In order to play the _game of faces,_ there must be a *storyteller* (telling a story about oneself and making a lie sound like a truth), and/or a *listener* (trying to catch that lie). It doesn't matter if one is unaware of the situation, the other can still play and tell a dishonest story or use the skills to detect the lie. Even if the actual storyteller/listener has deep hatred to the one that was unaware.
In this video, Arya began playing the game as a _storyteller_ by sharing her story about her childhood & her father. She then inserted a lie by saying "…killed by the Lannisters with your help." Sansa, a _listener_ who is clearly not playing nor completely aware of the game, caught the lie by replying "What?"
Arya then angrily confronted Sansa about the letter (Arya's emotions were real here). She asked Sansa what was the letter all about and what was her actual story and why was she beside the Lannisters during their father's confession (knowing Sansa's direwolf had already been killed by them). In this instance, Arya is now the _listener,_ while Sansa (who is still not playing & unaware of the game) is now the _storyteller,_ only not fully telling but just merely answering questions from the listener. (Similar to Jaqen/waif asking questions to Arya, only this time, she's not holding a stick.)
Sansa was totally genuine about her story, her answers, and her explanation. Arya, who is still angry at her sister about her past decisions, was trying to catch any lie by Sansa. She couldn't. That's why in the next scene (bedroom/dagger scene), when Sansa tried to find the letter, Arya confronted her again by demonstrating the *game of faces* to her because she already had played it/tested her without Sansa knowing-the same scenario when the Waif played it without Arya knowing ("I didn't even know I was playing").
Arya knows Sansa has been truthful and now loyal to Jon and would never betray their family _again_ because Sansa explained this herself, "I was a child." She has now changed. Arya also sympathizes and understands her sister's situation when Sansa said, "I've suffered things you can never imagine." That's why Arya handed the dagger to her, a sign of trust & protection, because she would, likewise, never kill nor betray Sansa and their family.
PS: Arya also handed the dagger because she lost the game ("If you fool me, you win; if I catch a lie, you lose"). Sansa caught the lie: the "Lady of Winterfell" statement.

One thing this vid left out was that Ned had a conversation with Arya after Lady’s death. Ned explicitly told Arya that Sansa could not be called before the king and queen and call their son a liar. Ned basically told Arya that Sansa has to play the game now. Of course Arya didn’t understand then, but she does now.

The PS wasn’t needed. Arya wasn’t playing, so she can’t lose. She’s making Sansa play to see if Sansa will lose or not. Everything else is so spot on though

Sansa was right when she said Arya wouldn't have survived the things and horrors she went through. The same way Sansa wouldn't have survived the horrors Arya went through. They both had different personalities and characters and none could take the place of the other. It's just like the case of a cat and a dog. The dog will never behave like the cat and the cat will never behave like the dog.

There's a book series I absolutely adore called Artorian's Archives. It follows an old man who has had his storied life already, in his twilight years, maybe a year at most from his natural death. The kidnapping of the children he mentors and cares for in the village he fled and retired to spurs him to action, struggling between the hard years ruining his body and the nigh insurmountable strength of the world at large to find, save, rescue his kin.
In it, the old man-- a self-proclaimed philosopher, among other things, imagines a campfire, perhaps demonstrative of his will or soul, around which are seated past versions of himself. He approaches, and looks at different eras of his life represented by the different faces of varying ages that he once wore. The Elder sits, on the next seat, and exhales. "I have failed," he had said, felt, knew. "I cannot go on any longer. Will you take my place?"
And he looks next to him, to where next empty spot would be, as the old man let go of himself, of that personality, of his psyche, killing what he once was and re-assembling a new personality. Someone who has a new purpose and cannot give up. Someone who has to go to war, not someone who has fled all that he knew.
A story about a man who acknowledged that sometimes you have to look at yourself and realize what you were must, is, and has died, in order to make the next step, the next stage, the next evolution, the next *being* that you have to be. Figurative and philosophical, but quite engaging. To know oneself, acknowledge, and sometimes, let part of yourself die to let another bloom.

A death that’s always overlooked but was honestly (one) of the saddest (to me) was Yoren who saved Arya at her father’s execution. He had no obligation to her. He did it out of decency and honor. Risked his life, and gave it. And if he hadn’t, she would have been taken captive right then and there, and treated like Sansa, maybe worse since she wasn’t engaged to a Lannister. Underrated guy!!!!

