This works! I was uploading my pics from a big trip, when for some reason I accidentally highlighted all 384 pictures and clicked delete. It’s the worst feeling you get when you realized what you’ve done. I didn’t even think that there is any possible way that I could bring these images back! But I found this vid and it worked. Took a few tries but just be patient and follow his directions to the tee. The most difficult one was doing the quick format as I thought that would’ve wiped out every hope to recover my pics. Recuva requiring the card to be formatted is a severe shortcoming of Recuva. There is plenty of software that can scan the card as is. Formatting is a stupid thing to do. When it comes to data recovery no. 1 rule is to NOT write to the media containing the lost data. Fact it may work does not change these facts: Formatting is a no-no + there's better software than Recuva. Added to that: Recuva did a RAW recovery or deepscan in this case which I can tell from the filenames. RAW recovery can be achieved without ANY format -> RAW without use of file system. Something like PhotoRec is a lot safer.
I had the same problem when recovering my GoPro file with recuva. I've run the corrupt video with restore.media online service and they fixed it. might help in your case!

Hello, I'll be trying this right now. I had a memory card that suddenly stopped working. My camera couldn't read it, nor could my PC. I formatted the card as you said, with a quick format, and it is still recovering. I'll be back with some updates!
Had to turn to Restore.Media service after using Recuva - all my videos got corrupted while using it. Recuva restored my pics & docs ok, but not videos. Smth to do with fragmentation I guess.
There is another risky way of formatting it using something called diskpart in the command line of Windows. I don't know if diskpart will wipe and write blank data to your card though. I will have to try it out. That could also explain why your card is showing only 30mb. It might only be seeing 1 partition. I recommend looking at the card using the Disk Management Option in the Computer Management Program. There you will see your card and how it is partitioned.

It should have worked. Are the files not showing up in the phone either? It could be a defective card then. For an experiment, try to copy one small file to the card and then copy the file back on to the desktop to see if the file works. If all that works, then the card should be ok.
Were the pictures stored on your phone or the external card? Either way, you first have to get the device to show up as a storage device on your computer. Kind of like as a thumb/flash drive where you can drag and drop files onto your phone from your computer. Also, before all this, you would need to install drivers so that Windows will recognize the phone as a storage device. So if you have Windows, you need to install Samsung Kies first.
I should have waited a bit longer to come back from my trip before accessing the card. For some reason I couldn't wait so I use the card to put it on my android, through otg and external card reader. android created folders on my cards basically overwritten some files I believe. I pulled most of the files but some very important and memorable photos are pretty much gone. If I have waited a bit longer and use this software, I will probably retrieve the some missing but something very important to me. Anyway, i using a deep scan and hopefuly I can still get it back.. I also noticed three corrupted and yet readable with messed up quality. (before using this software). My fault.

Not sure how the canon camera deletes the files. If it erases it and writes over it then no it will not work. There is erasing and then there is initializing the hard drive and I think it does more than erase the files on your camera. Or the area where the delted files are temporarily stored are not accessible through usb.
Formatting = overwriting = lost data. Any data recovery software that requires a user to format a drive in order to scan it for lost data is clearly written by someone who has no clue what they are doing and doesn't give a rip about the user or their data.

It didn't work for me either. My SD card may have been water damaged though, so that may have something to do with why it didn't work for me personally.

so you need to additionally format card with computer, after you formatted it in camera?
You can give this program a try. It should not harm the data with just a scan. If it does not work then you will need another program.

How come it took me 2 hours, and it said it found 6k files, but after the scanning it's just 42 files😭😭😭😭

which one did you download? Recuva Free or Pro or Business? Because the free version is what you should have downloaded.
