Everyone has to admit - that Unreal 4 engine is absolutely gorgeous when combined with competent art direction.
You should see some of the blueprints I have. Sometimes the art covers up bad programming or game design. This game looks like it would give me a headache from all the muzzle flash but aside from that, it's beautiful. I can't wait to fire it up in 4K and see what screenshots look like with a bit of post-processing. Bet you can get them pretty close to the White Dwarf standards.

Yeah someone already slapped my wrist about that but tbh it's great as it proves I did not paint miniatures on a Saturday morning with a beard so long you could hide a walrus inside it.

This looks amazing, been waiting for it's release for a while. However, my only gripe with it, and it's not a criticism because it's the style, is that the storm bolter and auto cannon muzzle flash is epilepsy inducing even when you dont have it.
Glad to have you back! As someone who grew up playing the game as a teen, this is exactly what I saw in my brain when I played. I've been sitting on my preorder waiting to hear the feedback, but all I see when I look at this game is awesome. Glad to hear you're enjoying it Mack.

I have to agree with Mack 110% on this. Everything he says is true. Even the illogical amount of people downrating the game. Not to mention the fact that people had reviews up on Steam literally MINUTES after the game released. So they went there and decided that they will downrate the game anyway. I have lost faith in the gaming community for years now so this doesn't bother me so much other than the thought of people refunding or not even buying the game because some random internet guy downrated it after playing 20 minutes.
I want these devs to get the resources to expand on this game but the COMPLETELY toxic community that have flocked around this game makes it difficult to convince other people to buy and enjoy this.
What they did wrong is not communicate enough that this game and Space Hulk in general has ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with Vermintide. I see so many people getting into Space Hulk trying to find a Vermintide vibe where there should be none. They clearly botched on that marketing factor.
Space Hulk has nothing to do with Vermintide and that's all right, that's what makes a proper Space Hulk game. I know not everyone knows about Space Hulk fluff and this should have been communicated better from the devs so that people knew what game they were getting.
All in all, after a few bug fixing patches this game will be golden. I'm one of those lucky people who didn't have ANY bugs so I hope they can fix those fast and let more people enjoy the game.

Tclans funny thing is that he got optimisation issues with every games he is playing. Totalbiscut got no credibility for me.
Wynx64, Interesting sitenote non the less. Weather or not that may be true, when you look at the guys specs one could ague both ways. Too much crazy stuff under the hood, which games don't use correctly. Or, has the latest and greatest so why would that machine struggle with a game.
But that's not the point, he liked it on the contrary of this review.

I left a negative review on the game because of my below 10 fps on lowest settings I experienced in some rooms and in fights. Fun thing is that during the beta, I rarely went down to 20 fps on highest settings. Something happened and it was not "optimization".

you are the second TH-cam gamer that I like that has approved this one. It's weird, the concept is one I love but there's something about it that screams caution to me even separate from the reported performance issues. One of those games that I think needs a demo version or promotion weekend.

i does get a bit repeditive, its unbelievably repeditive id say, waves and waves of monster all the same i might add coming in where you just stand there and mow them down with your flamethower, really thats definately a thumbs up from me guys im not having any problems on my new system. he has mention his new system every fucking video and gives the specs like he's like bigging himself up. its a linear copy and paste game and what game would be complete without xray vision.
If you were a regular viewer you would see that I get asked my specs every review I do so now I mention them in the video, especially when the game has a bad rep for running so poorly. Sounds to me like you have a problem with people that have decent computers, get over it man. As for the waves of monsters all the same, that is clearly not true, the monsters change considerably as the game progresses.
it feels like the strategy game... on drugs :D loving it big time, and thankfully managed to fix my technical difficulties thus far :) Great game, I admit it could have used a bit more polishing time, but dayum it is immersive and FUN! :)
I'm here in May of 2024. I just bought this game in spite of the review mostly because it was on sale for 5 bucks lol.
awesome cant wait to play it on xb1. took me 15 years to buy a copy of space hulk the board game since seeing it back in high school. Huge potential hope the developers offer a custom snapmap style editor where you could make missions and maps just like with the board game able to design your own maps with the puzzle piece style board design. Even go as far as a random mission generator could be amazing if the devs are serious about beig passionate about it which this time it may appear that way...

As a standalone title, there is nothing wrong with the game Mac. It looks and feels ok, even beautiful at times. But considering that the game relies heavily on Warhammer universe and it's audience and borrows quite a lot from it, it pisses people off because it's only a splinter of what it should be. And Totalbiscuit is an insane fan of this universe as many others are. As a huge fan of the universe he is correct in every single statement he makes in his review because this game has little to do with what it's portrayed to be. I'm not sticking up for totalbiscuit here , I'm sticking up for the WH universe. Otherwise it's an ok game. The people criticizing it are actual fans of the Warhammer series, books, games, tabletops etc..And they are right to bash it. If this game would have had no influences from the WH universe and had a completely different name it would have been at least a semi-success.
It's just like dishonored 2, that game got so many negative reviews on steam from people who just couldn't run it. It worked fine for me on day 1 though and I had fun, i5 6600k and gtx 970 with 16 gigs of ddr 4.

The emprah deserves a game that doesn't have a migraine causing lens flare, clunky combat, restricted loadout ( for a highly decorated librarian who JUST departs from his battle barge I might add... think about it. DId the arsenal run out of weapons? ...

