Great reaction.This was an early performance, their very first performance was in November 2010 at the first Sakura Gakuin show ... with this song of course as it was the first song they recorded (that was at the end of October 2010). The second song they played live was 'Ijime, Dame, Zettai' (Bullying, No More, For Ever), but the second song they actually recorded and filmed a music video for was 'Iine' (that is iine pronounced ee-neh, not Line). Just to try and help with who is who: 2010 to October 2017 - Su, Yui and Moa December 2017 through 2018 - Su and Moa 2019 to March/April 2020 - Su and Moa + any one of the Avengers Riho, Kano and Momoko who danced but did not sing. 2020 to 1st April 2023 - Su and Mo + Momoko as the last remaining Avenger. 2nd April 2023 to predent - Su, Moa and Momoko (now an official member and singing as well).
If you ever do BM Death again, you have to take the "Legend 1997 Apocalypse" version, legendary performance ! Even if lives are the real deal with BM, some old MV are real fun, "Iine" is an absolute banger !
BabyMetal was formed around Su-Metal, cuz she can just blast thru the heavy music like candy. Her Mom said she was a very loud little child. Too bad they cut it short, do a reaction to the official music video.
You're right, that is Yui on the left. Yui was with the group until the Big Fox Festival in late 2017 when she stopped performing due to illness, but she didn't officially withdraw from Babymetal until October 2018. Any videos from 2017 or earlier will have Yui in them, while videos after that will have one (or more) of the various support dancers they used during 2018-20, or just Momoko from 2021 onwards. At the time of this performance on 28/8/2011 Su was 13, and Yui and Moa were 12. It's funny that you say that there really were "Babymetal" at this time, because they kind of were babies, but that was never the origin of the name. Kobametal has said that the name refers to the birth of a new kind of metal music in "kawaii metal" and Babymetal is the newborn form of this new genre. Thank you for your reaction. At first, they didn't have a budget for their activities, so stage costumes were borrowed from the members' families and staff. Rather than spending money to sell it, it started like this. I believe it was until around 2017, but the profile picture on their homepage was of them lying down from Doki Doki Morning, and their faces were not visible for a long time.
Your big sister instinct is a common reaction. Babymetal started as a sub unit of a larger idol group called Sakura Gakuin (Cherry Blossom Academy). They used the word "Fukei" to refer to their fanbase. It roughly translates to guardian, caregiver, parent, or elder sibling. The entire SG organization and their fans were very protective and supportive of the future "super ladies" in their care. If you truly want to see where Babymetal came from, it starts with young Suzuka Nakamoto in a group called Karen Girls, in a music video called "Over the Future." Su and her big sister type role model from Karen Girls, Ayami Muto, left the group and became founding members of Sakura Gakuin. Yui and Moa loved Karen Girls, Yui particularly, and they jumped at the chance to join the same idol group that Su and Ayami were in. One of the fist videos they did together was a Sakura Gakuin song called "Friends." They take a field trip to a petting zoo and then have to read personal letters they wrote about eachother during a class assignment. It's really sweet. Anyway, Sakura Gakuin had several sub units in their school themed idol group. The cooking club (Mini Patisserie), the school newspaper club (Scoopers), and the cheerleading club (Twinkle Stars) are examples. The heavy music club (Babymetal) put the three girls together. The rest is metal history.

As a metal head, when I discovered the girls, I felt like an older sibling watching their younger siblings get into something I love and turning it into their own special thing and I just feel nothing but pride every time I see them on stage. This is the time when Babymetal were actually idols and took part in such events. Today, Babymetal are idols only technically. They have long left this past behind, and have outgrown not only idols, but also many Western performers.

I felt the similar. Babymetal hits HARD, due to a lot of different factors, an incredibly well put art performance. I am at peace with with, I just loved it so much. Instant favorite.

