    So many people still get lost finding Google Contacts in Gmail, It has moved from the left side of the screen to the app menu (the 9 dots on the right side). Frankly, I still don't understand why Google thought that was a good idea.

      Wonder why they don't put a shortcut to Contacts in the right hand side bar like they have done with Calendar, Keep and Tasks? This function is available in Gmail, Sheets, Docs, and Slides. Would make life so much easier to have access to Contacts there.

      Great Video, as usual.
      Re Google moving things around, I think they hired some microshaft people.
      Another one was when they moved creating a new filter from the top of "Filters and Blocked Addresses" to the bottom. Why not both? Why not a keyboard shortcut that only works therein to be able to do so from anywhere on that page?
      Another rant is that the latest iteration of gMail has it going to sleep when you click on another tab. This forces you to wait while it reloads even if you come right back.
      If you have any insight around these problems, please share it, and keep up the good work as you're one of the better 'explainers' I have the pleasure of watching.

      Google moving things around for no good reason is like what supermarkets do when they move products and produce around which confuses and upsets customers.

    Love your videos! I'm still kind of new to Google apps, but learning a lot. While I love having the master database of contacts and consolidated information, I do not like having every entry appear in my Galaxy phone's contact list. Especially the ones I don't have phone numbers for. So I created a new label in Google Contacts entitled 'My Phone' and added the label to each contact I wanted to appear on my phone. Then on my phone, Contacts>Settings>Contacts to show, I selected Custom List>Google>My Phone. Now I don't have to scroll through everyone in the entire master database when using my phone's Contacts app. This works well for me, giving me a much more streamlined Contacts list on my phone. Thanks for all the info you share!

    Yesterday I decided to use my Google Contacts as my CRM. I started going through each contact and standardizing the inputs (first name, last name, email address, phone number and where known, company, job, title. Also I gave each contact a label: current client, past client, prospect, family, banking. Any contact that had neither an email or a phone number got delited. Duplicates became more obious and were "merged". In this process I notieced that all "interactions" are logged and I have access to them. I was looking on TH-cam for a way to include Whatsapp interactions into the email log that I see in my Google contacts. This would be phenomenal, to log all written interactions in one place. Anyway, I found your video and learned that I can link my Google Contacts access to my bookmarks toolbar. Nice. It saves one step. Thank you.

      Niamaat I am doing exactly what you did a year ago. Did you see though those PESKY contacts hidden in the OTHER CONTACTS FILE - they are the automated Contacts that google stores for you? I was thinking I had a good handle on the situation and then I FOUND THESE and I am feeling deleted. I also want to learn more about the CUSTOM FIELDS - there are TWO BLANKS first the FIELD and then another one with LABEL? How are you using those? I want a simple on with MET: 1999 the word MET and then enter the year - for example. You write and think like I do ... loved your comment! As we say in Italy BUON LAVORO - Here’s to good hard work!

    • @TeacherNiaTeacherNia
      @TeacherNiaTeacherNia 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@christinamifsud155 "Other Contacts" haven't been bothersome for me. I just delete or keep each one, thereby emptying the "Other Contacts". I only keep those that I can label--family, prospect past client, current client, banking.

    • @christinamifsud155
      @christinamifsud155 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Niamaat It sounds like you are more responsible and organized than I am ! So you just open OTHER CONTACTS often and “clean” them out regularly? You look at each one and MOVE it to the main contacts as you plug along - ... I did not know they even existed so that is what slowed me down - I had thousands in that file. What about CUSTOM FIELDS? How do they work? I have seen Customer Field: and then as I fill in the field the blank breaks and a second blank appears with LABEL. So what does that do? Like if I insert a date like 1998 in the custom field and then in the label field - MET - will it come out as a traceable field with MET: 1998 - - so I can call up all the people I MET in 1998? Any info and insight would be great. I AGREE - - - I think that GOOGLE CONTACTS and importing all the CSV files into ONE gmail address can a good CRM solution! Thanks for your help.

    • @TeacherNiaTeacherNia
      @TeacherNiaTeacherNia 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@christinamifsud155 You can ignore or delete your "OTHER CONTACTS". If you email someone who is not in your gmail contact list, their email address will be saved in OTHER CONTACTS. If you do not want to reclassify them into one of your designated categories when you accept then as a regular contact, that's fine. Any contact that you intentionally put into your contact list, stays there. Items in "OTHER CONTACTS" were not entered into your contact list by you. Gmail is simply capturing email address that passed throug your "to" or "from" field that were were not in your contact list. You can ignore OTHER CONTACTS forever or sift through it regularlly for emails that you want to incorporate intentionally into your list of contacts. Good luck, Cristina. Ue the tool and see how information in different fields can show up in a spread sheet, how you can sort by one or the other category of contact.

    I just saw my first video from you re: Google Contacts. Thank you. And thank you for the "label" info. That is such a help. I'm looking forward to seeing more videos to see what I can learn. But I'm still confused on several of the options available in Google Contacts. For example: "Relationship". Does this mean how they relate to you? Or does it mean what other contacts you may know that relate to them? Can you please make a video that reviews how to use the entries in Google Contacts and what kind of information you may recommend to enter. Thank you in advance. Newbie Linda.

