just remember in this video Su was 15 and the other two were 13 years old. i heard this back in late 2013 and fell in love with Babymetal then and have to listen to them everyday. the only band i would travel half way around the world just to see them in Japan. when you hear her live it is so angelic hearing in person. the live version is so much better as all live versions of any of their songs.

    _Sore!_ 🦊🤘🔥
Glad to see you're back with this suggestion, they were quite young in this one but wait to see Doki Doki Morning or Iine!!, you can enjoy this song with the live sound of the Kami Band at Budokan 2014 or Budokan 2021 and after with the new formation.
You did it right starting with this official MV, there are certain songs such the mentioned above you will enjoy and appreciate some differences and details from early era.
Fans were enjoying and having so much fun watching this live every night at the World Tour 2023/2024, you don't wanna miss the chance to see them live and performing this song like they did recently in all these concerts, we always love the shenanigans when performing live between the girls in the middle section after the breakdown. Last week they play this hit at San Francisco in the final part of the Babyklok Tour along with Dethklok, also DragonForce was an invited guest playing in one of the concerts, they're very good friends of BM and the guitarists did another collab in the album version with Road Of Resistance. Yesterday they played at Sick New World Festival and also playing Kingslayer along with BMTH, but they didn't play this song because it was a short setlist.
This was released in 2013 when having around 13/14 (Yui and MoaMetal) and 15 yo (SuMetal, the lead singer), so is one of their early hits and is full of japanese elements, like the "shamizen", a japanese traditional instrument, and is a party festival song (matsuri).
"Sore" "seiya" and "soya" are typical shouts among Japanese festival and it works like a "c'mon!" or "let's go" for them.
During the breakdown you can hear another typical japanese folk song called "Sakura Sakura" and they're doing a traditional Japanese dance.
In summary, song is about female empowerment and if you follow the lyrics you'll see about it, "Megitsune" means female fox (vixen) and they talk about women acting with a smile in their face while crying inside, just to fit in society or what is expected from them, when they're kind to you they're not trying to make falling in love with them, they're just being their own way, and men tend to confuse and think they're cheating or deceiving like the mythological fox.
"Megitsune" used to be a peyorative term in Japanese culture, pretty much just like around the world, but BM is using this as a way to empower women despite the meaning itself.
When SuMetal is pulling out the "tanto" she's saying "maidens shouldn't be underestimated", that refers to a japanese mob film about some boss mafia daughter before attacking someone. During live performance she does something different and looks really cool doing it.
Megitsune is a quintessential BM song and among top ranking songs by fans, SuMetal said she didn't mastered yet, that's why she used to sound check with this song before live concerts.
The origin of the "fox sign" is really long to explained but here's a short summary:
The Fox God (Kitsune Sama) is the Metal God who sent these girls (and Kami Band after to help them with the metal sound) to unify the world and set them free from Jpop slavery. The kitsune sign came out by accident around the time they created the group by the girls when trying to imitate the typical metal horn sign they noticed it was similar when doing fox shadow shape, they implemented this as part of the lore, imagery, theme and live concerts, the lore is huge so take your time and keep digging and riding the Foxhole 🦊🤘
Btw they praised for real and made a ritual to the Fox God for this song to be a hit and successful, and thanks to the Fox God this is one of their major hits and favorite BM fan songs. -NotACult- 👀
This is a song with the arrangements by YuppeMetal, he took inspiration from "Memphis May Fire - The Sinner" for the drum section, another song that i recommend you for your own time if you want.
Next suggestion to meet a SuMetal solo:
    - Akatsuki live at Budokan 2014
    See you next time. 🦊🤘🔥

The instrument at the beginning is a Japanese KOTO.
The lyrics of the song compare a woman's life to a blooming flower and the strength she possesses within her surface gentleness and beauty. The lyrics are very mature for three young girls at that time, but it is a great song with deep meaning that BABYMETAL will continue to sing in the future 😀.

