I remember Yuki and the Dishwasher having cameo appearances as findable Friends, and that Charlie Murder (by The Dishwasher: Vampire Smile devs) has Dust's hat you can find as an equippable item. There's a 2D hack-and-slash from about a month ago that reminds me a bit of Dust in terms of art style/direction, called Magenta Horizon. Can very much recommend looking into it. The whole act 1 of 3 is the demo.

9:15 So one of the things you may have missed, the mana *does* serve another purpose. One of the upgrades in the game empowers your attacks based on how many levels of the mana you have. At two levels it increases the attack range, and at three the attack power. You might have already known this, at least instinctively, and it doesn't invalidate how you feel about it (yeah there could have been more), but it's still important to know.

2:01 oh hey, I've played... only one of the games on that list. And somehow, that game is fucking Dust: an Elysian Tale. (I still have memories of juggling enemies in the final stage of the game so high that I reached the ceiling. Which is impressive, considering that, diagetically, there *was* no ceiling.) Edit: 3:28 . Again. I juggled robots to the ceiling while twirling around with my sword.
You're right, i haven't played it. I've barely played any metroidvania in my life. Though i have been very fascinated with Cookie Cutter. That's a solid one with striking art style. Big passion project of the lead dev and he takes making it very seriously. There's a lot more he wants to add in the future. New characters, environments, bosses, weapons, story beats etc. until the full story is told. Definitely recommend it.

Im so fucking happy that the dev shouted out Vernal Edge. I totally understand why it didnt wow people, its shorter than expected and its progression isnt what people expect from metroidvania. BUT ITS COMBAT IS GOATED. Its basically 2D KH2. Its all about juggling and hitting finishers, and you heal by hitting the enemies with your special attacks. I need more of it. It has a small amount of enemies but it uses them so effectively. PLAY THIS GAME PLS.
