  • This video demonstrates a lot of the common mistakes that roofers don't realize they're making. these roofers all have very little time behind a gun so cut them some slack. Boycub just recently learned a month ago, you can find that video on my channel as well if you want to see his first time ever shingling and how far he's come. thanks every body for watching

    I bought this nail gun as we were planning to renew all the fencing in our back garden. As this involved 19 double slatted fence panels, 10 of which needed to be cut down in size, we knew there would be a need for a great th-cam.com/users/postUgkxHQsUrwNr5GQrnx9V4xDdUr56qxwuiBHt deal of re-stapling the wooden slats to the wooden framework. Each alteration required the re-stapling of 62 wooden slats with double staples. Prior to starting the work we ordered sufficient additional staples as per the instructions with the gun.The gun performed fantastically throughout the entire project with no jams of misfires. The adjustable power was excellent allowing the staples to be fired into the 8mm slats to the correct depth. For the price paid this was a bargain and it proved itself to be so reliable and versatile making an arduous task much quicker and professional. I cannot recommend this product highly enough and it will be used on many other projects in the future.

      That is one thing you REALLY have to watch roofing, especially when you are working with your back to the edge on the first courses where you work uphill. The second you let that youngster lay that shingle with the blown through holes.. you failed as a teacher. You just taught him that that’s okay to do, and it’s not. I’m not knocking this down, but don’t teach someone bad habits, or how to slough when no one’s looking. I was taught to do everything correctly the first time, so that there never had to be a second time. After slinging shingles for 28 years.. I still made the occasional mistake, but when I stepped off the ladder, it was done correctly. A good suggestion for those starting out, or teaching someone how to roof.. start them out with pounding nails by hand. When they’re comfortable with those movements, and they become ingrained, you’ll be surprised with the fluidity, and productivity of an air gun in anyone’s hand. The students are only as good as the teacher..

      Yeah and who cuts shingles on the finished roof? That's when you see another company repairing a roof like this because it failed due to cuts and gashes made in the finished roof by cutting shingles on it. Not even a roofer myself in just an ameture so I have nothing to gain from giving a neg review but I think there's some bad habits being taught here. I read and was told by buddies who roof that you don't do this particular habit. Pre cut them on the ground then bring them up. The stair step doesn't change weather it's on the ground or 14 feet up. You can already tell that underlayment is being compromised by razor blades.

    instantly i said to myself, you're not crazy you need to pay attention to nailing patterns always. these aint three tabs anymore! cant be a cowboy behind the gun. slow down. slow way down and don't try to keep up to the bang bang bang of the bosses/ foremans gun. also, my little trick on 36" runs and a 6" stagger, cut a 12 off of a full shingle save the 24 left over and put aside when you need to get closer to a valley throw down the twelve, watch your pattern, put your full into valley keeping nails away from where your 24 on the next course will go, install 24 on next course, full next to that and back to a full shingle on the third course watching nailing patterns as they reverse away from the valley and bingo. you'll learn it quik. i rock a straight knife on my blade and i honestly just make a mark on my shingle flip it and cut it straight before installing on the rake. why go back? hooks are a waste. nice pair of snips for the valleys, works cold weather and all. Do not give your workers a camera either lmfao.

    Though water does indeed run down hill, as long as there is no wind, a hole through many layers of shingles will leak, no matter how many layers are underneath. You should always cover over a nail hole with something, even if there is another layer of shingle going over it. Sometimes the edge doesn't always seal and sometimes a new roofer might not notice a removed nail and he might allow a joint to be there.

    Dude I like how you respect your guys and teach them a trade for a life time I was always wanted someone like you to take me under their wings I didn't have that opportunity but one day when you retired your name will still be mentioned by them or their kids how you guys used to go for catfish and beers after a long day of work and you've gotten along and respect them. Just keep doing what you've doing. Just remember God first people second money last.

    Pro tip instead of overhanging the shingle and cutting it with a hook blade .
    Try this turn the shingle to the back side and place it to the edge of the dripedge and cut the shingle on the roof but from the backside using a straight blade, pick it back up and fold it to finish the cut.
    Now when you put it back in place the cut will be towards the edge and you wont have to cut leaning over the edge.
    I say straight blade because it makes straight cuts easier quicker and saves blades.
    I do hope you try this atleast 1 time coming from one veteran roofer to another much respect 👍👍

    • @NWIVeteranConstruction
      @NWIVeteranConstruction  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I actually have tried that! and It was a good opportunity to do the research on whats more efficient also coz I was racing a guy I beat all the time but I didn't have a hook blade, so I had to cut my starter rake with a straight blade (shingle backwards) and do the end rake like you said, he beat me by a minute n a half n I fully blame not having the hook blade. up to you though, if that's your preference have at it man!!

    Dude 1st off thank you for your service. I just have to say as diy guy and a skilled plumber and hvac technician thank you for your easy to understand explanation on the roofing tips. I tried roofing as a career when I was 13 and only lasted about 1.5 years. I then at 17 had to roof a 36sq roof after hurricane Katrina by myself and now here 16 years later after hurricane ida i find myself doing it once more and again by myself. I am by no means a roofer and thank you for helping me out on all the things I should already know....thanks bro

    Oh I see you're going left-handed to come out of the valley so you don't have to cut the shingles.... but depending on the pitch the pattern doesn't always work out to 5 5/8 and It looks like your pattern is maybe 4 inch and water will track over from the key way and find a nail ive seen it too many times on repairs.

  • @miketv4627

    Micro management at its finest. If you have to walk around and correct mistakes or put in your 2 cents all day theres something wrong here. If I had to work with you I'd be gone after about 10 minutes. Apparently these guys really need their jobs so kudos to them for sticking it out. Is there a dislike button?

  • @leighwhite9656
    @leighwhite9656 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Water actually gets in between the shingles most the way, don't believe me next time you RIP a laminate shingle off you will see the water stain, you guys do alot of crotch nailing that's when you nail less then half an inch from the start of the shingle and then skip 3 too four inches so water does line up on the seam, if we did that in Canada we would be repairing for days after wind storms, for example look at 3 tabs, you probly havent used that type of shingle before but you nail 4 nails and have 3 tabs covering the nail with key lines on both sides between the shingle with no paper underneath they never leaked, put alot of 3 tab in my day

    • @NWIVeteranConstruction
      @NWIVeteranConstruction  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      What're you talking about this time dude? Stay off my shit with your constant negativity lol i ain't with all that. this whole video is consumed with me installing proper nailing disciplines in these guys. N I know exactly what three tabs are n have laid plenty. I'm not gonna respond to your constant thrashing anymore
