Very satisfying. I usually use a smaller axe/hatchet to cut the roots. I dig around the stump like you then chop around it, tilt the stump and chop under it. I think it's easier to sharpen an axe than the other tools and the axe I use is one I use for rough work and it doesn't need to be very sharp for this kind of work anyway. I don't say you're doing anything wrong just that I do it differently. Good job as always.

use a sharp, heavy PICK-AXE. The curved motion of the swing goes down and under the stump, severing everything below ( which is not usually a lot). Then you get the whole root ball out in four good swings of the pickaxe.
Hi Lina! Yes, she requested I go as low as I could. I ended up cutting the centers of the stumps down to dirt and that way they should definitely die and rot out a lot faster. 👍😁
@@golovinpropertyservices Been there done that, they grow back. Very hearty bush. my Português Laurel has been there 70 years. The only way to get rid of it you have to pull the stumps. I've cut mine to the stumps twice. Today it's 8 ft. tall
@@MrOregonite did you cut the main roots around the stump? I also cut diagonally into the stump right through the core. I did this with 3 birch trees and they all died after the cut.
Why wouldn’t you have just wrapped a chain or a tow strap around the bottom of each bush, hooked it to your truck and pulled them out? Quick in, quick out.

They shouldn't, theres a part in the video where I dug around the stumps and cut off the main roots that I could find when going around the stump. There is a possibility they will grow back, but with the main roots gone, it is less likely.

They will grow back they needed to be completely removed , we put chain on stump and pull out with truck very easy.

After removing the hedges the place look more spacious. The main trunk should remove too bcos the new leaves will grow again.