TheUnbeholden Im not making anything up. I played it yesterday and I experienced it to be very clunky, having very annoying lens flare whenever using the guns, the recoil is all over the place, the sprint limit in terminator armor is retarded and unrealistic in regard to 40k lore. The fact that your terminator armoar is also so squishy and taking serious damage from small arms fire is utterly ridiculous as well in regard to 40k lore.
There are a few more reasons. Not to mention the fact that the relics you find you can't even use. You just find em, have a bit of text, thats it. Your squad mates dont react to it, nor does Belial. Its quite lackluster if you ask me.
So yes. Im not having performance issues. MY problem is with the game itself.

If you like it good for you. Enjoy it. I however did not. My impression is as listed above.

I think this is one where the source material forces limited scope. I think it's better to stay true to it, and then price the game accordingly. It ain't worth full price, but it's good for about £20 or so.

Reminds me of SWRepublic Commando with the squad and hive assualt thing; the atmosphere in that was great.
To be honest, I'm one of the people who hammered the game when it was released.
It's not that I'm not a warhammer fan (I actually am one, and I collect and paint the miniatures too). It's more to the fact that the game is simply very poorly optimized at it's launch.
If you're looking to play it in co-op mode then wait til they have put out a major patch. Bad frame rates and game breaking bugs that stop you from using any buttons, and the only person who can see the objective is the host so you are basically wondering around the map aimlessly. Gameplay wise its as shallow as a puddle, with no need for tactics. The bosses are hilarious as they are basically in with the crowd, I expected a left for dead style alert or something of the sort but he just sort of arrives it was only when my mate a war hammer fanatic told me it was a boss that we focused it. In my opinion not worth a buy, though if you really need it then get it in the sale next year.
actually you can play the campaign coop just without the cutscenes. the host has hte ability to set it up in the lobby
hi mack, do you always play your games at 1080p and is that with the gtx 1070?.. maybe this is why you've not been experiencing the frame rate issues that people have been bitching about mate

I am running a 980 ti and ran on 1440p in the alpha and beta with no stutter. It seems that a lot of the complaints are coming from co-op and the host crashing.
i have heavy oced gtx 1060 and playing on 1080p and have drops to 20-45 all the fucking time, and gpu isn't a problem but CPU, game is heavy CPU bound my i5 2500k 4.3ghz is just not enough to play
Maybe people should stop trying to play at meme resolutions their hardware doesn't support properly then?

These are the same guys that made Vermin tide. I thought that was a really really cool game. It's to bad the community dropped off. I would still be playing Vermintide if it had a lot of players. The guys that made this and vermin are really talented. I have this game to and i like it. it has been running good so far. gtx 1070, i7,16gb ram. It does need a little more polish not polish like the people. I was playing today and was having fun and than it crashed. shit i was bummed i wanted to keep playing. i hope the community grows because its a really fun game. i hope it doesn't go by the wayside like vermin did.

I'll likely pick this one up after a few patches have gone out, just incase. I recently updated my hardware and I wanna move up to 1440p next month and it seems like this is what's causing a large amount of frame-rate problems judging from the comments. Thumbs up though, since I normally just skim steam before watching reviews I thought that maybe it was another case of a developer giving their meh game a warhammer paintjob and hoping that'll break even.
By Candlelight 1440p 144hz is the way to go.

The stuttering and crashing is mostly on AMD processors. I was having a lot of problems. Unfortunately my friend backed out and refunded even though it ran fine for him, he said he just didn't like the feel of it, so I did as well. Will probably rebuy at a later date.
i'm an adult and have no problems with epilepsy, but why almost every modern game is an epileptic disaster? No seriously, look at all these blinks and flashes that produced by a firearms. I don't get it. Old games were more eye friendly in such aspects. Smooth camera movement and so on.

Looks like one of those games that people will either really love or really hate. Kinda like how I've been going back to Section 8: Prejudice lately - personally that's a game I REALLY love to death (I loved the first Section 8 but Prejudice is just flat out better) but it sadly didn't click with a lot of people which is unfortunate but what can you do eh?
I'm really liking what I see with this. Sadly my PC can't handle modern FPS games so I'll have to wait for the console version, but yeah, looks good.

But have you even tried it in coop mode? Cause mine went down as far as 14fps at some point.
totally agree with you its a great game it is a great immersion game
i myself have found some crash bugs and a few glitches but i cant say that it ruins the game for me as i know they will sort them out.
but i love most how intense the game is and i think they have done well bringing the space hulk lore to the game i loved the board game and live this game

I don't usually but in some situations I don't take chances, I have had a few near misses with guns coming online so if I know am not going to hack it I destroy it.
I wish I had your PC Mac. I can't get it to run properly on i7-4770k and GTX980. It is a shame because I do think the combat is satisfying.
Btw. FoV can be set manually in the config files , which are located in the AppData folder for some reason.
It's a great game, but it has some problems at least in the rhythm of the game. For example, the immersion is perfect but being constantly attacked by Tyranids does not leave me much time to explore each place in detail and it is a shame not to take advantage of this fantastic level design and implement puzzles to solve for example. More exploration less combat at least for a moment in the game, to break the constant combat rhythm that becomes repetitive (wave after wave of Tyranids).
The art direction is very good, the game is dark, violent, exactly as it has to be W40k, without music and just ambient noise. I hope they continue in this direction.
And one last thing, it would be incredible to have a W40k game as a Cadian soldier. There are already many games of Space Marine and the universe of W40k is very big to cover, they would have to try new things and take more risks.
Alright I can confirm it gets FPS dips occasionally on max settings 1080p. Thats disappointing, but alot of people are getting this on the best GTX 1080 & i7. Maybe its a win8 issue or drivers. Triple A gets slammed regularly on this so I don't see how a fun game should get a free pass on this.
