I was a US Army Military Police Investigator 95BV5 from 86-91 Completely under cover (long hair and beard lived off post). I was assigned to a Drug Suppression Team within USACIDC in Germany and the US. I was recruited right out of the 21st replacement unit and spent all 5 years on active buying drugs and other black market items. Even spent thousands in government money (0015 funds) buying drinks in every bar around every post I was stationed. It’s a job that no one even knew existed.

I served in the 80s. Military Police MOS was 95 series. 95B was MP. 95D was CID Special Agent. I was a 95B with an ASI (additional skill identifier) of V5 which only meant I went to Military Police Investigation School. (I did it for rations not available money and a clothing allowance). I was never a CID Agent but my team Chiefs were. I got out after Desert Storm and became a police officer in South Florida where I worked mostly Narcotics and gangs.

MP 1971 to 1984 and had to say that to a Full Bird Colonel once at Fort Myer Virginia because he thought an Old Buck Sergeant MP couldn't stop him for running a stop sign. I proved him wrong when I gave him a ticket. My Captain backed me up even after the Colonel called him and chewed his Ass. We had over 20 Generals that live at Fort Myer from 1 Star through the 4 Star Chairman of the Joint Chiefs so a Bird Colonel was a dime a dozen.

Army MP (31E and 31B) for 12 years. Just know being an MP means working longer hours for the same pay as other MOS's who work normal schedules (in garrison). When not deployed or in the field, I think we all have an expectation that we can have a somewhat normal/balanced life. MP's don't really get that and you have way more responsibilities than just law enforcement that take up large portions of your days (in garrison). Also, unless you get a big post, you may not get a "true" law enforcement experience and instead feel more like a glorified security guard (especially when you get put on gate guard, which is mind numbingly boring). It's not all bad and over my 12 I had a couple great duty stations, and as you gain rank new jobs unrelated to law enforcement open up. However, overall I think if I could do it again, I would have picked a different MOS for a better work/life balance.

    • @CraftBeer4Life

@@NateDogg3693 I had a good ASVAB score, so with that in mind I would have probably selected something in the Intelligence sphere. I think the Army has over 200 MOS's so try to pick something that has transferable skills that can be applied in a civilian occupations.

    • @CraftBeer4Life
      @CraftBeer4Life 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@WillCountyKid depends on the department. We hear a lot while in the Army how some departments don't like the "bad habits" MP's have, but I've also heard the opposite. I'm not a civilian cop, so idk for sure. If you have the ASVAB score, I would go for something else that requires critical thinking (i.e., military intelligence). If you really want to be an MP, just be prepared to work way more hours than every other MOS while in Garrison (i.e., not deployed). I had some good times too though.

My grandfather is 89 and served in the British army from 1952-54
He was born just south of a place called alderley edge cheshire 🇬🇧 ( where all the rich football players from man city and man united live now ) the villiage was called siddington. Back in 1942 he was 8 years old and remembers the American police patrolling his villiage and they were thousands of them based in alderley edge in big houses and manors. The troops were from 503rd military police battalion ( airbourne )
His uncle fred used to make the policeman tea 🍵 and toast every morning. Dont forget we had food rationing then so food was little in supply.
However the troops in return would give the kids hubba bubba and candy from the states in big tins etc. He said they were good with the kids. They used to have a big motorbike u.s. army one and would take turns riding it laughing at each other as they nearly crashed into small houses in the village. They would see the troops ecercises in the nearby fields in preparation for D day.
My grandfather hasnt got long left had a good life and some amazing stories. I just wanted to say thanks to the u.s. army or 503rd military police battalion in particular for the help and support we as a nation received from you during world war 2.

Those of us who went from Vietnam (me) to Somalia made the MP Corps a Strong Arm of the Combat Arms. Those soldiers who I lead in Germany and Ft Campbell then back in Germany where the Senior NCOs during Iraq and Afghanistan. They instilled that Combat Spirit into our Current MPs. Why on earth are they working 12+ hour days to cover an 8-hour shift?!?! I get all the "soldier stuff" is necessary but organized PT four hours before the shift starts?
And then he didn't mention it, but you're not done until you've turned in your weapons and completed your paperwork, and it's been accepted by the desk sergeant.
Depending on the shift and what happened, this can mean a couple additional hours for the paperwork - AFTER the shift is over
It's why I'm wondering about the four hours before going on duty...
That's a LOOONG duty day, especially if you've got to do it four, five, or even six days a week...

@@Anthony-uu2tk Of course - I'm not saying they did PT for four hours, I'm just surprised they are holding organized PT for shift workers - and holding it four hours BEFORE they go on shift means a much longer work day than seems necessary.
I know the MP Corps is uber-disciplined and this kind of rhing is probably pretty typical for the folks on patrol. But consider: does the night shift radiological tech at Womack have organized PT before work? Or the food service folks that supervise the DFAC?
I'm most familiar with a "catch and release" over at the gym. With a sign-in roster if we want proof that everyone is doing PT. Especially if PT scores are good...
I'm just saying: it's a really looong week if you've got to work 12s for 4 or 5 or even 6 days, and I've never seen an MP unit with enough personal that they aren't working at least four or five days straight.

When you sign in you can choose a mos, but only one until your contract is up aka 4years . After that you can choose another mos but it can be messy. Some happier/some not so happy. Choose wisely, maybe one type of mos go four years and then go reserve with having a civilian job so you can do military and civilian. Think hard and do research because this will affect you.

Oh, I see. It's selective free speech. So you disable comments that have to do with WOKE BS, but talking about jobs we can comment on. OK, here's a thought... how bout just talking about leadership, self improvement, courage, team work, and selfless service rather than talking about ethnic celebration, two moms, individualism, and dumb cartoon ads? You think your recruitment problems might stem from promoting the previous reasons? Just saying.
