- This is the end of one chapter and the beginning of another.
The D16 is sold and this video is made in celebration of its legacy.
The goal at the very beginning was just to keep up with stock b16's by working with what I have. 4 years with lots of hard work and preparation I've learned a lot along the way.
Congratulations on all the success you've had building the d16 and representing for all of us d-series fans. You're build was an inspiration and helped motivate me to build my own 156whp d16z6. Looking forward to watching the next chapter.

Doing it all motor was way more expensive than it needed to be if you wanted 150 whp then you literally could’ve achieved it with spray and for the money you spent you probably could’ve had a dual stage direct port kit and left on a small shot and saved the bigger shot for 3rd gear and on and probably would be hauling ass compared to how you’re running

Its nice to see other people Giving the SOHC a chance to shine! Everyone says your build goals are 200hp? And they say this and that about their B and K and i get it. The B and K and J and F are GREAT engines at pumping hp out but they don't realize how little hp it actually takes for a D series to be quick. Love the video! Thanks for sharing it! I have been sharing it to show that the D16 aint no punk.

It's just the matter of who drives the car knowing the car's capability and wether they know how to race or not! Having a fast car don't really mean anything if the driver don't know what they're doing! In my case I'm a noob so don't judge me ;)
Did you sell the D civic or is that what your building for 500 and 10's. Great video, we raced in sabin mn at Top End. What ended up being your best pass in the 1/4? I just got done building and racing a turbo D hatch all season. The D16 is a solid cheap platform.

Ok Tong Yang finally got my D16Y8 tuned today. Made only 134 whp and 97tq i wanted more.... Tuner said thats all he can do with stock header and cat and exhaust. Anyone with similar results?
That sounds like a good output if everything is stock. I'm surprised actually. Why not get some good quality bolt ons and tune again? Ultimately a d16 needs a raise in compression as they're so low from factory.
my buddy just got 137whp in his all motor d16 last week. built head, bored out with aftermarket pistons and rods all on E85. he forgot to plug the nipple on the back of his intake manifold so hes dyno tuned with a lot of air lol. tuner told him he needs to degree his cam, get top quality headers, and a fuel pressure regulator and he will make 150+whp.
No not stock only header,catalytic converter, and exhaust and intake manifold is stock. I have D16Y8 stock head with a valve job from machine shop. Only has BC springs and BC camshaft. Block was bore a bit for P29 pistons. Stock rods with kings bearing all around. Adjuatable cam gear and Aem short ram intake.Was tuned on 91 octane. Reason stock parts was to pass smog,they still failed me cuz ecu being chipped. So now i wanna upgrade intake manifold,exhaust manifold,no cat,and exhaust. Then im thinking of selling her.
Can u please tell me what cams you ran? Do u have a list of bolt ons or a page we can see them. Im currently in the process of building a daily would love that whp on my D16y8

Keep up with stock B16s eh? It's very hard to top a B16, especially if it has bolt ons. I told my co worker (who's a domestic big block kinda guy) about the B16A and when I mentioned the 165 horsepower figure on the 97CI motor he told me the article was fake and my sources are bull.
The guy had never heard of a 100HP/liter engine before. What a shame. I was talking to the guy from Jasper and when I mentioned that a K20a2 head will add 80HP to an otherwise stock K24, his eyes bulged and he looked at me like I was insane. It'll still get 30+ MPG too and have enough torque to roast 2nd gear.
The reason I love the little old D16 is that they're cheap. $1000 to build the motor, block and head. Told my coworker that and he said it would take at least $3000. I'm not sure if it costs $2000 to bore cylinders and put pistons on rods, but that seems kinda high.
The stock sleeves will hold any streetable amount of power, and a CXRacing T04E will make 400WHP for $200 with a low probability of failure. By my estimates you could have a 400WHP motor and turbo kit for little more than $2000. $600 into an LSD and then a big chunk of change into a twin disc clutch would allow you to get the power down on the track and drive like stock on the street.
Honestly though I'm thinking of a milder GT25 build, if the motor proved reliable after a year I might pull off the T3 to T28/25 adapter and just bolt on a T04E and retune it. That would cost $200 plus a professional tune if I so desire.

Help I need some advice I just bought my project civic sadly it was a dx so it only has 1.6 4 cylinder non-vtec. I wanna build it with a h22a3 so I can turbo it in the end but that’s currently very high in price so I have been debating on just building this d16y7 full NA then taking it out and upgrading pistons and rods then slapping a turbo on it. Now is it worth it to throw my money into this engine or just save up for the h22a3
Lethal Ace turbo the d16 and learn from it. Then go h22 turbo later.
The d series is a better engine to turbo(arguably).
What cam are you using? Show me the specs.

Brother,how the hell you achieved,such a high cylinder compression?,my engine pushing 196psi, on each, how far did you resurfaced your engine head? I did dyno and my d16z6 doing178.1,hp,and it's only 6400 rpm, hove come?

I know you have listed it some where else but I got a 95 coupe with a high comp z6 but its time for a rebuild and was wonder if you could list the mod list for this one so I know what to go with on this next rebuild this car has always been my inspiration

Slicks all day at the track. No point of running street tires on the track because it will spin all day.

Man you pulling on b18c1 also , i dyno my gsr and i did 160whp bone stock now im starting a little build , 12.7 to 1 pistons , ported head , skunk2 cams , ported manifold , 70mm tb , tri y headers , head package , arp studs . My goal is 200whp on 91 and a little more on e85 but if i do more ill be happy . Going on 1900lbs crx so ill be happy with my shit .
Badass Imports you should go b20v with the 12.7.1 pistons would have more output in the long run n you will make over 200whp on 91 with the rite tune you should make around 220 to 230

I've ran plenty of bolt-on to fully built D16, B16, H22, and even K-motors, and typically my mostly stock CRX will either hand them their arse, stay side-by-side, or just barely get pulled on. The only time my CRX usually loses is when it's a turbo car or someone is hiding N2O. Now, my car weighs literally 1900 lbs. I even done a little weight reduction, but I added some weight back with a stereo system. Cheers brother! Keep the D's alive!!
