- A longer beat making video this time around!
I took the OP-1, sampled a an old lousy Swedish record and some drum sounds from the DrumBrute and made a little track out of that. This is more or less a tutorial so feel free to ask any questions about my process, how or why I do things or really anything you feel like asking.
Teenage Engineering’s OP-1 is the only piece of music making gear Im using here, no computer, no midi isync, nothing like that at all.
Thanks for watching my videos and for showing your support for what I do. I hope someone finds this helpful, inspirational or just enjoyable to watch. I know it’s a bit long but hey… That happens sometimes :)
It’s still possible to help out to design my cover art for my upcoming beattape (on cassette and digital). More info on: Accuratebeats.com

The scratching at the end really brought it all together, nice man.
Got mine for 10 days now, still learning a lot and these kind of workflow videos REALLY help. Plenty of useful stuff in here. Thanks!
Oh!? Im glad to hear that, I hope you'll fall as deeply in love with the OP-1 as I have :)
The best of luck to you!
I absolutely adore it. It completely challenges habits in a good. I'm so used to working with midi clips and have everything "non-destructive" that I often have a hard time to "commit" to certain sounds/melodies/riffs.
Still need to figure out how some of the synths/lfo/arps work, but I'm getting there. Also need some more drum samples.
I can absolutely relate to that! Being forced to commit to things like you are in the OP-1 can be very helpful from time to time! The fact that it's actual audio you record onto the tape makes it "real" and you need to lock things into the timeline.
Sure, working in DAW's has it's benefits but I agree... Having that non-destructive option at all times might make you a coward :)
Good luck man, have fun!
The OP 1 is a beast 🙌🏽
Your videos helped me decide to buy the OP-1.... love the workflow tutorials and sounds great !
oh, really? Im glad to hear that! I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I do :D:D
WoW, That silence when you removed the thing at the snare part
Yeah, that made a big difference, right?
Never underestimate the power of silence! :D
Grymt!
Fantastic demonstration. Thanks
Thank you for watching
Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks! Did know you could lift/paste to keys. That's amazing
i wish there were more op-1 videos like this, not a fan of the "lo-fi" and other videos out there, i have to watch mpc/sp-1200 videos for any inspiration
Top tip at 8:14. Didn't realise you could cut n paste within the sampler. Thanks👍 Enjoyed watching this.
+J Brown oh yeah, it's super useful too when chopping samples! Thanks for watching!
Thank you for sharing your process!!
+Tomas Hernandez thank YOU for watching!
Still coming back to this one. I miss these ones :(
Yeah... the beloved Op-1!
I need to make another video on that one soon enough
Thanks, just got an OP1, I learned a lot tonight.
How do you like it? I'm debating buying one
Super nice ty man, greetings from Berlin
Soo phat man! Killing it good! And congrats to the 10k subs!
Thanks a bunch man!
Very creative and dope.
Back with a sick beat!
Thanks! I thought it was time for a beat video again after all those reviews and such. Glad you liked it!
Really helpful for me, thanks a lot!
1:25 sounds like the beginning to "B*tch Don't Kill My Vibe" by Kenny
OP-1 is an awesome instrument,..But it is expensive,...it is it for a reason,....it is really good,...nice tune there :)
Subscribed. Hope you made more like this.
Dude your the man!
he's BACK!!
It's incredible to watch your process. Subbed. Thrilled to watch your next videos, dear Sir
Thanks a lot! I really appreciate it!
Awwww, the time you convince me it was a good piece to sample, so dope! Thanks man. If you have any resource you would recommend to a less advance OP-1-operator, feel free to share! And keep up the good work! :)
I have the same phone case as you! It always gets a lot of compliments. :)
+Nukes4You the one from death lens? It works great with the lenses for all I know :)
Accurate Beats Accurate Beats haha whoops I made a mistake. I have a phone case that looks almost exactly like the cassette at 0:28 in the the video on the left. For some reason it didn't occur to me that it was probably a real cassette! Mine is made by Rocket Cases
What video should I watch as a complete beginner to the OP-1?
I would check out Liam Killen's videos, they offer a really good breakdown of the key stuff.
There seems to be a bug where when you change inputs for sampling everything gets quiet. If you turn the op-1 off then back on after its set on the input you want then the volume is right again.