They were the only ones to be deeply traumatized by seeing their father die. Sent them both on wildly different paths. Yet they come together because of the honor and real love within their family. The sweet summer children of Winterfell became hardened enough to deal with The Long Night.

I caught that lie too, Arya imagining herself as Lady of Winterfell to Sansa who knew her too well to think it was true. I have thought about it long and hard and I think after this was when they finally were able to unite as a team to eliminate their enemy, Littlefinger. After they both understood each other with familiarity. A bond was created where one had never existed.

its the age old question of "when in a bad situation, is it better to run, regroup and reconquer from the outside, or to stay make a few questionable agreements and reconquer from the inside"? both sides are valid, the interesting part is, that the goals are the same, yet both sides fight over which did the right thing.

I forget if it's in the series, but in the books, Sansa sends a letter to Cersei telling her that Ned is leaving King's Landing for the North because Sansa does not want to leave Joffrey. That's when Ned gets imprisoned and becomes a big part of the betrayal.

    • @jjh2456

@@kim29817 sansa was also very young at that time. 12 as far as I can remember compared to quite older sophie. Once we take into consideration the ages of the Stark kids, the mistakes they make start to make a lot of sense. I actually like sansa in the books not as in she's a very wise person, but since she's very real. We also get to see her learning curve. God is there any chance we get Winds of Winter?

    • @maliaswett6199
      @maliaswett6199 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

She didn’t send a letter. At least I’m pretty sure. I just finished that chapter and she had gone to Cersei’s room after hearing her dad tell her and Arya that they were to go on the ship in like a fortnight. She figured the king would side with him, Joff wasn’t king yet so he couldn’t do anything and so she thought Cersei would who had been kind to her so far would understand her about the love she had for Joff so she told her about her dads plan and the name of the ship they were gonna be taking. Then after Neds death is when she writes the letter for Cersei to send to Robb, Cat, The Vale, Riverrun and I think the Wall so that the Starks could bend the knee to Joffrey.
I so wish they kept that in the show if they were gonna go down this route for Arya and Sansa’s reunion. It would have made things so much more intense.

These edits are superb. Really brings out the fine detail in the series and makes me appreciate it more. Of course the final few seasons didn’t live up to the hype and buildup of the preceding seasons and the books, however, they were at least paying homage to the story for the most part. While these videos make me appreciate the weighting slightly more, it doesn’t excuse them from the lazy writing.

It took longer than just taking the city killing Cercie and taking the throne.
Then the lanisters and all there remaining banners would definitely ride north. She was never going to help anyone but herself no matter what and everyone that agreed with the plan knew that.

Arya was fine as scared kid but was totally out of depth portraying a little girl who becomes an assassin. Became very cringe and ridiculous plot armour saves her several times. The Hound puts her in her place.

BEST SHOW in the history of t.v. (In my opinion) but the ending was definitely rushed. I thought Jon and Sansa would actually end up together because it made sense for political reasons. I guess that's why they're supposedly doing a sequel to "Jon Snow" because his ending was TRAGIC.

@@Winskl9010mmm...... Have you read the books? Did you not catch the hints of the cloaking? Jon didn't give a damn that Dany was his aunt. It was his identity that had him disturbed. It's what Targaryens do anyway. It's in their bloodlines. Don't try to change something because YOU don't like it. Piss off and go read a book. In fact Jon was supposed to marry Arya just in case you're dumb.
And by the way, Ned Stark's parents were first cousins as well.

I once read that there was a deleted scene where Sansa and Arya went to Bran, and he uses his ability as the Three Eyed Raven to show Littlefinger’s involvement in destroying and dividing the family, which is how they decided he should be executed. If that scene existed, it should have been left in the series to clarify these scenes with Sansa and Arya.

@@cerebrumexcrementLittlefinger doesn't even know the game of faces exists. And he was watching which is why they had to play along to catch him. If he knew the jig was up he would flee and regroup.
Littlefinger thinks his wedge is working and has to for their plan to catch him to work.
He saw the demonstration of Aria's abilities and knows she is a threat he must get rid of.
He should have known when Bran says "chaos is a ladder" but he can't fathom Brans power.
