IMHO Metaphor deserves game of the year by far compared to all the other games. I've played all of the nominations except Black Myth Wukong. ATLUS has this weird problem where many people just ignore their games because they're too complicated and their hardcore fans think the games are too simple and have insane expectations that are never met. Metaphor isn't a perfect game (no game is) but it's damn close. Some of the biggest complaints are a single dungeon is too long and there wasn't enough content in the back half of the game (which shows how amazing this game is if 60+ hours isn't enough content).
I like the idea of adding a “best DLC” section of the game awards but i feel you might have to make two different ones. One being “best paid DLC” and the other being “best free DLC”
the main reason why for me is that most paid DLC has much more content behind it then a free DLC has. Which would mean anything for free DLC wouldnt stand a chance against paid DLC in that case. An example would be shadow of the erdtree DLC going up against friends of jimbo DLC.
Personally I really liked Wukong but I am a sucker for soulslikes. But many friends of my that played seems to agree that it's at least a pretty good game
As someone that was sick and fucking tired of people saying it takes two was a pity win because that game was legit a masterpiece, i don't think wukong is there out of any agenda or anything I think the jury just loves soulslikes + this year was extremely dry for game releases + it was really popular with people. If there IS any agenda on the game awards its just that Geoff despises Konami
I feel like it has to do with a lot more that that. Including being cheap and being built at a time where we have modern refrigeration and not having the tradition of having a basement so it’s not expected. Also love the random thought
I personally think that Astrobot or FF7R2 should be game of the year, but I do think a lot of your criticisms of Wukong are unfounded. I t's a pretty great action game, especially for a studio's 1st ever game. the sexism atributed to it was literally a misinterpreted local idium and one of the devs posting a screenshot of one of a demon lady from the game with caption that basically translated to "still would". There are female characters in the game, they're just not in the opening segment so the criticism that the IGN writer gave is equivalent to saying "Shigeru Miyamoto said Link is only allowed to be male, and there are no femme coated characters on the great plateau, so even though Breath of the Wild is a fun game, I dont know if I can get passed the sexism presented". It's literally the type of thing that makes you say "WTF are you saying?"
I understand what you are saying about the Marvel V Capcom nomination Will, but I personally think it at least deserves to be nominated. The collection does contain only old games, but most of them are old games that the fighting game community have been waiting for a re-release for a very long time. Most of them have not been available in an affordable way. I recommend looking up videos by MaximilianDood on what this collection means to the VGC.
Some clarification. The Xbox OS is literally Windows with a wrapper with validated software and targeted hardware. If windows did more validating/locked the os down It would be better
not only was multiversus already nominated for best fighting game of the year a few years back BUT IT LITERALLY WON FIGHTING GAME OF THE YEAR ALREADY so to see it nominated again this year is actually disgusting
The area of Texas I live in has a massive aquifer. There is a combination of both limestone near the surface and a water table that is high enough that adding basement just isn't feasible. Also, the main reason northern states have basements is to ensure the pipes are under the frost line, and this isn't a concern in southern states.
I agree with Bob about standalone DLC. I remember Assassin's Creed released standalone DLC with Freedom Cry a few years ago, which could be bought with or without Black Flag. It had a completely different protagonist and everything, just same time period. If a DLC doesn't require an existing game, then I'd be happier with them including it in the game awards.
I dont get why they dont just have targeted categories for game awards. Have a best remake category and best dlc/expansion category. There are enough titles every year for it. Game awards folks, you run this thing, you can make whatever categories you want! Add a best dog petting category, best game use of a fart sound effect, whatever, nothing's stopping you!
I remember getting Jade Empire for Xbox back in the day because of its excellent review scores and my love for KOTOR. However, unlike KOTOR (and later Mass Effect), I didn’t love Jade Empire. In fact, I never even finished it. I just discovered that Jade Empire: Special Edition is available on Steam, so maybe it’s worth giving it another try on PC
Out of these picks for game of the year, I would personally pick FF7 Rebirth…BUT I was in twitter and saw people losing their mind that a “stupid card game” they had never heard of is up for game of the year. Because of this, I am voting for Balantro out of pure spite (and also the games fantastic, but mostly spite)
1) y’all are the best. My favorite podcast. 2) mergers and acquisitions and conglomerations is *the* underlying problem in the entire economy in every single sector. Sad to see video games go the same way. EA, PlayStation and Xbox acquisitions killing beloved studios AND losing institutional knowledge for studio game development with constant layoffs (except Nintendo). Hard to think of situations where it’s worked out re: price or accessibility for the consumer. Good Capitalism requires competition which requires stronger antitrust and anti monopoly laws. Anywayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy 3) Keep talking DMCA and think you could legit get some stuff changed if you focus effort on influencing legislation. Seriously! Thanks for the great work 🎉
It’s not a game awards show anymore, it’s a sony awards show. Almost all games nominated are a pivot for the ps system. Think its a coincidence that wu kong is not on xbox yet? Neither was baldurs gate 3.
That's Xbox's fault though (admitted by both teams), they can't wait until the hype has died down to put them in the game awards. It has to be when the game actually releases and it has - it has released for PC and Playstation.
Part of it is that Microsoft has stopped pushing Xbox exclusivity and big Xbox tentpole releases, pivoting to cross platform (and more importantly day one game pass) releases. They're also (allegedly) difficult to work with (whether because they're unresponsive or impose stuff be shippable on whatever the less powerful Xbox is called) and have a lot easier time sacking studios (such as Tango Gameworks) than in Japan with Sony.
@@synn8875 i would have put more higher rated indie games in the categories this year. Because a lot of them are actually more creative and better than the standard yearly action rpg crap.
35:35 i cant belive you said animal well wasnt one of the best games of the year, n ufo 50 is ur so biased... i played both n animal well is a million times more worth it in my humble opinion n it is a really important game to exist ever
Wulff brothers, it’s been months since the Wukong controversy was debunked. You are a gaming podcast. Please update your information about it. Do better.
It’s one of the biggest reasons why they don’t have more viewers and subscribers. They are not accurate on a lot of information they talk about and they are often clueless.
Gotta say, the constant joking about the anti-woke people is about as annoying as the anti-woke people themselves We're all just tired of hearing about this shit

