Speech impediments need to be corrected before adulthood. Most of them originate from mental factors, not physical ones, the vast majority of them can be fixed. And allowing the child to believe their speech impediment is normal is the worst thing you can do. Because it doesn't matter how open minded you are, most people hear a speech impediment and immediately jump to the conclusion that the person is mentally handicapped. You're setting the person up for a lifetime of judgement, ridicule, or patronizing treatment just cause you want to appear understanding. Don't be pretentious enough that you correct the person who's actually trying to make the kid's life better.

This doesn’t go for people who can’t pronounce the letter R tho, right? 😅

@@alexandersvibing7777 No I don't think so, I had trouble with pronouncing words with the letter R in them, so they put me into a speech therapy type of class. Keep in mind I wasn't just learning how to speak, my brain literally forgot how to pronounce the letter. Took me 4 years to get out, never once did I think it was not normal. I just realized I want to be able to talk and people to understand what I'm saying. Yes I still have trouble pronouncing some words but I can still say them eventually. Just keep practicing and eventually it'll be all good. Never once was I treated differently because of my struggle.

Some people are just lazy talkers or speak too quickly. It's kind of ridiculous that some of these habits are considered "disorders".

That’s not true… speech disorders aren’t from talking fast. It’s when you can’t pronounce certain letters or have trouble speaking. (As someone who has one) Please do more research then just assuming it’s from talking to fast

I have stammer and it effects the way I talk and makes me do random movements like eye twitching or tapping my fingers or stomping and also because I was born with it some parts of my brain are different and yeah some people are lazy talkers I know that but some people also might have speech disorders and not just “lazy talkers”