Hey Dude, great work as always. Still looking forward to your Beattape, any news on that? Cheers from Germany
Thanks! Yeah, I'm constantly working on it, trying to finish the mixing and such. It takes a lot of time but I'll be done soon enough. :)
Video update coming soon
Accurate Beats That sounds great man :)
10.000 subs, congrats!
Thank you!!!
hi, thanks for the videos! Just one question, OP1 or MPC ONE ?
I'm not sure; but I think you both talked me into and out of owning one of these evil machines (and, btw -- I already own one of these evil machines). So? Awesome!
Come si fa a suddividere la registrazione su più tasti?
Snyggt jobbat! Mer videos som denna / marus
Tack man!
Yeah dude!
Dope chops
Thanks!
Your videos are very informative and kickass. Do you have any dawless beat making videos. I'm just getting back into tinkering around with some beats. I only have a microbrute volca sample and a sr16 mpx8 and a tascam 4 track sd card recorder. I'm sure you have some good tips for making beats with low budget analog gear.
dope
I dig your music! I had an op-1 for a week or so. Is there a way to make it louder. I had trouble hearing it over my other gear.
Oh yeah! That’s a common thing. The Op-1 has an internal “mastering limiter” that is easily accessible and makes the output a LOT louder. Sorry to hear you sold it just for that.
I want the OP-1 so bad, but it is sooo expensive :(
Buy a ko its cheap and portable
Yes sir...nice ..
🔥🔥🔥🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
Top draw 👊
Riktigt bra, tungt!
Tack!
Damn hard beat
dope!
My man sorry to bother but would you enlighten me on how you run the op 1 to your studio monitors?
Hey!
It all depends on the situation but normally I just run it into an input on my audio interface. Everything that’s connected to the interface also goes out to my monitors:D
Aww I see... just got one a few days ago and kinda want to run it through my I pad any suggestions on how to do this
Hey Accurate, did I hear that right? Did you say that the OP1 only has 12 sec sample time, and it autochops?
Cloud Paradigms yeah! 12 sec of sampling per sample. It can store a lot of samples but its limited to 12 seconds for each one.
The Op-1 autochops the sample on to the keys as soon as you’ve recorded a sample. Then you’ll go into the editing mode and replace all the start/ end points of the sample and make it your own.
The auto slicing just works as a thing to start out with.
Thanks for watching!
I wish there was autochop like that on mpc500
Do you produce for a living? Your setup is on point.
leeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeets gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
What is the name of that cassette player next to the turntable u we're scratching on?
Do you have a hiss in your op-1?
Rate this
YOY DO THE EDIT?IF YES WHAT PROGRAMS YOU USE FOR THE BASIC VIDEO AND WHICH FOR THE "MOVING TEXT" PREMIERE AND AFTER EFFECTS? KEEP IT UP
socproductions official tv no screaming please
WHAT????
socproductions official tv yeah, I edit everything myself. All the editing in this one is made in Final Cut Pro X :)
Thanks for watching
NICE WORK...YOUR BIGGEST GREEK FAN
NOT SOME REASON...I JUST FORGET IT ON
Do you think the op-1 is a good buy? I've been thinking about buying one and I'm kind of stuck about it
Still the best portable all in one groovebox.
Is that scratch library vinyl available anywhere online for a DAW or something?
I'm not sure, I've had it for years... I can't the meaning of having it inside a DAW, it's just a bunch of small sounds. Search youtube for "Scratch samples" and I'm sure you'll find most of them.
Thanks for watching!
at 11:25 I have to compare this beat to Suff Daddy. Excactly his style
+Alain Felger hey, thanks!
I do dig Suff Daddy a lot!
This device isn't the best choice for hip hop beats, isnt it?
Yo! Teach me how to make better use of the OP-1 sampler, I just bought my OP-1 and so far I thought the sampler was subpar, but then I saw this video and realized that there is a better way to use it, teach me what's up my man!
:)
Check out some of my other videos on the Op-1 - I share a few tips and tricks here and there :)
Accurate Beats thank you! Any specific suggestions?
How long can you produce a beat for on this?
The tape is 6 minutes long so if you record the beat on the tapa you're limited to 6 minutes. Otherwise you could use the other small sequencers and play them forever in loops.
Nice to c da op1 ! Great thing... Listen to my tapes
Niiiiice
Thanks a lot!
Nope
How's ur wye been my g