There isn’t enough dlc that is substantial to warrant those categories

Best visual = stellar blade
If you know what I mean
This episode was cluttered with commercials, I almost turned off the episode...
I hope either Astro Bot or BM:Wukong wins
I've heard most houses in California don't have basements due to the frequent earthquakes.
I feel like it has to do with a lot more that that. Including being cheap and being built at a time where we have modern refrigeration and not having the tradition of having a basement so it’s not expected. Also love the random thought
A Pizza Hut Tomato wine…?! The idea of tired moms settling down, at the end of the day, with a nice glass of ketchup. 😂

The Anti-Woke crowd you are talking about is about 95% of the US population.

I’m lucky where I get to work from home but my office also rules. 3 days in/2 days wfh and I love it.
"I'm like a Sony hater" Bob finally becomes self aware
Bobs "Oooooh Yeah" at the beginning sounded like the Sting Ray teacher from Nemo
I can't believe Bob voted for Helldivers 2, these are the devs that killed their own game with their incompetence. 🤣

The new shirts are nice but where do we get the hats??
I want to open up an Xbox on my PS5 so I can play the new fable. I'm not buying a PC or another console that isn't Nintendo
Will we see Switch 2 at the game awards? Probably not
29:14 i know your memeing, but might be worth a disclaimer now and then for new listeners that might miss that
I worked for Nintendo support for years and we get sent in a regular amount of 3ds that took toilet baths
I like how Will and Zim have the same facial hair color.
I only played three games this year.. ff7r2 was okay
This tomato wine is going to haunt me until I taste it
