I collected coins with my grandfather for years as a kid. I went pretty passive for many years after college (would pull wheaties and old nickels when I came across them, but that is about it). I inherited a bunch of coins from my grandfather when he died, including a bunch of foreign coins and currency. I've been going through all of that in the last few months, putting together books of everything I have, which has gotten me back into hobby big time. I've started to coin roll hunt, mostly with half dollars, but will need to start pennies and nickels to complete my books. I bought one big collection (overpaid for it, but that is another story), and it had a bunch of foreign coins as well. I enjoy the history of it and definitely enjoy the TH-cam coin community, like yourself.
Haha thanks that was a crazy find! I doubt anything will ever beat it on the channel. There was a 1 Kopek from 1925 Russia that was probably more valuable but nowhere near as cool. The 1730 half penny was also really authentic feeling and I'll definitely hang onto it!
# 6:13 Czarist Russian coin: 3 Kopecks. #9:27 "Three crowns" = Sweden. #9:52 I recently acquired a coin like that (different date) @ the Garfield Heights Coin Club. Yeah, it surprised me too. @ Centavos in copper-nickel.😃 #10:07 "20 (something)" Arabian coin (Look up "Arabian/Arabic Numbers" on the net0. #10:15 That's a porpuse, NOT a whale! The other side is a ship's rudder (Italian coin). #10:33 Hey!!! That's the Hong Kong 5 cent piece I lost over there when I was in the Navy on Liberty back in 1966!😁 (You can keep it though.) # 11:13 Yugoslavian 10 PARA (Cyrillic writing).
If you think that one is weird, last weekend I went to the Raleigh Coin Show, and they had a display that had a 6 1/4 cent currency note issued by North Carolina. Who would ever even need that? different times back then, I guess.
That's pretty wild - I wonder what it was used for. Maybe being a quarter of a quarter? That's the only thing I can think of. I know there were 0.001 coins/tokens made for paying fractions of taxes when money was tight during the depression era.
The Federal Republik of Germany was founded in 1949, the right to issue coins was used by the goverment from 1950 onwards. Before 1950 the Central Bank for the economic area of the tree western alies (Bank deutscher Länder - Bank for the German States) issued in 1948 coins to 1 Pfennig and in 1949 in the nomination 1, 5, 10 and 50 Pfennig. The Bank deutscher Länder was the predecessor of the current German Central Bank, the Deutsche Bundesbank.
Not really at the moment, but I guarantee that once I finish the series I'll make many of the lots available or create some of my own. Is there a coin you're interested in?
Too bad I can't get these where I live. The customs people steal stuff most of the time, and even if I do have a chance to get them, they will ask me to pay an exorbitant amount of money to get these, on top of what I already paid...
Hey Wisco - I use numista as well for any that I don't look up (for example, I got my hands on an old collection and have been trying from now on to identify Asian / unknown ones and I used numista to help).
You know I'm a fan of your foreign hunts! Awesome silver find, and a great selection of oldies this time.
I appreciate the compliment. Was pumped about the variety... do you personally collect coins? And if so, how?

The Dominican Republic one is a 6 1/2 centavos. That is such a weird denomination

Whoa - that's pretty crazy. I've seen 3 and 15 as some other pretty neat denominations from world coins!
That's pretty wild - I wonder what it was used for. Maybe being a quarter of a quarter? That's the only thing I can think of. I know there were 0.001 coins/tokens made for paying fractions of taxes when money was tight during the depression era.