Great reaction - and very nice hoodie (you didn't hang about getting one of them🦊👏). 'Megitsune' is a big favourite, often coming top in fan polls and it is the song they have played live more times than any other.
Look on 'For The Fox God' for the live performance at PIA Arena, Clear Night from April 2023 to see what they do with the song now and to see how the audience joins in (that has English subtitles too).
'Megitsune' was the first single they released after splitting from the parent group Sakura Gakuin to become an independent band in their own right - that was in 2013 - this video was released when Su-metal was 15, Yuimetal and Moametal were 13, about to turn 14.
'Megitsune' is also arguably the song that showcases better than most what BABYMETAL are about and one that truly reflects their Japanese culture the best starting with the traditional instruments (shamisen or koto, you decide which) in the intro and the lyrics about women being compared to foxes (kitsune - which also explains all the fox masks in the video🦊) which, in Japanese mythology, are able to shape shift and take human form in order to deceive.
It is also a bit of a push back against the traditional female role in Japanese society I think - or maybe it is - they are becoming more assertive, less subservient, but they are also praising and celebrating the women who have played that role over the years for their strength.
They are saying that women wearing their make up and hiding their true feelings ("crying at heart, smiling at face") are not trying to deceive anybody, they are simply trying to please everybody - so they are not kitsune (foxes), they are megitsune (female foxes or vixens) - and they are strong.
The melody used in the breakdown with the pig squeals in the middle of the song (they also use it as the intro when they play it live) is the exact melody from the very well known Japanese folk song called 'Sakura Sakura' (Cherry Blossoms).
When Su pulled out the tanto (short blade) from her microphone she said "Otome wa ... nametara ikan zeyo." (Maidens ... shouldn't be underestimated). The last part of this is a famous quote from a Japanese gangster movie said by the daughter of a gang boss.
Much of the video was shot on location at the Asagaya Shinmei Shrine in Tokyo (the tree painted on the wall is part of that, it wasn't significant for this song or video as far as I know). This has become a place of pilgrimage for BABYMETAL fans visiting Tokyo. The guys at the back wearing their kitsune masks and waving the traditional instruments about were dancers with the lady who did the fan dance's troupe.

Great reaction to an amazing song, and excited to see you got your hoodie!
I do hope you looked up the lyrics after, as it is a very meaningful song. Babymetal tears away at the traditionally derogatory use of “Megitsune (Female Fox)” to describe a cunning and deceptive woman.
They say girls are always actresses, crying at heart, but smiling at face. But, they are really pure hearted foxes. What it means to be an ideal woman is changing, so shoot up your firework!
Spoken part with knife: “Maidens…are not to be underestimated”. Quote from a Japanese gangster film, same vibes as quoting Scarface.
*On the Fox Sign:* When first introduced to the devil horn hand sign, the gals mistook it for a fox sign in shadow play, cuz, well, they were kids lol. So, producer Kobametal just rolled with it sand created a whole story/lore behind it. I mean, it’s the most adorable way to do the metal devil horns, fits their theme perfectly haha.

    Great reaction as always.
The normal rule for BabyMetal is live is best but this is a wonderful video and shows they were starting to justify more money being spent as their popularity increased.
    Next I'd suggest:
2014 - Gimme Chocolate for which the official MV is actually a live performance so fits perfectly. This is also the song that went viral internationally and became their breakthrough track.
Alternatively for pure live with the Kami Band and incredible crowd interaction:
2013 - Headbanger Legend of 97 Apocalypse, 97 referencing Su's birthday, for which there's a 4K remaster which doesn't have the audio drops from the original.
2015 - Road Of Resistance Live in Japan (official) which is almost a rite of passage video.

Yes and we couldcsay that wirh this song Babymetal Fell in love wirh Babymetal. With this inversion of an old fairy tale Koba Hit them in the Mark. They felt (as nearly everyone who grew up in a Western context that it was not a female Fox who was at fault if she had to run and leave the Hause, she simply wanted to protect her family. And while this inverted the traditional meaning of the tale it described so much better what they observed in their live. Koba must have really listened and observed them very well. He really wrote what was in their hearts. It really didn't matter that it took more than 30 revisions till the song was ready. It still controls their concerts. According to Su this is her most difficult song and she uses it before the concert how her voice is in Form that evening.

Since 2014 there have literally been maybe a dozen photos of Su and Moa outside of character/costume. They almost never meet fans. They do interviews in character and costume. Great reaction and nice hoodie (and not because I have the same one, haha...).
"Megitsune" is one of their most loved songs and their most played live one: 339 times... and counting!
It was released in June 2013. Su-metal was 15 years old while Yuimetal and Moametal were both 13 (about to turn 14) back then.
The style sub-genre is electronicore, a mix between electronica and metalcore with a hardcore style breakdown.
BABYMETAL fans are known collectively as "The ONE" and "kitsune" / "megitsune" individually. So, you can tell this song is important!
It took 36 demos to Takehiro Mamiya best known as Yuyoyuppe (or Yuppemetal), the song's arranger, until Kobametal (their producer) was 100% happy with the final result. It may sound crazy but this is why "Megitsune" is one of their best songs (if not the best).
In my opinion, this music video is a masterpiece. And about its locations:
    - The stage where they are performing is called Nohgakudo (Noh theater) at Asagaya Shinmeigu Shrine in Tokyo. This is a stage where music and dances are performed during festivals.
    - The shrine right before the breakdown with the orange-ish torii gates is the famous Fushimi Inari-taisha in Kyoto. The girls were so happy that the director traveled to Kyoto just to film that sequence.
I am very happy to have visited both locations during my recent trip to Japan (among other incredible places).

