    The comparison of the coin toss from Super Bowl I to much later was interesting, and a bit symbolic of what the NFL has turned in to - a giant hype machine.

    3:20, Thousands of empty seats at the AFL/NFL Championship game in 1967. Here in 2024 the average person couldn't go if you wanted. All the rich elites have made it impossible. I haven't watched in years but I like watching the old films.

      It's true, but what some people may not realize is that Los Angeles was picked as the site only about 6 weeks prior, not 3 years like now.

    The Sabols don’t get enough credit for their enormous contribution to the popularity of the league. Pure genius.

    NFL films is just a shell of it's former self since the Sabols died. The NFL network should be ashamed that they don't air more of these historical gems. They were all over TV in the 70s and 80s.

      They don't show the old stuff because they don't want people to see how manipulative, contrived and fake the NFL is now.

    It's likely that I am the last living person to have seen the complete telecasts from both networks in Supe 1.I saw NBC's live and the CBS version on tape as an AFTRA strike kept CBS from televising the Masters.Instead,they announced very late in the week that the game would be shown that Saturday afternoon.
    CBS taped over their copy while NBC did the same.
    A few years ago,a CBS tape was discovered but it was missing most of the 3rd quarter.

      @@jamessimon9164 I'll bet that you can't find another living person.The game wasn't that big of a deal after it was played.The replay was 3 months later.

    Big Ernie Ladd from super bowl champion to superstar professional wrestler. He sounded so familiar to his wrestler persona telling the coach to seek out the opposing teams head coach.

    I'm a life long Giants fan but, how could you not love Joe Willie Namath living in or around NY. To this day, I remember seeing Joe play against the Giants in the Yale Bowl in 1974 and running for a TD. We had seats behind the Jets bench and near field level. I could really get a feel for how Namath could zip the ball without effort. Incredible.

      Joe Namath had a remarkable vertical. Those jump pass pics of him in the pocket are unbelievable.

      limped in with that still bad hammy from a 1971 Mike Lucci cheap shot in a pre-season game...put out his right hand to say please don't hit me...

      When Namath and the Jets won SB III, it was the last time Joe Willie Namath ever beat a team with a winning record.

    Interesting stuff about LeRoy Neiman. I had some of his prints covering the Jets. Don't know what happened to them.

    If football catches on big time in Europe, you will see the Super Bowl move back to the daytime.

    I miss those days . . . the Super Bowl was played in early- to mid-January . . . TV did not control everything . . . the game moved right along without all the TV timeouts . . . the game began and ended in daylight . . . you name it. Like a lot of things, the Super Bowl has been allowed to become too big a deal.

    • @1966425
      @1966425 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Agree! A longer season and more teams in the playoffs is what they want. Wouldn't be surprised to see the Super Bowl played in March down the road.

    9:00, I also think that it was just a bigger deal for people on the east coast. I'm from Miami originally and I really miss driving by the Orange Bowl or just seeing it on tv.

    The Cleveland Browns won the NFL championship their first season in the league. Where was NFL films then?

    • @KeithBartz
      @KeithBartz 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      NFL Films began in 1962. So, they covered the Browns 1964 championship but not any of the Browns consecutive championships in the 1940s and 1950s.
