@@levelcrossing150 I don't know where people get the idea that everything was so boring and beige in the 70's ,far from it there were some fantastic colours and Ford played their part. I saw a Purple Velvet 2000E at York last year. if you want to view it its at 7.12 mins into the video.studio.th-cam.com/users/videohN0P4hxSOa8/edit
I still have one of these, but mine is a 1600 GXL and is a very rare 2dr design. They are fantastic looking cars and I really enjoy driving it around the Lincolnshire countryside
I think the two door looks much sportier and as you say rarer. Very nice. What colour,? They did make some rather special colours. I agree they are very striking cars and as i said i like the double headlights over the later 2000E. Great that it gives you so much enjoyment ,that's what its all about , that and the memories. Have you checked out the You Tube channel Cortina City? It features the GXL Cortina. If you haven't already viewed it , it may be worth checking it out. Thanks for watching Clive and taking the time to comment.👍
This blows me away. I was brought home from hospital in a 1972 Red 1.6 when I was born. My Dad had it from new. I remember the Black Plastic seats that got insanely hot. Fitting fibre glass wings 'cos they rotted. The steering wheel looks familiar from that model. Happy memories. Thanks!
This was for you. Following your request i went and had a quick look what was out there and the first car i saw on car and classic was this one. I thought i know that car, that's got to be featured. It was as though it was meant. Pleased you enjoyed it and that it brought back some happy memories. In the 70's and 80's there were lots of cars you could buy replacement wings made in fibreglass. They seem to be a thing of the past as well. Plastic seats, sunshine and shorts could be a deadly combination.🤣
The hips on the Ford Cortina Mk3 / TC1 are much more prominent compared to the Ford Taunus TC1. The rear end was looking very different - much sportier while the Cortina is looking more elegant which is also very very nice! The front end is looking very similar as you also pointed out but of course also with some differences. So back then the TC1 Taunus and Cortina were still looking different ... so like a brother from another mother but same father, hehe. I find the Cortina TC1 for sure as same interesting as the Taunus TC1. Did you actually also have the coupé of the TC1 or was this a German version only? Over here I've never seen the Cortina Mk3. Just one MK2 and a few Mk1. And the TC2 and TC3 are of course looking the same as our Taunus. Oops, paused the window, haha, I clicked on the > for the next picture ... hahaha. Sounds like it's time for the weekend, now. By the way, finally I figured out the actual problem on my computer ... I bought a new grafic card - it worked fine for a while but the problem occured again. Then I was thinking it may be something between grafic card and the screen and here we go ... new cable for 13 Euros and the problem has really disappeared, now. I hope I can say the same tomorrow, haha. Because this morning I was experiencing again the problem as before. But perhabs I'll post my videos with a few days because I was only at one more classic car meeting after the museum and then on Sunday if the weather will stay dry (like it seems to be) then I'm going to visit the last one. So I have no stress to show the videos in the next weeks until April, hehe.
I think virtually every panel of the Taunus was different. Well put Sven, brother from another mother .he he . We never got the Coupe it was Taunus only Interestingly at Ripon 2 years ago there was a Taunus of this era unfortunately I didn’t take any pictures but had a good chat with the owner. Have a good and enjoyable weekend my friend. 👍
Nice. I find the gxl very appealing and much more retro than the 2000E. Don't get me wrong the 2000E is a nice car i just like the styling of the twin lights more. Its a colour that works well on the car . Thanks for watching and commenting.👍
My favourite Cortina the Mk3 - and in GXL trim what's not to like? Great example with the 'correct' dashboard (i.e. the early one) rather than the one you got in the Mk4 later. Cool colour too. Funny the owner had a packet of old fags because I remember these from childhood (as taxis) and they always smelt of fags 🤣 It was the 70's 🤣
It is a really nice example and i like everything about the gxl trim. It just shouts 70's from the rooftop. Platforms, flares, choppers, jumbo collars on shirts. The colour suits the car. Players no 6 was a relatively new brand introduced in 1966 and at the time i think introduced in response to try and combat new tobacco duties. It was shorter in length and was one of the cheapest cigarette at the time .At one point the company had to apologise as they had trouble keeping up with demand in certain areas. I remember when i started work you could hardly see across the room at times. Buses ,the top deck was for smokers but it didn't make any difference for those on the lower deck you still got the smoke. As you say it was the 70's.🤣
That's fair enough i just like it for what it is. When the 2000E came out i thought they were really posh but looking back i find the front end styling of the GXL much more appealing. Thanks for watching.
I think the colour is Tawny. A great car . Am I right in saying the very early models suffered with a vibration issue which was dealt with while that strike was going on. My Dad had an early J reg 1600L. Loved it I later had the facelift mark 3 great cars of an era .
@@stevehillier7018 Your quite correct the colour of this car is Tawny. Your also right about the suspension issues.👍 As you will know owning a Mk3 it saw the MacPherson strut front suspension replaced with a double wishbone suspension, It gave a softer ride but had the effect of causing understeer on cars with heavier, bigger engines. This brought a lot of criticism from the press when it was launched. Ford set about altering the spring rates and damper settings along with the front suspension bushings. This had the effect of reducing bounce and harshness of ride at low speeds. Thanks for watching and contributing to the discussion.
A beautiful example. One of the best colours for a GXL in my view.
I think it suits it very well but they had some lovely colours in the range. Thanks for watching.👍
@@TipTopMotors. Yes they did indeed, my father had a 71 Daytona Yellow 1600 GXL and later a 74 Purple Velvet 2000E.

@TipTopMotors. I did suspect my post might have prompted it. As you say, meant to be!
Very nice Mk3 Glyn, a rarity being one of the oldest surviving cars!
Yes it was a nice car. Cheers Neil.
Now that IS nice 👍
Thanks for watching👍

There was a trim level below the L, known as the base, that was more basic the even the L spec
Quite right, i slipped up there. I should have realised that. Thanks for keeping me right. You never stop learning.👍