Don't be afraid to check out the music videos. While the Live performances are top notch, the MV's show a different side to BabyMetal. Karate, Headbanger and Megitsune MV's are amazing.
The face and reaction of the newly addicted, don't worry they hit everyone like that, and the shock/omg look how young they were is also a normal reaction (there's a few 'Making of Doki Doki Morning' videos on TH-cam which really show this). In this video Yui is the one with the bunches/pig tails while Moa has a pony tail. There's an official MV for this which you may want to check at some point but as you say maybe wait a while before reacting to a song you've already done. Onward: next stop, if you're staying chronological, should be either Headbanger Legend of 1997 Apocalypse or Road Of Resistance live in Japan Official for live or the Megitsune and Gimme Chocolate, the latter is live, official videos. This is an interesting journey to follow. :-) If you want to continue chronologically, the next release was a shared single with a band called "Kiba of Akiba", where each band played one song of the other band. Personally, I find the song "Kimi to Anime ga mitai" very skippable, but I know that other fans disagree. The next "real" BABYMETAL release was the song "Headbanger", and it's a fan favourite. There is an official music video, but this is a song that really gains a lot from being performed live. The version from the "Legend 1997" show is great, but others are good, too.
For Kawaii overload look for Onedari Daisakusen at Legend 1997 (1997 refering to Su's birth year, the show is from her 16th birthday in 2013), the channel For the Fox God as a version with subtitles. This is a song performed by only Moa and Yui as Black Babymetal. Moa performed it solo at Budokan 2021, that one can be found on the same channel.
We have seen the origins of BABYMETAL. At that time, there were no music videos and they were only performed on stage. After that, music videos were made and released, and they started to become a hot topic around the world. From this point on, they changed to a more metal sound and a more globally conscious sound. I recommend watching them over the years. I want you to see their diverse musicality and their growth. "DOKI DOKI MORNING" is the soundtrack of a popular 2021 Taiwanese movie "Till We Meet Again. (月老)". The audience loved the song so they Googled it. Then the audience discovered that the original singers were three cute little girls and surprisingly they were members of a metal band rather than an idol group. Thanks for your great reaction.
Getting BM mirch isn't so easy it sells out very quickly and for most you need to register with the fan club, I've pre-ordered the new DVD out in July. It is a very enjoyable reaction to watch! This video is from TOKYO IDOL FESTIVAL 2011. TOKYO IDOL FESTIVAL started in 2010 and 45 idol groups have participated. In 2023, there will be 233 groups (1510 members) In 2011, BABYMETAL was a sub-unit of an idol group called Sakura Gakuin, so they performed at TOKYO IDOL FESTIVAL, but now they perform at rock festivals and metal festivals around the world. This is a version of "Doki Doki Morning" I don't see people reacting to often - kudos to you!!! The official MV is just as good (if not better). An interesting note: Su--metal has twin tails in this performance whereas in subsequent performances, she dons a single pony-tail. Anyway . . . . You’ve opened a can of worms! BABYMETAL has an extensive history (and lore) which I won’t get into but a quick synopsis: they’ve been around since 2010, and started when their lead singer - known as Su-metal (Suzuka Nakamoto) - was about twelve, and the two "cheerleaders" (officially "scream and dance" (backing vocals)) - Moametal (Moa Kikuchi) and Yuimetal (Yui Mizuno) - were both around eleven. Unfortunately, Yui left the group in 2018 because of health concerns, and early in 2023 Momoko Okazaki (Momometal) was named a member of the group. They do not play instruments but are backed by the Kami Band - session musicians who are among the best that Japan (and the U.S.) has to offer. BABYMETAL started a brand new genre of music ("kawaii metal" - cute metal), and they cannot be pigeon-holed - they are almost always thinking and moving outside box; they made listening to metal FUN! They have, to date, four studio albums, and have been on a number of world tours. This is probably the earliest of Babymetal you will find but Su had a career before Babymetal. Many of us are serious Su stans and you have not even seen one of her real vocal performances yet. None of us will object to you doing pretty much any Babymetal. It is actually fun to see the old versions and then the new performances.
I would not mind you reacting to other version of the songs... they are diffrent.. i highly recommend: babymetal death legend S 1997 live. It will blow your mind.
From an interview (about the very first time performing DDM): When we performed “Doki Doki ☆ Morning” prior to our first solo show, there was a buzz in the audience when we collapsed during the interlude. They were all worried that we’d actually fallen by accident! That was quite an unexpected response, since it wasn’t our intention. Moreover, normally I would have felt embarrassed about the situation, but at the time, I found myself smirking inside about their confusion. That may have been the moment that SU-METAL was born within me.

I'd also recommend checking out the official music video as that is absolutely full of kawaiiness as well 🙂 As for this performance, I'm not sure, but this may be a backing track, and I don't think it's the full song, which doesn't detract from their cuteness of course. But you'll have plenty of other truly great performances to explore, and we'll get you digging into their Sakura Gakuin catalog as well.

