. I like the 60-62 voice; it was more mature sounding than his 50s voice and as powerful as his later "opera" voice, but still retained some youthfulness and what he could do with it even he wouldn't exactly duplicate for the rest of his career.
@@kylestephens4133 I can agree with this
Very insightful, @@MattStoneAsElvis.
Yes, it is very difficult to sing, but have you tried " I'll hold you in my heart" big notes in that song.
I’ll hold you in my heart is a banger, incredible song
feel so right true great song from Elvis
Great video!!
Interesting video, i think Elvis had matured a bit by 1960 , so he changed his voice to suit the songs ,
Im not a massive Elvis fan but I do like this period, soldier boy etc.
Many thanks 👍
Early 60's Elvis was in his best !! My opinion.
Elvis's voice was always great but he did get better if he if anybody thought he could get better he did he probably didn't I saw him twice last time I had front row seats and it was just unbelievable
Hi Matt stone you sang amazing when you were at the Coleman on July 19 my name is Miranda you took a picture with me
Thank you
I love most of the years. But my favorite no doubt is the early 60's.
Podrías mencionar la dificultad de la canción "surrender" de interpretar con la misma claridad, sentimiento y brillo.
FINALLY MY FAVORITE SONG IS GETTING RECOGNIZED
Roy Orbisoncould outsing Elvis without even trying !
Elvis would likely agree!
Better or both great in their own way??
I remember SUSPICION was one of my favourites and I won a record in a radio talent show of ONE NIGHT. I think it was the B side but I liked it much more. ❤❤💖
I have to agree and understand your points
At 3:47 what song are you referencing? I slowed it down to 50% and still couldn't make out what song you were talking about? Just before you spoke of "Burning Love" but I thought you moved onto mentioning another song.
He was referencing Burning Love at 3 minutes 47, and the only other songs he mentions around then are "It feels so right" and "America the beautiful,."⚡
he said burning love
@user-gt7fe5eh9d Unsure about that.
IT'S HARD FOR MOST ARTISTS TO EVEN COPY OF IS BECAUSE THEY DON'T FEEL HIS MUSIC I FOR ONE BEEN AN ELVIS FAN SINCE 1974 I WAS BORN IN 1971 I'VE BEEN ROCKING WITH ELVIS EVER SINCE I COULD UNDERSTAND WHAT MUSIC WAS I'VE ALWAYS SAID THAT HE IS ONE OF THE GREATEST IF NOT THE GREATEST ENTERTAINERS THAT WE'VE EVER HAD CUZ THERE ARE A LOT OUT THERE AND A LOT DONE HAPPEN SINCE HE HAS PASSED AWAY A LOT OF NEW ARTISTS HAVE CAME OUT IN THE '80S AND '90S BUT YOU'RE RIGHT NO ONE LIKE ELVIS NO ONE I FIND IT DIFFICULT AND LIKE I SAID I'M A ELVIS FAN AND AN IMPERSONATOR AND I MAY SAY FOR ME TO BE A BLACK GUY A LOT OF PEOPLE SAY THEY WOULD HATE TO LIVE ON THE DIFFERENCE OF OUR VOICE THEY SAY THAT'S TOO CLOSE FOR COMFORT MANY ASK HOW IN THE HELL AM I DOING THAT BECAUSE WHEN I TALK I DON'T SOUND LIKE THAT
According to Elvis himself , It's now or never was his most challenging recording .
I think he thought that largely because it was such new territory for him, he’d be so incredibly comfortable recording a song like it’s now or never in the late 70s. But he’d have a ton of trouble with It Feels So Right. I guess challenging is subjective to the period you’re judging
@Bobcampbell From '60-64 , he was 25 to 29 yrs!
It seems like everyone does not like what Matt says matt is not putting him down he's just showing you how his voice is different when you sing and I know what h s talking about
unchained, melody,1977 live.
I often wonder where you get your information? Impressive or impressionable.
How about Blue Moon Elvis performed in 56 its extremly high wat u think, have a listen
High and eery and wonderful!
What year did he do It's now of never ?
rags,to riches.
