ACE produced special record breakers the XP3 and XP4. These along with standard ACE motorcycles were owned by Dr. John Patt, a veterinarian and former president of the Antique Motorcycle Club of America. He was at the big vintage motorcycle swap meet and flat-track race in Davenport, Iowa many years ago. While his wife was playing with my two month old Corgi puppy(on her 1st road trip),I was talking with Doc and sitting on the XP4! It is one of those special machines that is stunning to see in person and sitting in the saddle was an unforgettable moment.
That is a genuinely intestinal story thank you for sharing it. Information on some of the early US companies is quite scarce here in the UK so a bit of back ground knowledge is always fascinating
@@bikerdood1100 I feel fortunate that I grew up in a place and time when motorcycle books were becoming more common. British authors, including Mick Walker and Brian Woolley, taught me much of what I know. I used to see machines in in photos and never imagine standing next to them. I have now seen so many rare and wierd bikes that I believe almost anything can show up at an antique motorcycle show. It's a rather small and wonderful world and motorcycles have made it so much more interesting.
It is a shame that in-line four engineering held to antiquated valve layouts and never evolved into overhead valve layouts or even liquid cooling.I guess their complexity was enough to doom the design to high cost and low sales volumes.
Valve layouts were of their time of course. The fours were very expensive, a Ford model T was less expensive but much less sophisticated of course. These were not mass production machines in the modern sense
I totally forgot about the Motus. What a great concept engine. Too bad they couldn't make the production workout . $40k is a bit steep for my shallow pockets. Cheers
Love the videos and the detail you go into. I would like to see a history of Francis Barnet motor cycles, My father owned and rode two of these machines and did all his courting of my mom on one. The very one I learned to ride on and had so much fun working on to keep it running. The worst thing about it, was when it got hot, it would start to 4 stroking on me, so I fitted a ram air scoop around the engine to get better cooling and this did look a bit odd but it work like a charm. Later I bored it out a little and stroked it to get 237cc and fitted a bigger mag and carb. It run better and pushed the top speed up to 70mph.
I am planning to do potted history of all British makes eventually But won’t really be successful until I have more subscribers . I think really I keep putting it off because it’s a bit of an undertaking
I would love to see a video about the Triumph Sprint ST. I have owned many liter bikes over the years, along with all the different Gold Wings. None of my previous cycles made it impossible to get a good contact of my feet to the ground. I will have to lower my new Sprint ST to safely ride it. What is your take on higher seats of new bikes ?
I find the high seats on modern bikes idiotic for a number of reasons Riders are getting older , the average height for a human is only 5”7 And of course their are lady riders too. My wife has ridden for years and gets really fed up with the number of modern bikes she simply can’t fit on. I can see no good reason for it at all
Thank you four a fascinating collection! Do you have anything based around BMW's Flying Brick, the K1? I had one and wangled a purpose-based frame and also a brand-new Ural Sidecar. I also had it adapted to my disability; I lost my right arm after an RTA in my hometown. It was an interesting ton when it came along :D .

Too bad about Motus going out of business, they were a breathe of fresh air to the UAM's (Universal American Motorcycle), aka V twin.
They were a too small they had a great concept but better funding would have made the bike much mor3 affordable, then they would have been cooking

Nothing really I mention the K1 in one of my fail videos but aside from that not yet. It’s definitely on the to do list as I’m very fond of the K75
