Hey Mack, you've given me an idea. A PC exclusive called Day of Bantha Piss. You play as a time traveling PC gamer and go back in time to 1966 to stop Ralph Baer from creating the first Console ever, the Brown Box. Yes, I know that's the plot of terminator.
When I saw this it instantly reminded me of the old medal of honor I used to play on play station.
I just thought of Allied Assault, especially on the Omaha Beach map.
moh: allied assault, CoD1 and DoD are very similar in graphics and gameplay.
I went back and played CoD1 multiplayer and it really feels like DoD

Day of Defeat and MOHAA had a baby, well that's just ruddy fine and dandy for me as I played them both to death. Thank god some devs still care about the old school style.

This is what Battlefield 1 should have been in terms of gameplay. See, the big companies understand that we want to go back to historical wars, great, but they don't understand why. It's not just the setting. We remember the WW2 games from the late 90's, early 00's. We remember the gameplay, not just the setting. We are tired of the COD-gameplay that has held fps gaming hostage for so long.
Insurgency is great, played countless hours coop. I'm sure this will deliver too. Coop in games by this developer is so much fun. Just keeping it together with your teammates, fighting off waves of enemies. It's awesome. In insurgency there's that sheer panic when you see a suicide bomber running towards your group, if he gets too close and explodes you can day goodbye to the entire team. Hope the same tension is present in Day of Infamy.
How can you possibly use past tense in a game which has only just had it's alpha wave? I completely agree with your points I just find dismissal of a non released game to be funny.
I understand what you mean but have you seen the gameplay footage? The rapid fast switching, guns that do not belong in that war, just the speed of the combat in general. I really want it to be good but I've list all faith in it after seeing those videos. Just replacing the outer shell of what is essentially CoD-gameplay doesn't mean it's going to play differently. That's my point. Sad thing is, it will still sell more than Insurgency, Red Orchestra and Day of Infamy combined. Good thing perhaps if that most toxic players will be in CoD and BF which keeps the more realistic games free of these kids.
I think its because the Big Companies only focus on the Consoles when it comes to the Gameplay, PC is just used now for the Graphics, if PC is even a consideration at all beyond "another Buck". Consoles these days are primarily used by 12 year olds Casuals who just would not understand How to even PLAY a "Real" Arcade FPS Game (Think the Original "Soldier of Fortune"), let alone a "Real" Tactical FPS/Mil-Sim Game like this one. The Casuals only know how to play Cry On Doody, so the Big Companies just copy Childrens Online Daycare because they know that is what is going to sell well to the Casual Market on the Consoles. The Sooner we get another Industry crash and the Casual market goes belly-up, the better IMO! Bring Gaming back purely to the PC and maybe we can start getting some great Games again!

Hell yeah Mack! We are relics of the past. Stringing LAN cable throughout a friends house, lugging your 500lb CRT monitors, setting it on a tiny ass folding table that barely held the weight. Playing into the night, seeing the sunrise and realizing it was too late to go to bed, must push through and keep playing.
Day of infamy is a reference to the speech Roosevelt gave the day after the Pear Harbor attack, where he started the speech by saying "Yesterday, December 7, 1941 -- a date which will live in infamy -- the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan."

As for where the name came from, it's most likely in reference to United States President Franklin D. Roosevelt's Infamy Speech which was delivered after the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor and urged the US into WWII. (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Infamy_Speech)
It's a pretty powerful speech and I suggest listening to it (it's on youtube and on that linked wikipedia page) at least once if you haven't done so.
For a Source Engine game I think it looks quite damn good actually all things considered. Remember, Titanfall is also a Source Engine game and look how far they pushed that.
"Day of Infamy" refers to FDR's speech in response to Pearl Harbor in which the US entered world war 2. The most memorable line from the speech was "December 7, 1941-a date which will live in infamy".

Mack have you ever played Red Orchestra 2? You cannot review a ww2 game if you haven't played that (well of course you can but you get where I'm going). It seriously is the best ww2 game ever even if it is a bit dated now

Battalion 1944 is based on that concept of re vamping old school games just with updated graphics
I need to be able to configure the skinz on my knife's bottle opener. I want to be able to sell them on a marketplace for a third of a penny, too. Makes me feel good to realize I'm earning real money while I'm playing a game at 0.0001% of the rate I do in the real world.

We don't like to be challenged in any way, so why are you doing so? Why are you taking away that things that other developers have gifted to us casuals that expect instant gratification???
This is an outrage! I for one will be boycotting this game, and I encourage other casuals to do the same.

Not really. I played DOI and RO2/RS and in my opinion DOI is totally different, but it has similar characteristics.
Feels like a poor knock off of Red Orchestra 2/rising storm. Pretty much inferior in every way.

Franklin Delano Roosevelt said "“A Date Which Will Live in Infamy," referring to Pearl Harbor. That is probably what this game is trying to emulate.

They are very different games
Mack, do you know that Insurgency is getting rebuilt in the Unreal engine. It will be called Insurgency: Sandstorm. New World Interactive has recently gained Focus Home Interactive as a sponsor and they're providing the funds to relaunch the game in unreal engine 4 with all the same maps, maybe a few new ones, and a full single player story driven campaign mode.
By the way, would you consider opening a server for Day of Infamy so us the guys guys can play with you on occasion?

You should see "Day of Infamy" now, WaB, since the "beta" update. Improved optimisation, new game modes, Stuka divebombers, P51 Mustangs and all sorts of other aircraft strafing and bombing the teams. Also, the new "health & ammo" parachute drops are top class.

Day of Defeat was one of the best games of the early 00s. It was so incredible. Forever 907th Spc. ShadowWolf of Fox Company! Also at an early glance some of these maps like like carbon copies of DoD maps.

yes. There's no room for bullet drop in Source, especially with how far the devs push the engine in DOI/INS
This isn't COD of BF, the iron sites bounce all over the place when you move and aim. That is the way sights work.
Calipto he means ballistics/bullet drop. The bullets are hitscan, just like INS.

I think the graphics look fine. Everything is well presented, clear, and it's easy to see what matters. The style is consistent and solid. Sure it's not super modern looking, but for what it is they're good.

Infamy in the title for the game seems to be a reference to one of Roosevelt's speeches during WWII where he declares war against Japan for the bombing of Pearl Harbor.
The actual gameplay definitely reminds me of the golden days of CoD 1. Those were good times, eh Mack?

Game releases March 23rd, make sure to review it :D It's soooo much better than when it released, and when it released it was amazing (aside from a few graphical glitches and some other stuff they have since fixed).

Great review..this has gone back to when these games were great...Call of Duty 1 and 2 and Medal of Honor and others. Looks like a must buy for anyone sick and tired of the FPS of today.

Ever played red orchestra 2? That is still to this day one of my favourite WW2 multiplayer shooters.
If you want authentic ww2 experience Red orchestra 2 does it far better than Day of infamy in pretty much every way.

As usual an outstanding review. My friends and I always played Medal of Honor and we immediately said that this game is MOH with flamethrowers!
My only complaint is that the online community has not embraced this game enough. There needs to be more players and it could use some more maps. But, I digress, I can't stop playing the co-op either. I absolutely love it. I agree, worth a buy!

Mac, if you like this type of game check out Red Orchestra 2! It's really fun, tactical, has vehicle support, and 64 man battles. They are also working on releasing a Vietnam version of the game as well

Roosevelt's speech to congress on the day after the attack. Which I suppose makes sense for a WW2 game since that's the main event that put us yanks hot to trot into the fighting.
Sounds similar to Red Orchestra. I hope players aren't all bullet sponges too.