Isn't there a video from the first Sakura Gakuin concert though? That would be the first performance as Babymetal right or were they just the Heavy Music Club at that time?

Every sub-unit had a club description. You're right about there being an earlier BABYMETAL performance of this song. They appeared at the Sakura Gakuin Festival☆2010 at Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse on November 28th, 2010. This Tokyo Idol Festival footage is about nine months later.
Not babies but 12 and 10, 10. Su was the starting point, he was looking for a voice and he had the look to see and hear her when she was singing forvthe last time she sang for thebopening of an Anime. And he knew, this might work. And aftervhe had her under contract and saw that those cuties might work with her. But he had onevproblem, they were afraid of metal, so he first had to show them metal. So he went with them to metal concerts to explain to them what he wanted from them. They checked withvtheirvagency and they were informed that he was legit but they also warned them that he had no money for his ideas and when he wanted to make their first video shoot with them they learnedvhowbdire thevsituation was. They had to lend clothes from their friends to get a suiting uniforms for the shoot but at the same time they learned how such a shooting worked. It was like a big adventure for them.
The early MVs are worth seeing - The MV for DDM is a classic! Don't believe the hype that live BABYMETAL is better - it's not always true. For iine and Megitsune, the MVs are essential to see and I'd also suggest the same is true for Headbanger and IDZ. I do like the idea of visiting each track sequentially though - I'm sure you'll have a lot of viewers if you take that route. BABYMETAL are part of a wider alternative idol scene in Japan, idol groups that don't follow the rules of traditional idol and mix J-pop with other types of music such as metal, punk and techno. It'll take you a while to get through BABYMETAL's material, but there's a whole host of interesting groups to discover in the future. Believe it or not there are earlier SU-METAL tracks out there - she was part of Karen Girl's before BABYMETAL and BABYMETAL themselves were a sub-unit of the bigger idol group Sakura Gakuin.

BabyMetal was formed around Su-Metal, cuz she can just blast thru the heavy music like candy. Her Mom said she was a very loud little child. Too bad they cut it short, do a reaction to the official music video.
You're right, that is Yui on the left. Yui was with the group until the Big Fox Festival in late 2017 when she stopped performing due to illness, but she didn't officially withdraw from Babymetal until October 2018. Any videos from 2017 or earlier will have Yui in them, while videos after that will have one (or more) of the various support dancers they used during 2018-20, or just Momoko from 2021 onwards.
At the time of this performance on 28/8/2011 Su was 13, and Yui and Moa were 12. It's funny that you say that there really were "Babymetal" at this time, because they kind of were babies, but that was never the origin of the name. Kobametal has said that the name refers to the birth of a new kind of metal music in "kawaii metal" and Babymetal is the newborn form of this new genre.

Rather than spending money to sell it, it started like this.
I believe it was until around 2017, but the profile picture on their homepage was of them lying down from Doki Doki Morning, and their faces were not visible for a long time.

Your big sister instinct is a common reaction. Babymetal started as a sub unit of a larger idol group called Sakura Gakuin (Cherry Blossom Academy). They used the word "Fukei" to refer to their fanbase. It roughly translates to guardian, caregiver, parent, or elder sibling. The entire SG organization and their fans were very protective and supportive of the future "super ladies" in their care.
If you truly want to see where Babymetal came from, it starts with young Suzuka Nakamoto in a group called Karen Girls, in a music video called "Over the Future." Su and her big sister type role model from Karen Girls, Ayami Muto, left the group and became founding members of Sakura Gakuin. Yui and Moa loved Karen Girls, Yui particularly, and they jumped at the chance to join the same idol group that Su and Ayami were in. One of the fist videos they did together was a Sakura Gakuin song called "Friends." They take a field trip to a petting zoo and then have to read personal letters they wrote about eachother during a class assignment. It's really sweet.
Anyway, Sakura Gakuin had several sub units in their school themed idol group. The cooking club (Mini Patisserie), the school newspaper club (Scoopers), and the cheerleading club (Twinkle Stars) are examples. The heavy music club (Babymetal) put the three girls together. The rest is metal history.

The original trio was Suzuka Nakamoto (lead singer) Moa Kikuchi and Yui Mizuno (backing vocals and choreography). Yui left Babymetal in 2018 due to health issues.
Today it is Suzuka, Moa and new member Momoko Okazaki.

