People react to proposed homeowners’ insurance rate hikes in North Carolina

Insurance companies are proposing an average increase of about 42% for homeowners.
The proposed rate increases vary by county. Insurance companies along the coast want to nearly double those rates due to severe weather concerns.
WFMY News 2 talked with the North Carolina Department of Insurance.
They said the rate bureau, which is a separate entity that represents insurance companies, makes a rate-filing request. This process is set out by law.
Now, the public has a chance to weigh in. A public forum was held in Raleigh where people across the state shared their opinions.
