- Hi all ,
here is the finel reveal of my M10 Achillies for Charlie Macs D Day group build . Its a 15mm plastic kit for the flames of war wargame i have modified it to my own taste . Please give Charlie a sub here @charlie418791 . Thanks for stopping by and taking a look .
Regards Gav.
Beautiful modelling in such a small scale. The 'scratchbuilt' crew, the various stowage, tarps, boxes etc all add character. Additional detail like lifting/towing hooks also make for a more realistc looking vehicle. The welding lines are a nice touch, again, just adding detail and authenticity. Lovely paintjob too, understated weathering as would be accurate with a 'new' Normandy Invasion AFV (though I'm guessing that the necessary bright studio lights don't allow us to see the subtlety of the paintwork) but I bet it's there!
An advantage to modelling (as in going the extra mile) in 15mm is that (a) kits are a lot cheaper and (b) they take up a lot less storage/display space and (c) even a keen beginner can get 'Display Model' type results. (Some of your other 'Tutorial videos' in 15mm AFVS take us through the techniques you utilise so that even a beginner can follow along and see how it's done!)
For those who simply collect and don't model themselves, I'd ESTIMATE that a 'super-detailed' 'one-off' model like this, (15mm) would fetch about £20+ at auction on E-Bay and the like. (Collectors or even wargamers will pay reasonable prices for 'unique' models that offer that 'something extra' as opposed to 'straight out of the box'. The boyos playing cards on the gun mantlet is an ACE touch and one the true collector will appreciate!)
A word on costs, perhaps? Just TWENTY QUID??? (Gav doesn't say, but this AFV probably took between 4-5 hours overall to complete. This does not not include paints and materials, nor indeed the research needed to get an authentic result. Plus, it's really 15 quid if you take into account the initial kit price.) While a 'super detailed' 28mm kit might sell for anything up to 100 quid, the fact is that 15mm kits just don't sell as well. The market is smaller AND EVEN WITHIN THAT MARKET the 'collector/connoisseur' sector is smaller still. (Though it exists...) Most collectors will buy a 'one off' model like this one and THEN contact the modeller to ask, "Can you do me three Sherman Mk IV tanks and a Sherman Firefly?" (This is when the modeller might actually make money, as it takes COMPARITIVELY less time to model/paint four similar tanks than a single one...) Perhaps Gavin might make a video upon the subject?
Excellent 'show and tell' and the finished model definitely looks the business.

Cheers Steve the build took about 14 hours in total mainly because of the stowage and figures . And yes i wont get the money for the time put in but the i really enjoy converting these small scale builds . But i have to say i wouldn't do a commission in this scale people wont pay so they will have to wait for a bargain when i sell them . Regards Gav.
Hi Gavin, Nice work! If I didn't know better, I would swear your tank was 1/35. Nice job on those tiny details. Thanks for sharing. Have a great day. Jeff