[MOA] SU-METAL will slash you. Really.
    [YUI] Yeah. [SU] (laughs)
(Megitsune video commentary from the BABYMETAL members)
Kitsune is the Japanese word for fox.
    Megitsune is a female fox.
Su was 15. Yui and Moa were 13, almost 14 when the music video was released.
The performers pretending to play the traditional Japanese instruments in this video are dancers with the Movement Design group.
Chidori Yakumo is their director. She is the woman performing the fan dance during the breakdown.
Megitsune is my jam. It's still my favorite BABYMETAL song, video and choreography.
BABYMETAL's producer Koba sent this song back to the song arranger Yuyoyuppe dozens of times before he was satisfied with it.
This one often tops fan polls, and has been performed live more than any other BABYMETAL song.
Much of the video was shot on location on a Noh drama stage in the Asagaya Shinmei Shrine in Tokyo.
This has since become something of a pilgrimmage site for BABYMETAL fans.
I visited it for the first time last March. : )

IIRC (and, please, someone correct me if I'm wrong), the song is about how kitsune are tricksters in Japanese mythology and how women wearing makeup, etc. to make themselves pretty are not being like kitsune. Not sure how well I explained that, so, again, if I got it wrong, someone please correct me. 🦊

When you are looking around for versions, check out a version with audio from "Red Fox Festival" from 2017; it was one of five individual shows where each had a different criteria for audience attendance - Red Fox was women/girls only allowed. By the way, many people say that Babymetal's songs are like animated songs.
Conversely, many of Japan's anime songs are influenced by metal songs.
It's said that, in the 1990s, the decline of metal songs in Japan caused people involved in metal songs who lost their jobs to go to produce anime songs. 😀

Megitsune was Babymetal's first single released after they became an independent act separating from their parent Idol group (Sakura Gakuin). The MV was also my introduction to Babymetal, back in 2015, as it was the first one to show up in my TH-cam feed, after many weeks, that did not have children in the thumbnail 😅. While I still had a "they're kids! They're just kids!" reaction and was somewhat put off, when the first chorus hit I was blown away by Su-metal's singing. And then there's that heavy breakdown to an old Japanese folk song (which surprisingly I had heard as a child).
Su- was encouraged to sing the song in Japanese Enka style. So we got a no holds barred performance of her just after her voice changed with her wonderfully sweet and narrow vibrato. It is an incredible point-in-time documentation of Su-'s 15 year old voice. The producer even left in the sound of her inhales so we hear just how tight her vocal cords still were.

BABYMETAL music videos don't have English captions and very rarely do they sing in English. There are some live versions that some people have gone to the trouble of adding captions but I suggest that you look up the lyrics first before reacting to the video if that's something that's important to you. Just sayin'.
No offense, but I think you're pausing far too much. I know why you pause but you shouldn't need to pause more than three times during the video - a fourteen-minute reaction video for a four-minute song.
    Keep rockin' BABYMETAL!!!
    KITSUNE UP!!! 🤘🦊🤘

I started to check the lyrics beforehand now. It's much easier.
The only reason you can watch this video because I stop time to time. Since it's a music video, there is so much going on I usually pause a lot more, because the storyline excites me. This is how I like doing it.
      Thank you for watching. :)

    • @Filboid2000
      @Filboid2000 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@AgnesKoteles It's your channel - you do as you do. But, to me, constantly pausing causes you to lose the flow of the song (and story-line), and if you were watching it live, you're not going ta ask to group to hold it a minute while you try to digest what's going on, are you? Like I said: two, maybe three pauses. But it's your channel. 😁

Thanks for the reaction. I am enjoying following your journey down the foxhole of BabyMetal. As for videos vs. live performances, you should take your journey in your own way and watch whatever you want. Their videos are great and your chronological exploration of them makes a lot of sense. Their lives are amazing too and I am confident you will watch those performances in your time. I am just glad you love the music and the girls like the rest of "the One".
I know you do K-Pop and global pop sometimes too. I was wondering if you would consider checking out Babymonster, the new YG girl group with a global roster of three Koreans, two Thai members, and two Japanese members. They are really talented and you might enjoy their stuff also.
Anyway, thanks for the content and keep loving the music!
