I was 10 years old when the Dolphins played the Colts in the AFC championship game. It was not televised locally so to the radio we went! Lol, man the OB (Orange Bowl) crowd went nuts early as Griese hit Paul Warfield for a 75 yd touch down. About an hour later, the crowd went nuts again when dolphin safety Dick Anderson intercepted a John Unitas pass & returned it 62 yds for another Dolphins TD (14-0), and about another 40 minutes later another Bob Griese pass - 51 yds - to Paul Warfield places the ball on the Colt's 5 yard line. A Play later, Dolphins Running Back Larry Csonka runs it in for an incredible 21-0 dolphins Victory that I couldn't believe was happening!.

It was also sweet revenge for Don Shula against his old team the Baltimore Colts. He was essentially run out of town in Baltimore despite having many winning seasons and going to SB3. Shula was also offered a chance to coach in Green Bay but as it turned out his wife felt the school system in Miami would be better for their children so Shula came to Miami

@@bufnyfan1 Well, Mary was dead wrong about the school system, but I remember when Shula came to Miami and no one could believe it, fans, players, the league no one. If ESPN's idiot talking heads were around back then, they would have never stopped talking about it. Great coaches just didn't move from monumental football towns and teams to start up back woods, third world towns like Miami was back then with their orange and teal colors and worst record in the league. Moves like that were unheard of, so for whatever reason, thank you Mary Shula for choosing fun in the sun over needing to plug in the car over night to keep the engine warm enough to start in the morning, or school systems, whatever, that move happened when I was 13, so perfect timing for me as a long time future fan.

His second wife was Mary, whom he married after Dorothy passed in 1991 from cancer.

The story goes that Shula was offered the coaching job in Green Bay and was going to accept it in 1970 but his wife felt the schools in Miami would be better for their children and convinced him to take the Dolphins job instead so he did

The perfect season essentially started the day they lost Super Bowl VI to the Cowboys

Indeed-would be their last loss until September 1973.

Shula was to go to Green Bay, but Joe Robbie gave him an offer he couldn't refuse. Plus, his wife favored the South Florida school system for the children
