    Two granddaughters show market pigs in 4-H. We are cattle people and to learn a lot. We get our pigs at two months old for $200 per pig. They are mixed breed. They are delicate creatures and more likely to get skin or respiratory problems , when cows have slight problems. Pigs eat a lot and need to be fed twice a day. Vitamins and supplements are needed . We were told to keep on concrete with wood shavings for hygiene and to keep clean and healthy . They are washed once a week, and pens shoveled out and hosed down and shavings on clean concrete. They are expensive to raise. Have a good time .Siblings can’t be bred ! Need to be from different litters ! One pig per pen , with pen large enough to move around. 😂 We had a lot to learn. Our 12 year old and 6 year old granddaughters love showing , and walk their pigs daily for exercise . They make them tame as a dog. Dale will love them ! They are not cheap to raise. Cheaper to buy pork than to raise it ! No kidding ! They are only shown at shows for one season , as they are only “pig” age for a few months . Enjoy your channel from SE GA USA !

    This reminded me of a story my wife told me about from when she was a little girl. She had a little piglet that she cared for and loved so much. She loved feeding it and spending time with it. Naturally the pig grew and the Tim came when a relative decided they were hungry. She had no idea at the time what her little piglet was destined for, so she cried for a week. She loved her little pig.

    The difference between a spotted pig and a pink pig is that the spotted pig has spots and the pink one doesn't.

    Good morning Tim! Wow, Chrissy has very nice long hair...and of course a smile that could light Los Angeles! Buying a pig...hmm...in my youth, I used to be a farmer. So, how much does it cost to feed a pig? Each piglet recieves 1 lbs of feed...increased weekly by 1/4 a pound until the max of 5 lbs of feed is reached per pig for a harvest weight of 150 lbs. If you want some heavier pigs, you can increase the feed from 5lbs to 10 lbs of feed per pig until the desired weight is achieved (250 plus lbs.). I imagine about $24 USD every 10 to 13 days for 2 growing pigs...but I don't know the true cost of feed there. We used to feed the pigs our food garbage (vegetables and fruits), corn we produced (ground), and commercial feed mixed into swill. So, it was cost effective.

    God I love Chrissy's smile. Tim I know the question you have about that spots had to be joking but when I was a little boy (not Long ago) cough cough I use to think black cows was chocolate milk the reddish cows were strawberry Milk Until my dad ask how many white cows have you seen son I thought about it a while and said non he said that's because all cows only have white milk. My Family raised Pigs chickens had a lot of gardens . . Tim you don't have to feed the pigs just the pig food you can also feed them banana leaves over ripe bananas any veg or fruit that is going bad to them it is a treat . I notices in the Philippines most of the pig pens are small so they pretty much eat sleep yes they get fat but I always had larger pens less fat on the pork means better eating . Some fat on a pig is good but too much fat means less meat .

    Hey Tim what do you think about getting some chickens and letting them live there. You get eggs from them daily and they eat bugs and stuff so its fairly cheap to keep them. Ofcourse you have to Supplement their food with corn also but it should not be nearly as much as pigs.

  • @NIO777
    @NIO777 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Great idea to get your own pork production farm. Get some chickens for fresh egg production too. This now is being flaunted for people in USA and Canada so everyone has eggs for basic food for their homes. PIG VITAMINS? what? Pigs will eat anything give them fruit salads scraps they get vitamins then free.

  • @TheMarky26
    @TheMarky26 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Just remember you can feed those pigs all your leftover table scraps and vegetable and fruit peels too help supplement the food.Fyi you can just feed them regular grain or rice as a food source too instead of buying expensive pig feed..

    Hey Tim & Chrissy, congrats on a new addition to the family! Now it’s time to invite Harald to work at the farm and make a documentary about the basics and benefits of a small business for locals and tourists. Next animals to pick up: chickens! Also, considering how expensive some of the sea foods are and the cost of salmon nowadays, maybe a new business venture like “Tim, the Western Fisherman” would be appropriate! Make it a series, Monday’s - video tutorial about basics of pig farming 🐖, Tuesday’s - 🐟 fishing skills by Tim K, Wednesday’s could be a chicken farm day 🐓, Thursday’s - working with Dad @ coconut farm 🥥, Friday’s - 🛠 home improvements (for Tim) and 🍼 baby Dale daily routine and associated costs (for Chrissy), Saturday’s could be a family entertainment day 👨‍👩‍👦 and Sunday’s are great for privacy 🍻, content editing 💻 and mind + body recharge 🏖 for the following week! Call the series: 🇵🇭 Life in Philippines: The story of Tim and Chrissy(and Dale)!
    P.S. Thanks for sharing Tim, awesome content. Keep the vlogs coming, very entertaining and helps to take the mind away from the daily news about the negativity in the world. BTW, do you have rabbits on the island? 🐇

    GREAT Business! But they SMELL! They also have about 12 piglets per pregnancy! I did a spreadsheet on that business in 2009 when I first arrived. Do some TH-cams on how to farm them as well as how to slaughter them. Although in the Philippines that is much easier than in the USA. Building a larger farm is quite interesting; you'll need a large truck for transport. But in Gen Luna, you may become a supplier of live animals OR better, you make a slaughter area with a carving table. I made one out of cement with slope & troughs to direct the blood, because the locals use it for soup, etc. Good Luck!