This is an interesting journey to follow. :-) If you want to continue chronologically, the next release was a shared single with a band called "Kiba of Akiba", where each band played one song of the other band. Personally, I find the song "Kimi to Anime ga mitai" very skippable, but I know that other fans disagree. The next "real" BABYMETAL release was the song "Headbanger", and it's a fan favourite. There is an official music video, but this is a song that really gains a lot from being performed live. The version from the "Legend 1997" show is great, but others are good, too.
For Kawaii overload look for Onedari Daisakusen at Legend 1997 (1997 refering to Su's birth year, the show is from her 16th birthday in 2013), the channel For the Fox God as a version with subtitles.
This is a song performed by only Moa and Yui as Black Babymetal.
Moa performed it solo at Budokan 2021, that one can be found on the same channel.
We have seen the origins of BABYMETAL. At that time, there were no music videos and they were only performed on stage. After that, music videos were made and released, and they started to become a hot topic around the world. From this point on, they changed to a more metal sound and a more globally conscious sound. Haha yea! I haven’t seen this one in a while. Cuteness overload, I died, again 😂🤩. This was their 1st song ever and was eventually “aged out” of their live rotation, but it’s back by popular demand. They just performed it live in March for Momoko’s 21st Bday concert (Legend MM).

"DOKI DOKI MORNING" is the soundtrack of a popular 2021 Taiwanese movie "Till We Meet Again. (月老)". The audience loved the song so they Googled it. You’ve opened a can of worms!
BABYMETAL has an extensive history (and lore) which I won’t get into but a quick synopsis: they’ve been around since 2010, and started when their lead singer - known as Su-metal (Suzuka Nakamoto) - was about twelve, and the two "cheerleaders" (officially "scream and dance" (backing vocals)) - Moametal (Moa Kikuchi) and Yuimetal (Yui Mizuno) - were both around eleven. Unfortunately, Yui left the group in 2018 because of health concerns, and early in 2023 Momoko Okazaki (Momometal) was named a member of the group. They do not play instruments but are backed by the Kami Band - session musicians who are among the best that Japan (and the U.S.) has to offer.
BABYMETAL started a brand new genre of music ("kawaii metal" - cute metal), and they cannot be pigeon-holed - they are almost always thinking and moving outside box; they made listening to metal FUN! They have, to date, four studio albums, and have been on a number of world tours. It is common knowledge among their devoted fans (known as "The One") that BABYMETAL is best served live, but they do have several music videos that are real works of art. I suggest you go back to the beginning, and react to their first two music videos, "Doki Doki Morning" and "Iine!" (pronounced "E-nay"), both released in 2012. This is probably the earliest of Babymetal you will find but Su had a career before Babymetal. Many of us are serious Su stans and you have not even seen one of her real vocal performances yet. None of us will object to you doing pretty much any Babymetal. It is actually fun to see the old versions and then the new performances.

When we performed “Doki Doki ☆ Morning” prior to our first solo show, there was a buzz in the audience when we collapsed during the interlude. They were all worried that we’d actually fallen by accident! That was quite an unexpected response, since it wasn’t our intention. As for this performance, I'm not sure, but this may be a backing track, and I don't think it's the full song, which doesn't detract from their cuteness of course. But you'll have plenty of other truly great performances to explore, and we'll get you digging into their Sakura Gakuin catalog as well.

Isn't there a video from the first Sakura Gakuin concert though? That would be the first performance as Babymetal right or were they just the Heavy Music Club at that time?

The early MVs are worth seeing - The MV for DDM is a classic! Don't believe the hype that live BABYMETAL is better - it's not always true. For iine and Megitsune, the MVs are essential to see and I'd also suggest the same is true for Headbanger and IDZ. I do like the idea of visiting each track sequentially though - I'm sure you'll have a lot of viewers if you take that route.
BABYMETAL are part of a wider alternative idol scene in Japan, idol groups that don't follow the rules of traditional idol and mix J-pop with other types of music such as metal, punk and techno. It'll take you a while to get through BABYMETAL's material, but there's a whole host of interesting groups to discover in the future.
Believe it or not there are earlier SU-METAL tracks out there - she was part of Karen Girl's before BABYMETAL and BABYMETAL themselves were a sub-unit of the bigger idol group Sakura Gakuin.
