  • In Houston, Texas, hundreds of thousands still do not have power amid intense heat after Hurricane Beryl made landfall earlier this week. Houston's main utility provider is accused of not being ready for the storm.

If they don't have gas powered stoves, propane grills, and/or working refrigerators and microwaves, giving them a box of mac and cheese or ramen noodles won't do any good

It’s Texas. Many people have gas stoves and/or grills. This is how people survived through Snowmageddon. And when the gas ran out, because their only source was propane tanks, they burned wood. Yes, there are people out there, like apartment dwellers, that did not have these luxuries, but even they, if starving, will find a way to soak the macaroni, so it’s soft enough to eat, or trade it with someone who can use it for something else.

Isn’t Texas the only state with an independent grid?
The state’s stubbornness is just going to keep getting worse. Climate change is definitely hurting Texas and they cannot handle snow storms, heat, hurricanes, or tornadoes.
Would it really hurt Texas to connect with either the eastern or western electrical grid?

Im so sick of the victim blaming! Houston has approximately $7MM people in the metro area. It is NOT a cheap place to live either. Groceries are high and have trouble just getting groceries for the month depending on their income level. Most of these people prepared as much as they could. You can’t have a generator in most apartments unless you have a garage in some cases. Even if people had food set aside, its the still the heat to contend with and gas needed to power the car, etc. Then you get the morons who keep posting about the TX grid system and they most likely have never been to TX or Houston. THE GRID SYSTEM IS NOT THE DAMN PROBLEM! Shut the EFF up if you have nothing positive to say or are providing assistance!

I can give in for the heat but five days after a storm you should have enough food to last. Here in the Caribbean we do not buy frozen stuff. We are encouraged to buy non perishable food items and to store enough water in buckets for drinking washing and cooking. I think you need to relook your hurricane plan.

I just have one question where was Greg Abbott when his state needed him the most he was in a foreign country. Even though he knew this storm was coming to Texas he still decided to go on the trip instead of canceling or postponing the trip, to be there for the people of Texas when they rolled him the most. This is not the first time a Texas elected official has abandoned the state of Texas when they really needed them the most Ted Cruz did it during the winter storm in Texas and now the governor way to go, Texas officials you really know how to be there for the people of Texas when they really need you the most
