Shadow of the Erdtree took me around 50 hours to beat with exploring everything. The base game took 60 and every other fromsoft game has taken me around 30 hours to complete. Shadow of the erdtree is way more deserving of GOTY than the other shit released this year

Absolutely disagreed. Metaphor ReFantazio and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth are both far more deserving and are completely stand alone titles that haven't been celebrated yet unlike Elden Ring, which already won GOTY 2 years ago. SOTE is excellent but it's not a good candidate for GOTY
Your opinion, and entitled to it, but I disagree. FF7 got old extremely fast and was excessively padded. By the end I had no desire to beat the final boss.

It was excessively padded if you chose to do all of the side activities. The game, like any open world game, is played however the player dictates. If you followed the main path, there was zero to little padding. I can't imagine getting to the final boss and not beating it either.
Then the devs should’ve committed to making it a sequel. Just because it’s a big DLC doesn’t mean it should just be granted the same lvl of respect as a full pledged game. Hell, AC Freedom Cry is actually a separate title and can be played completely independent from the main game now. Although I enjoy and recommend it, I wouldn’t be quick to put it on the same lvl as ‘Brotherhood’ or ‘Unity’.
DLCs, they can just add them to Best Ongoing Games. I agree. The games that should be included in the GoTY should be base games. No expansions. Anyway, ghost notebook rocks.
It kinda sucks, but it’s also something to think about. Shadow of the Erdtree is a DLC to Elden Ring, but it could’ve been a standalone game as well. It uses the engine and assets of Elden Ring, but it doesn’t rely on it apart from that. Of course you need to progress the base game to access it, but you could look at it as its own thing. Look at a game like Mario Galaxy 2. It’s a standalone game, but it easily could’ve been an expansion to Galaxy. Exact same assets and engine. It’s just more Galaxy. I agree that this sucks. But I do wonder where we should draw the line. I think a separate category for DLC / remakes / remasters would be the best solution.
SotE may have a game’s-worth of content, but it isn’t even the best Souls DLC. If it released as a standalone game, it would pale in comparison to Elden Ring.
@@michaelharrington5860 Both you and the other person who replied are both a bunch of children who value quantity over quality. Shadow of the Erdtree is an expansion that does not deserve to be GOTY. It already has a consumer-base that enabled more purchases of the DLC that puts it at an unfair advantage over the other nominated titles.
@ Not it does absolutely not apply to FF7. Stop doing mental gymnastics. It much easier for someone to buy an expansion for content they already own than it is to buy an entirely new game It’s an expansion - not a damn game. I’m a Monster Hunter fan, and I can sure as hell tell you I’d be annoyed if the Iceborne expansion for MHWorld got announced as a GOTY nominee even though it had more content than the base game, which was in fact nominated for GOTY in 2018. Nominating SotE is tokenism and wrong, and anyone supporting this is causing damage to The Game Awards.
Jeff Key Lee should be careful not to burn away too much goodwill between stuff like this and the "Please Wrap It Up" Controversy. This coming from someone who loves ER and thinks SOTE was amazing
Mixed reviews on steam at the time im writing this message. #1 complaint is performance issues. broken ports should not be eligible imo. I know its fromsoftware but still we shouldnt reward games that don't release working as they should.
keep getting mad, SOTE is a game, a game of the year contender

It's a game expansion, only accessible through playing the base game. A fantastic expansion, no doubt, but if shouldn't qualify. It is a piece of content for another, 2 year old game, and nothing will change that.
@tvman250 they keep saying that like it's a good argument, how is that a disqualifier? This dlc is so massive that it is bigger than many other games, I think that this nomination is a recognition for setting a new standard for what a DLC could be
i strongly believe that soft players have not played the game and therefore cannot trully appreciate how good of a dlc it is it should win and it should show the other developeers

It's a fantastic dlc, probably one of the best ones I've ever played... But it's not a GAME of the year, it's DLC of the year.
Imagine being a grown man getting mad about what game wins goty. It’s ok to have an opinion but this video didn’t need to be made, this is like Facebook tier posting

I mean I make whatever kind of video I want to make, but thanks for your incredibly useless input.
Geoffrey is obvious Fromsoft and Sony Simp. Expected it to happen. Remember both Sekiro and Elden Ring won at the Game Awards. Also no one is mentioning the Zelda Snub. Currently playing through Echoes of Wisdom and it is an amazing game. Deserves GOTY nomination. It was robbed.
The fact Nintendo didn’t get a nomination for GOTY is honestly not fair to them and is why the big 3 should always have one game in the running every year.
SOTE deserves GOTY 100% no arguments. Dont use the brains dead argument: “it’s only accessible through the base game” Yawn. By itself it still shits on every other nominee this year. It got my vote 1000%

It only shits on every nominee if you've only played the DLC. Sorry, it's DLC. I loved SOTE but it shouldn't be nominated.

The line to draw would be I guess if you need the original game to play the DLC (thus not a stand alone), then it wouldn't be eligible

Oh no, here comes the Old Hunters wankers. SotE is the best DLC Fromsoft ever made, and it's not even close.
