This video after watching over 100 maybe even 200 OP-1 videos this here was mind bending and very special. I sat here kinda jaw ajar. Bravo man, awesome work.
For a total noob here, a basic question is how to chop and assign? Sick beat find and tutorial! Video kinda glossed over the fundamental basics tho. I understand the video is advanced beyond my knowledge.
This is awesome, thank you so much for showing us a bit of your technique and workflow. As a new user of the OP-1 (and music production noob) something I struggle with is trying to chop up bits that loop perfectly on 2/4/8 bars. I'll often plug things into endless sequencer and end up with loops that are either too short or too long. I assume some of this comes with experience, but do you have any advice?
I know this is old but going to have to try the endless trick. I don't quite get the mechanics behind it but I've had a few loops recently with faint drums on and even when I get the sample to loop perfectly on the tape it's like my sequenced drums never have enough swing on them so the snare my snare hits at the same time as the faint snare in the sample. Don't know if it's because it's being played loose as you describe.
Great vid. Glad to see you back and doing OP-1 vids! That’s how I first got hooked on your channel. How did you match the tape speed to the loop? Thanks.
For how old this video is and how many times I've come back to it this is the same question that I have....weird that you asked just a couple hours ago haha. My only guess is that he may match the metronome to the tempo of the record while it plays before sampling?
Supreme Lord Commander - In a Kardashian Big Brother Bachelor Real Housewives 24-hour news profit cycle divided world disco is like a pleasure island and everyone should get a ticket for free if they want a journey to funky town.
djthomaswhite disco is an abomination from the pits of hell (literally). It has very rudimentary beats and is generally awful (Outside a few top hits, ie. bee gees). But if you take basic disco beat and apply enough funk it becomes more digestible. I will produce a video soon on disco and where it came from (hell) and what Saturday Night Fever is really about. Anyway - nice jam on the Op-1. No offence intended.
I assume you are aware that sampling somebody else’s music is copyright infringement unless you have the original musicians and song writers permission.
How do you think people get permission to sample copyrighted music? You have to sample the music, create your track and then send it off to get sample clearance. No one is going to get anything cleared if they can't show what the sample sounds like in context.
It’s all rock n roll and Pirate Radio. In reality Keith I have done fair share of licensing and remixing with permission. This vid? It’s just a demo. Start with art, the crushing blow of the music business will always fall upon the creative in due time. Part of the game. Thanks for the tip though. Many don’t realize it’s a concern. My new music is stolen and shared freely the day I release it for sale (or earlier). Same with major artists. My how things have changed. Too many Robin Hood’s of the Groove out there.

the op-1 will age just like the mpc2000xl and will be as classic as a strat or fender p bass in the instrument universe.
I’ve gotta look further into this as well. Thank youuuu!
Very cool.....nice editing sample chops, impressive
Welcome back!
really awesome video

I sampled the record at 33rpm. Changed tape speed in OP-1 to match the loop. It doesn’t always work out so close but this time was on point.
What i don’t understand is how you isolated the drums like that with each track.
Liam Killen perhaps on the record there was a section with just the drums. And then he looped that.
Philipp Marc Yesh that’s totally possible! 🙂
I like it!
Nitro 😍
Ohhh shit I have that exact Record and I sampled that record!!!
Is that filter from custom firmware?
it's nitro
Damn you look different man. Much more meat 🍖 an beard but you still have that special music ear 👂 👍🏽❤️
OP-1 German Style Ha! Totally. Weight still the same... The damned white beard really changed things up. It was a surprise for me too.
wur u been bruv
Question, do you set the tempo of your tape prior to sampling to match your sample or is there a way to time stretch the sample?

Do you think disco should be outlawed and all records burned? Or should we all worship it and embrace it’s unbelievable awfulness?

He knows. The dude is just toying around with a piece of music equipment. It's all good 😁