    Another nice video
    There is a way to stop the auto complete of some email addresses. Go to settings , "Create Contacts for Auto-Complete" option
    If you want to add businesses to your contacts, then add new contact and just type the phone number in a phone number field, and then save, Google will then add address and other fields without you having to do this (for most businesses)
    Address in Contacts of course links nicely to Google Maps
    Adding birthdays and anniversaries in Contacts also allows you to have those show up in your Google Calendar

In the classroom is the child's parents info. I used to be able to click a box to add both emails to the childs account, so when sending a group message to the entire class, both parents would receive the email. Now, that box is not there anymore and even though both parents email addresses are under the child's info, only one parent is receiving the email. There is no box to check anymore. How do I fix this? How do I go about including both parents in emails? Your help is much appreciated

    A few observations. The separate Contacts "site" is not new; it's been there for a number of years. In fact that is how I have managed my contacts for as long as I can remember. I don't think I was ever aware that there was a way to manage them inside Gmail. The shortcut g c (go contacts) is only available if you have keyboard shortcuts enabled in Gmail settings. There are several other g (go) shortcuts, as well as many others. The magic shortcut is ?; type that from the inbox and up pops a nice helper that gives you all the available keyboard shortcuts. Be careful when using the labels (i.e. groups) in Contacts; when you address an email to a group and any contact in it has more than one email address defined, it's a bit random as to which one will be added to the recipient list. Contacts has no way to tag one address as the default and appears to take the top (i.e. first entered) one when addressing via a group but sometimes that seems not to happen. It is also not possible to reorder addresses in a contact; you must delete all addresses and re-add them with the one you want to be used added first. There is currently no way to have a contact in two groups with one address used by one group and another address used by the other group.

    Thanks for all the videos you do...awesome. I was wondering if there a way to assign tasks to a google contact. Also any way to add notes to that task? I want a very simple and easy to use task manager but I want it one that integrates into gmail. The very important thing is having that task association to a contact. If possible two. I own a retail brick and mortar store and we have custom orders for products and being able to have a vendor and contact associated to the task is important.
    We were using Insightly for a long time and they made things complicated and my staff has a hard time finding things now. So my search is on for something easy and integrates into google. Some of the kanban gmail integrations seem so have issues all the time and I hate it.

    Thank you for all the helpful videos! I am working with an older friend in his business and I am trying to get the most out of his Google Workspace. He has been Apple based for many years. The biggest roadblock to transitioning fully to Google has been trying to figure out if Google contacts has a similar capability that Apple has with smart groups. Using smart groups to organize and make lists of contacts. Does Google have a similar function?

    Is it possible to sync google contacts properly with a MacBook Address Book? The last time I tried it, it was a mess. On my MacBook I still use Thunderbird because it's more convenient as Gmail online in the browser, so a neatly synced address book would be nice...

    I have just found your channel and have enjoyed your Google series so far. I am not sure what changes have evolved since airing but I plan to setup my Google and Chrome using your tips.
    For email, I use a Hotmail account as a primary and use gmail for my hobby of crafting and TH-cam.
    I want to be able to view my hotmail from Gmail. How do I do this while taking advantage of the synced contacts and a group email folder?
    I also know of someone who has added the extension for AOL to their Google browser, they are very old school, we are talking seniors here, the same question applies, syncing AOL with android phone for ease of a one stop contacts and email. How do I help them achieve this?

    Thanks for the tips! I was trying to manage my contacts through my new email service and syncing it to Google contacts but that has caused "unsynced" records that is driving me crazy. So, I'm going back to use only Google contacts as the primary source. Google calendar never fails to sync across devices, so I'm sure Google contact will be fine. (I never had problems until I tried using Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync)...

    Hi Steve
    I wonder if you have a solution to a problem with the new Gmail contacts?
    In the past it was possible to create a group and then there was a drop-down menu where you could add email addresses and you were able to put multiple contacts into the group.
    However I can't find a way of doing this with the new set up. It seems as though you have to go to each individual contact and then change that record by ticking the box for the relevant group.
    Please tell me there is an easier way to do this?
    Blessings Roger

    Thanks Steve. Google Contacts was our "School lesson during COVID" today. It was helpful. We have been primarily relying on Outlook for our Contact list and not Google but it would be great to have the one list between the 2 of us. Your thoughts would be appreciated. As an aside, the Ad for "Grammarly" always brings a smile to a sense that US English could be a base!

    You’re right-contacts should be easier. I used to use Google Contacts but then moved to iCloud, and I wish I could remember why (I’m sure it made sense at the time). And even though I am not considering a switch back any time soon, I still found this video interesting and useful. Thank you!

    Hi Steve, I have another comment and I hope I get a reply because I commented 4 years ago and got no reply. I am using google contacts for our HOA group email communication with 350 property owners. I went through and added multiple email address in a lot of the contact entries expecting that If I sent an email to that contact through a label group that all of the email addresses in each contact would receive the message but that is not the case. Is there a way to make that happen or do I need to create a separate contact for each email address that I want to send to? What is the point of adding multiple email addresses to one contact if the second email address is not accesible through the group label option? Does that make sense? Cant wait to hear your reply. Thanks for all you do Steve, very helpful!!!

    Excellent Video! Also, good tips. I think Google Gmails makes you work. Contacts are important. Once you get used to it easy. Just put a little time and effort into it. Get familiar with the product if you (people) are new.

    Hi Steve, Thanks for your videos. I have an issue with Google Contacts. I have 3 Gmail accounts and 3 google contact lists. I am sure I was able to do it before, but it won't work now. Real bummer. When I use my Samsung A22 phone and I am in this Gmail account I'd like to get the Label from google contact, but when I type the label in, it's not there. I presume my phone account is looking at my default account. Is there any way when you do an email it looks at all your google accounts contacts and retrieves the correct label? Thanks heaps Regards Brian

    I liked your video, but was disappointed that you didn't discuss the problem of deleting email addresses. When I type in the To box, gmail automatically brings up a name and fills in the To field. This is fine if the email address is correct, which is not always the case. I want to delete the ones that are incorrect, or not current, but can't find them in contacts. If I go to the contacts of the web, I can find them, but can't delete them. Could you do a video on how to delete inaccurate email addresses and who to find email addresses that automatically come up.
