For those of you who are having trouble with “No Disk found” you have to disable your system integrity protection Restart your computer and as you hear the chime hold command + R In mac nav bar (Top left click near Apple log) click untiles then terminal Type in csrutil disable then click enter Restart your mac then run photo rec it worked for me 🙏🏽

If you are facing a harddisk not found issue. Might be because you are running mac osx high sierra. Just google: ‘photorec harddisk not found’ and you will find a relevant answer. One more thing, you can use the sudo command in the terminal instead of going to the root user. Otherwise, just enter the admin password when it initially prompts you to (the white window) and press enter. Otherwise great video man! My recovery process is currently underway, hoping for the best!

absolutely outstanding...recently took a trip to Colorado and my daughter took some pictures that were very good...I unfortunately accidentally deleted them and was heart broken...this process was easy and free. it worked! i just had to choose ext2/ext3 instead of "other" because my files where jpg not raws but i recover everything including videos :) thank you man!
This didn't work for me at first.... It was not showing me my disks. I was able to do it another way without a root user. First look up "HOMEBREW and TESTDISK Installation Tutorial" you should be greeted by some nice nerdy lookin guy. Follow every step until he types "sudo testdisk" in his terminal. you will need to type "sudo photorec" you will need to type in a password but after the program runs come back to this video! Hope this helps.
Me and another photog shared an SD card. I have cannon and she has Nikon. She had to re format and pay for software to retrieve her files. So why I did not think to re format my card is beyond me. Some irreplaceable sessions were done and boom. I was hysterical! Thank you from every fiber of my being! I cannot thank you enough!!!
i got this too on a mid-2012 macbook pro; the latest version of photorec doesn't work on my 64-bit cpu, but here's how i got it running: 1) get homebrew (just google this, it's straightforward) 2) open a terminal and run 'brew install testdisk' (no quotes) 3) in terminal, do 'sudo photorec' and enter your system password then it should work as shown in the video. he's using version 7.1, which supports 64-bit cpus, and that's the version that gets installed if you install using homebrew. won't find out if it actually worked for another hour and a half; here's hoping

watching this in 2022, now the Beta is 7.2 and I tried going over your instructions and got until the terminal part but the values are not the same as the 7.1 version. when open the terminal it just says there [Process completed] and nothing more. can't type anything.

If you you receive a "Bad CPU type" download Homebrew from Terminal by long command from (brew.sh/#install) and once installed enter "brew install TestDisk" into Terminal. Then use the binary photorec installed via home-brew instead of the binary download from cgsecurity.org and run "sudo photorec"

thank you so so much - I can't believe this actually worked - my phone unlocked itself in my pocket and decided to format my sd card - 4000 pictures from the last three years - was scared to get my hopes up but currently have 1600 files recovered in 20 mins - over the moon!
got 6800 files in the recovery in the end - a good few are copies but seems like all my photos are there - even if I'm missing some I feel so relieved to have the bulk of them back safe and sound - I need to invest in some hard drives or cloud storage to stop giving myself heart attacks like this!

Hi Dean, when I accidentally reformatted my camera's SD card I took an additional 60 pictures. I didn't realize I had deleted 59GB of memory. Now when I attempt to recover the 59GB of memory I lost it only recovers the 60 pictures I took after reformatting the cameras SD. Is it to late to recover the 59GB I lost?
I just followed your instructions and attempted to recover a few video files I accidentally deleted from an SD card. The video was taken with a Canon M50. It restored the JPG files perfectly, and it created a large number of mp4 and mdat.mov files. None of these files were playable with Quicktime or VLC. I also tried CardRescue, but got similar results. Any suggestions?

This worked like a charm. The terminal window came straight up, so I skipped the steps for that, but then the SD card was not showing up. I went back and followed the other steps and it showed up in the "root" login. Thanks so much Dean!

