Seeing the difference in how a pro shoots versus an how an amateur shoots side by side (both in terms of shot selection and mechanics) really makes me appreciate how difficult this game can be.
This is absolutely awesome. This is what amateur players need to hear. The reasons and why’s behind different shot selections from a pro. This is the stuff that matters. Keep it up Karl!!
Karl, this is a great idea for a series. Over in the US Rollie Williams was doing something similar on the Kamui TH-cam channel. Hunter Lambardo was helping him get ready for the US Open but then COVID happened and it didn't really go any further. Rollie had developed a pretty good following on his "average to good" series and was doing videos with a number of pros that live in NYC. This is great watching you continue to work with him.
This was awesome!!!! More please, not necessarily the average pool player, but shots from matches and set tgem up and explaining why its would be better this way or that...specifically safety shots, and push out options
First of all I really like these types of videos. Hopefully you keep producing more of these. On the first shot on the three. I would have hit it like the average pool player and probably ended up in the same situation. The way you hit it is for sure the way to go. On the final shot hitting high on the cue and knocking the 2 into the side and getting position on the three is a very natural shot for me, and as you said, it makes getting on the four easier. Please keep making this type of video. Most of us can learn a lot from them.
7:00 The suggestion to pot the 2 ball and draw back to the 3 might be correct only if the player is capable of pulling it off. Most amateur players won't be able to do it anyways so you can't say that this is the right shot. You have to adjust the suggestion to the level of the player
Biggest tip here is to play into the line of the shot, when possible. It will change your shot selection and make you a better player knowing you have more room for error. If you don’t know what playing into the line of the shot means, watch the video until you do. 🤷🏼♂️. Thanks Karl great video. More pattern plays plz
Curious, what is your opinion on players that use those gloves? I've always thought it would lower the feel you have on the shot and if you maintain your cue it shouldn't be like sticking so never understood them, do you see a use for them?
Karl's way was definitely the right way. Less risk, more control of the cue ball, and a better chance to win the game from all of the shots. Especially the safety. Even when it wasn't played well there still was a distance factor and some impeding balls to navigate for the opponent.
"If you don't pot that you left him safe." Then dude says "when you're saying that it's a very negative attitude, in the sense that you're thinking about missing the pot. I was thinking about making the shot, ripping the cue ball" I live this part that convo
Good stuff this Karl and Loz. Hate to presume he came off 8 Ball to these 9ft tables, however that jump takes some mastering. How long did it you to feel comfortable playing on bigger table mate?
Heyy, can you help me with how do you aim, i use fractional for shot thicker than 1/4, anything thinner i would go for ghost ball but the potting ratio is very low, would love to hear your advice. Thanks❤
I think I understand how to do the delayed top spin but it would have been nice to hear how. I guess you just hit it a little harder with less top spin make sure the speed is slow enough for the 3. I'm going to have to play around with different speeds to see how much it can be delayed, never thought of that.
Hey, my man, it's a lovely video yet again. 101 training with Mr Box office? I would sell my left leg for that opportunity. You definitely need to get back on tour with the yellow ball 1 shot🤣🤝🏻. That #PoolLife jeresy is beautiful 😉😍. Hopefully, more videos like this in the future, my man! #HeyPoolFans #PoolLife #TheGameIsTheTeacher
You said high left on the 3 ball shot for 2 rail shape but that shot is hit with stun left and a drag stroke and you actually seemed to hit it that way. Am I correct?
great example that you should bring confidence up when your playing. and also he needs to keep in mind that every shot while he's on the table he needs to feel it you know what im saying
The change to a purple 5 ball still messes up my brain, I'm so used to an orange 5 it just throws me off. I'm also red/green colour blind so that doesn't help.
In shot #3 I wouldve played the 2 with top-rightened english, so that the cue ball travels from the short down coushon to the short top coushon. I think its easier to controll that way, but I guess thats just personal preference
Yeah but maybe when the 2 is so distant to the 3 it is probably easier to draw instead as the cue ball has to make less distance and you don't have to manipulate much with outside spin which can be tricky to control at fast speed. However my first thought was to follow with right as well, I guess I should try this shot 100 times with both ways and see what works best!
@@robertl426 yeah, the sets i play with are all normal (purple is 4 and not 5). anyway, watching the first part i'm thinking "why is Karl so happy with the line he got? a pro should do a lot better than that" then i remembered the change in colors but wasn't sure which color set he is using. Makes sense Karl uses the matchroom color sets, lol.
I think the safety on the yellow. Maybe safeing the yellow down table was the right shot for Karl. But possibly not for him, he took 5 goes to get it, i th ink 5 goes if his idea floating the white down and he probably would have done it!
If you're not willing to set these shots up and learn them as an amateur, then you're going to continue missing them every time they come up in a match. I think think the goal is to learn and improve our game, even as amateurs.
What's your definition of a "proper" sport? Snooker is much harder for recreational players yes, but when snooker players have entered pool tournaments they don't automatically win every time. It's a different skill set.
@@robertl426 Snooker players easily dominate in pool without much training. There is a great deal of evidence for this. Meanwhile, pool players NEVER upgrade to snooker because they lack the ability. This is because pool is not a proper sport. It is the children's version of snooker.
@@demonmonsterdave I will agree with you that a pro snooker player can enter a pool tournament and be competitive, yet if a pro pool player were to enter a pro snooker tournament they would not be. However, that does not mean that pool is not a proper sport however you are choosing to define that. American pool regularly incorporates skills that are rarely if ever seen in snooker. For example: jump shot and kick shot pots (with position), the break, push shot strategy, the 3 foul rule, nominating pockets etc etc. Just because snooker is a more difficult form of billiards does not mean that pool is not a proper sport. In pool there is 8 ball, 9 ball, 10 ball, straight pool, bank pool, one pocket, 3 cushion billiards and the list goes on. Snooker is just snooker. I'm a fan of all billiard sports including snooker, pool is a sport just like darts is still a sport.
@@LorenzoRossi_ I am sorry you got over-emotional and over-reacted. There is nothing wrong with enjoying a game without needing to pretend it is a proper sport. Recently got 1 on 1 training with Kristina Tkach in Houston. Best training I’ve ever received. I am in full support of this becoming a series 👌🏾

This is great. I learned a lot from that last shot. His miss on the two ball is me 85% of the time when I try to draw it back.
Karl you 100% correct. But what I've learned from playing many years. Everyone thinks different. If you have confidence go for it.
Please make more videos like this one! This is perfect for players like me, that take the wrong shot a lot!

Please explain how to perform "delayed forward" in the last case example. Thanks!
The left spin on the safety shot @4:58 is that because the angle is so sharp the english doesn't really take on the first rail?
Love the video and good education with it for positional play which is the hardest part of pool

What is delayed top spin, can't find any info about it.

TS: 11:30 would it be a bad shot if he left the white where the 2 ball is and play the 3 high right to get position on the 4?
I actually see 2 options
Like to check it one rail ?
