In the case of F91, what I heard is that Tomino really wanted to keep working on it, but Sunrise/Bandai wanted him to work on Victory Gundam, and because they owned Gundam, not him, he didn't really have a choice. So he tried to make Victory Gundam as dark and depressing as possible in the hopes that it would get canceled, but the fans ended up enjoying it too much.
Do you think that a lot of parts of Victory Gundam were scrapped ideas from F91? Just wondering, because people want the full story, but it seems to me that it would end up retreading stuff from victory.
im going through the lore of all the f91 spinoffs and its baffling to me how literally all of them take place either before or after the movie. You would think that a movie that really felt like episodes smashed together would deserve a remake in any form, anime manga or otherwise, but they refuse to do it. Like, did the guy from the f91 game really need his own prequel manga
I get the feeling they don't want to adapt Crossbone into an anime/OVA because they know they have to remake this lol. I think the animation is phenomenal but I never had a Gundam show consistently have me going "WHAT IS GOING ON!?"
I find them remaking this very unlikely. They aren’t really making UC full series anymore. An OVA seems possible, but I think they would just end up doing Crossbone if they do OVAs. They probably don’t have plans for Crossbone at the moment with Hathaway being the primary focus, but once Hathaway and Witch from Mercury, they will probably start to plan that and Thunderbolt.
Why would they have the obligation of remaking it? They never did this before and a new series is not the strongest of reasons for remake, the movie is still there and most of the important plots to Crossbone are at least understandable. They probably don't want to make Crossbone just because they don't see good reasons to make full series in the UC anymore, the original saga ended and F91 and Victory failed to create a new one, so when G Gundam and Wing succeded they thought that is just better to go with this format since it doesn't scare new people away because of continuity and for the people who like the UC they have a more special treatment like OVAs and movies.
Honestly instead of a movie they should have paired down the series as a limited 6 episode OVA. It would of had more time to flesh things out and make an actual ending. F91 and 0083 have the same issues to me, GREAT start that just faded to tedium at the end
That's what I heard and read about back in the day that Gundam F91 was supposed to be a tv show. The Crossbone Gundam Manga is awesome !!! I hope they eventually make it a show or OVA series. Its really Awesome to see Hathaway's Flash finally become a movie !!!
Hey cheems! Found you from your video on A New Translation, amazing stuff! Also the WFM has been such a refreshing feel as someone who's been quite used to the franchise, and the Aerial is also one of the most interesting main mobile suit from all that we've seen of it, as well as the very charming Suletta, I think many new fans are exploring the series now from the rise of WFM's popularity worldwide, here's hoping for more gundam content! Cheers cheem!
I think that for Hathaway the reason he called it unadaptable was that he expected it to be faithful, but adaptation means changing things to make it fit better with a different medium. Like I heard rumors that the second movie will change quite a bit from the books to fit better in the UC canon. It’s just pretty funny that I thought that he considered it unadaptable for medium reasons, but it’s just because of canon, which is just a weird reason to consider it unadaptable.
I honestly think it's a good idea to include the events from "UC" into the canon timeline coming into the film adaptation. Considering the ending of the novel, how corrupt and broken the Federation has become, they would use this moment to get their revenge for the "Laplace Incident" against Captain Noa.
I really don't like the F91 movie. The first time I saw this, I thought it was a condensed fan made series to movie. So much so, that I remember searching online for the full series. Either way, I don't like the Vanguard suit designs nor do I like the F91 design. However, it the series had lots of potential. I just wish he decided to hold off on it or make it an OVA. Hoping he doesn't get screwed again with the Crossbone OVA.
@@lelouche25 it’s like gundam age. Only in universal century. Stupid super robot mecha design, ugly character design. Antagonist evil, because he’s evil. Steel seven is actually pretty good. But to understand what happened there you need to read crossbone and skull heart.

At least we have Eternal Wind

F91 had so much promise, it’s just such a confusing mess.

I’d love to see Crossbone get animated, but what I’d love to see even more is Gaia Gear animated.
I probably die by the time Crossbone Gundam got it's animation adaptation but at least my grandkids could enjoy that masterpiece.
Well, f91 might come back in the long future since bandai is doing the UC Next 0100 project. But it'll probably take decades.

Wait, Tomino wrote crossbones? I thought it had another author.
It had an artist, but Tomino was the one who wrote it
I think that steel 7 and ghost weren’t written by Tomino
I want a "SENTINEL" film series.
Sadly that is a problem because of rights issue with another company.
Only movie that was able to cram a series successfully into a single movie is Macross DYRL.
Shame would've been more awesome if it did well and have the sick ass pirate gundam sequel be animated instead of a manga
Another track is Snowspeeder Rescue from Hoth too.
Hathaway vid would be interesting
the biggest mistake the movie made was not having 'The time I'm seeing you' in the theatrical version