It may be complicated, but like romances, it's complicated. Take time, do it, it's worth it. The video DOES get it right, which is a better option than not getting it right.
YOU SERIOUSLY SAVED MY LIFE!!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH! I deleted everything on my sd card by hitting delete all on my camera instead of hitting delete by date! I seriously got sick to my stomach. Note: you can just type ‘cd *drag the sub folder ‘7B’ into terminal, press return the use the command ‘sudo ./photorec’ without the need to enable or login as ‘root’ as an administrator you are already a ‘sudo user’ or ‘super user do’ 👍 so the terminal will look like ‘cd Downloads/testdisk-7.1-WIP 3/7B’ enter, the type ‘sudo ./photorec’ enter your password. Hope this helps someone

I get the message "Bad CPU type in executable". That is not an issue, as I've found another programme that recovered my DJI drone files hassle free. But I'm computer illiterate. Is what I've done following THIS video safe and is it reversible?
Dean I need some help. I selected to add the photos just to the desktop. It seemed to have transferred files it has taken space on the computer. I had to stop with about 15 minutes left. Once it stopped there are no photos on the desk top. Do you have any ideas of were I should look. Or any one else out there. I want to transfer them to my externals now that I'm home. Need to find them as they are taking up a lot of space on my mac. Thank you for any help

well, didn't work, only found 7 files, some .gz, .bdl (i think), a sqlite database, but no .jpg or .arw

Just go to the system preference menu and you can delete it from the user group.
you can undo it with the same process you added it but instead of enable root user disable it i watched the video again to undo it
How did you move the raw files after the recovery process. All my files are in my documents but can’t move them or open them with photoshop.

“photorec” is damaged and can’t be opened. You should move it to the Trash.

i dont have enough space so i plugged in a 2TB harddrive and when i pressed "C" on its name it started puting them on my desktop, please help
Keep selecting the . . until you go all the way back and see /Volumes. Select /Volumes and find your external drive there. Good luck!

There are some corrupted files after the recovery. Is there a way to access those too? About 117 files were good, but 52 were corrupted.
Hi Dean, when I accidentally reformatted my camera's SD card I took an additional 60 pictures. I didn't realize I had deleted 59GB of memory. Now when I attempt to recover the 59GB of memory I lost it only recovers the 60 pictures I took after reformatting the cameras SD. Is it to late to recover the 59GB I lost?
I just followed your instructions and attempted to recover a few video files I accidentally deleted from an SD card. The video was taken with a Canon M50. It restored the JPG files perfectly, and it created a large number of mp4 and mdat.mov files. None of these files were playable with Quicktime or VLC. I also tried CardRescue, but got similar results. Any suggestions?

Just my luck...it didn’t work for me. 😅 Nonetheless you explained everything so well and clearly that I was able to follow along easily so BIG THUMBS UP. 👍👍👍 I also tried Disk Drill Pro and ran into the same problem... a black screen for my video files, mais c'est la vie. This worked like a charm. The terminal window came straight up, so I skipped the steps for that, but then the SD card was not showing up. I went back and followed the other steps and it showed up in the "root" login. Thanks so much Dean!

@@pilarposada2804 Were you able to do that? Mine won't move, so they're trapped in this 'root' user account as well. It was 'preparing to move' for ages, I couldn't get them onto an external drive.

how do u remove the root account from the mac?
follow the same steps to enable it, but then click "disable root user" when you get to the menu where it would say enable root user previously.

It may be complicated, but like romances, it's complicated. Take time, do it, it's worth it. The video DOES get it right, which is a better option than not getting it right.
YOU SERIOUSLY SAVED MY LIFE!!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH! I deleted everything on my sd card by hitting delete all on my camera instead of hitting delete by date! I seriously got sick to my stomach. No one else video was working but then, you came along and said "ssssss you lost your files huh" lol. All in all, this took me about 30 to 40 min 9im not tech savvy. THANKS AGAIN

Note: you can just type ‘cd *drag the sub folder ‘7B’ into terminal, press return the use the command ‘sudo ./photorec’ without the need to enable or login as ‘root’ as an administrator you are already a ‘sudo user’ or ‘super user do’ 👍 so the terminal will look like ‘cd Downloads/testdisk-7.1-WIP 3/7B’ enter, the type ‘sudo ./photorec’ enter your password. Hope this helps someone

Dean I need some help. I selected to add the photos just to the desktop. It seemed to have transferred files it has taken space on the computer. I had to stop with about 15 minutes left. Once it stopped there are no photos on the desk top. Do you have any ideas of were I should look. Or any one else out there. I want to transfer them to my externals now that I'm home. Need to find them as they are taking up a lot of space on my mac. Thank you for any help
