Written by the legendary Graham Gouldman who also wrote the hits "For Your Love" and "Heart Full of Soul" and "Evil Hearted You" for The Yardbirds; "No Milk Today" and "Listen People" for Herman's Hermits; "Pamela Pamela" for Wayne Fontana; along with another hit for the Hollies "Look Through any Window". He wrote or co-wrote pretty well all the songs for his band 10CC as well.
Love this group. The Hollies are a British pop rock group formed in 1962 & known for their great harmonies. They had so many hit songs such as "Stop Stop Stop", "On A Carousel", "Carrie Anne", "Here I Go Again", "Pay You Back With Interest", "Look Through Any Window", "King Midas In Reverse", "Jennifer Eccles" etc. "Graham Nash" was originally in this group & left in 1968 to form "Crosby, Stills & Nash".
This is almost a perfectly written song. Cool melody, catchy beat, magical chord progressions (love that bridge or middle eight), a really original story idea, and very well written lyrics and... perfectly performed, mixed and produced. It all came together on this classic!
This has one of my favorite lyrics in rock music: That's the way the whole thing started Silly but it's true Thinkin' of a sweet romance Beginning in a queue Being able to work a rhyme with 'queue' in it when it's about romance is slick.
The first two songs you did of theirs was in the 1970s towards the end of their hit making years, and now you are listening to them in the 1960s which was the start of their career. Look Through any window, On A carousel, Stop Stop Stop!, Carrie anne are 1960s hits of theirs....along with Bus Stop.
This was prior to Graham Nash leaving the Group and forming Crosby Stills and Nash. This song was written by Graham Gouldman of 10cc who also wrote ‘Look Through Any Window’ another of Hollies hits.
graham Nash of the Hollies tells the story of gong round to this young kids house (Graham Goulding) who was only around 15 and he played them this song, which was one of many he had written and they were just blown away
As a not so innocent 18 year old I saw their first ever gig as The Hollies at the Oasis club in Manchester in 1962. Coincidentally the song Bus Stop was written by Graham Gouldman who like the members of The Hollies was a regular visitor to the Oasis and went on to become a mainstay of Manchesters, if not the countries most innovative band 10cc.
You will hear all these hits from time to time at stores and such, but we're so focused on other things we tend to not notice. I'll watch someone react to a song, they'll say "seems familiar", then within a couple of weeks I'll hear that song when out somewhere. Not always but not unusual for that to happen.
This is the original Hollies with Graham Nash. I much prefer them over the later pop version. After Graham left their sound changed drastically. Bob Elliott was a great drummer.
The Hollies has a great catalog of cool music which still my two favorites are" HE AIN'T HEAVY,HE'S MY BROTHER and LONG COOL WOMAN IN A BLACK DRESS, honorable mention THE AIR THAT I BREATHE.
The Hollies, Bus Stop, was, wrote, by Graham goulden, of another British group called, 10CC , the also wrote, No Milk To Day, for Herman's Hermits, so check out 10cc, I'm not in Love, and the group 10cc are still preforming today
Like you, I first heard this song well after its original release and during my junior highschool years and always hummed it to myself at the school bus stop 😅. Love the Hollies. Check out Long Dark Road from them. Love the acoustic guitar work in it along with theit great harmonies.
Thank you for doing this suggestion of mine, and many others more than likely. They were such a great band with many great tracks, ones which I suggest by them are: "Stop, Stop, Stop", "Carrie Anne", "Just One Look", "I Can't Let Go", "I'm Alive", "The Day That Curly Billy Shot Down Crazy Sam McGee", "Sorry Suzanne". There are many more but these are good ones to continue with.
u need to know that London is a very wet city. Everyone carries one all the time. So being without one sharing is good and is done often. I loved this one right form the start and I dont like very many love songs b/c most are just to sappy. This one tells a story and so is more then just another love song.

you reactors are lucky....we had grow up waiting for these songs to be written. It took decades to hear them all. Think about how many songs you have been exposed to. Isn't it great?
Don't forget to listen to their hit "Hey Carrie Anne"
The studio version of that song, the arrangement is much better than the live version...
But, hey, I love Carrie Anne, no matter what her game is....

Stop Stop Stop is a must hear!
This is almost a perfectly written song. Cool melody, catchy beat, magical chord progressions (love that bridge or middle eight), a really original story idea, and very well written lyrics and... perfectly performed, mixed and produced. It all came together on this classic!
Look Through any Window comes to mind thinking about the Hollies. It's similar to this song.
I loved growing up in the late 60s and 70s, so much great music.
I have LOVED this song from the first time I heard it nearly 60 years ago, and I LOVE it as much or more today. In my all-time top ten!❤
the hollies are an incredible band !
This is a perfect pop song!
The Hollies are fabulous, so many hits. This is one of my favorites, along with Hey Carrie Ann and For Your Love.
another one by this group I have always adored !!!
One of my favorite 60's songs.
Only The Beatles had more top ten hits in the UK than The Hollies.
This has one of my favorite lyrics in rock music:
That's the way the whole thing started
Silly but it's true
Thinkin' of a sweet romance
Beginning in a queue
Being able to work a rhyme with 'queue' in it when it's about romance is slick.
A favorite of mine from my youth! The 60's

Stop Stop Stop - Hollies ✌
Ian Paice the Drummer with Deep Purple stated that Bobby Elliott, with the Hollies was a big influence in his drumming!

Always loved this one
Another great band from the same time period is The Loving Spoonful. You'd like their "Nashville Cats" and "Daydream".
"Tell me to my face" and "Look through any window"
Give "stop, stop, stop" a listen it's one of the hollies best
I'm Alive, Carrie Anne ...... two great Hollies tracks
Saw them at my local Kinima along with the Spencer Davis group when I must have been about 17. I'm 75 now. Time flys.
Another similar huge hit was '' Stop , stop stop'' all the dancing''
Keep going with the Hollies.. Great music. Thanks for the channel ❤

Excellent analysis!
This is the music I grew up listening to. Simple songs that tell a cute story.
And suddenly I'm back on the school bus, while my homework is still on the kitchen table.
Oh Yes !! That was me to 100%

Your voice is very good. Should have a radio show.

I don’t know if you have listened to them, but the band Cream reminds me a bit of the Hollies. The bands in the 60’s were so great.
Two more great Hollies hits that many people don't about are "Long Dark Road" and "Another Night."
Cute song! Love the catchy lyrics! The Hollies had such a wide range of sounds.

“On A Carousel”
I'd love ro your reaction to Carrie Ann soon. Pretty snarky lyrics! (And its about a real woman....)

The Mona Lisa Twins do a fantastic version of this (as does Graham Gouldman in an acoustic set on YT)
There was a very entertaining video released for this song back in the day.

Manchester is Wetter
Love song quirky and funny. I loved this as a kid.
Suggest “Look Through Any Window”
If you like this you must try the zombies tell her no. They are different from regular 60 and 70😊
THE way to listen to this songs of the 1960s has to be an original 45 pressing on a Decca record player (in mono)
You should check out the grass roots.

Such an unusual way of telling a story.
...Or 'Sorry Susane'...........

You two are soooo funny. You ain't heard nuffin' yet.
Try 'enery the eighth by Herman's Hermits. From the same period of time.
