This is my favorite book of all time. And I prefer the full novel addition to the film adaptation. Even Rob Lowe said that it bugged him that his biggest scene was cut out, which was the scene when pony boy realizes Sodapop is the one to bring what's left of their family.
What makes The Outsiders really impressive is that it was written by a sixteen year old girl. S.E. Hinton was a tomboy and based a lot of the setting and greasers/socs from her own high school. In fact when she published The Outsiders while she was in college, the publisher suggested using her initials to not have male readers know the author’s a girl. However, as a male reader I thought it was strange how Ponyboy would call his brothers handsome. That’s kind of weird.
tbh I don't think it's weird Ponyboy would call them handsome because Pony has a very soft side and it's his inner dialouge. Maybe it would be weird with another character but not with Pony. and also Pony loves and looks up to Soda a lot and he only sees the good things in him, no surprise he also thinks his brother is so handsome cause he also sees lots of girls fangirl over him.
@@FeggyMin Ponyboy is embarrassed about Soda being a high school dropout though. Ponyboy pretty much has imposter syndrome I think. I mean, he’s a greaser but he does things a greaser wouldn’t usually do like read and get good grades in school. Cherry even points out that a kid like him shouldn’t be a greaser. I also think Hinton took a little bit of herself when she wrote Ponyboy.
@@huntercoleman460 i get what you mean! i think deep down Pony doesn't want to be a Greaser or have that Lifestyle. or what HE thinks a "Greaser" is like... the stereotypical in his eyes. I love how all of them are complex characters. on one hand Pony likes his friends but on the other hand he def. wishes that things were different in his life
i understand pony calling soda handsome, bc its his inner dialogue and stuff. what i found weird was soda calling pony “honey”, and darry calling pony “baby”
the music in the complete novel version is so goofy like no i don’t wanna hear “TraIn tRaIn” while ponyboy and johnny are running away after murdering someone
This this this. I can’t believe how much people defend the Coppola cut and trash the og when the former is practically devoid of tone because of how crappy the score is. If we got this perfect cut it would be proof Coppola isn’t just trolling lol
Wow just found your channel and did not realize there was a second movie for Outsiders. As a 53 year old woman - growing up The Outsiders was my favorite book ever and I remember when the movie was out in theaters. it was the only movie I felt that represented the book perfectly - but I guess I was thinking more how I thought the actors were all cast perfectly. I did not realize as a teenager how so much was cut out of the movie - I am definitely going to have to check out the new version. Thanks for the great video!
I never saw the Full novel movie but I saw the theatrical version, but they both are good, but I didn't care that the theatrical version was missing some parts. So both are like the same, just the full novel movie is longer.
📚 Just finished reading "The Outsiders" by S.E. Hinton! 🌟 This classic novel dives deep into the struggles of the Greasers and Socs, highlighting the harsh realities of class conflict and the search for identity. 🤜🤛 With unforgettable characters and a powerful message, it’s a must-read for anyone who loves a compelling story. ✨ If you haven’t picked it up yet, I highly recommend it! #TheOutsiders #BookReview #MustRead #S.E.Hinton
I think Francis Ford Coppola made a mistake in making all the cuts that he did in the theatrical cut, and then when he corrected that mistake he made another big one by messing with the soundtrack. I have never watched a movie and so desperately wanted to change the soundtrack myself so badly. The entire soundtrack to the complete novel version was so atrocious and awful. In some scenes you can’t even hear what the characters are saying.
i wanted to scream every time i heard that music. not only did it not fit, it was also repetitive and annoying. like it would literally just go on loop lol
@@trash_can6780 I might pay someone to take my copy of the complete novel version and edit the theatrical movie soundtrack back in. Then you would have the perfect outsiders movie.
@@trash_can6780 I mean, it just really pisses me off on a number of different levels. I really can’t forgive Francis Ford Coppola for this. That soundtrack JOLTS you out of the movie, not just takes you out of it. It’s like he can’t do anything right when it comes to The Outsiders, he always needs to have some way to fuck it up.
@@strongrex2615 I also feel the movie made Ponyboy less of an interesting character. Since the book is told from his point of view, we see his monologue and how much he looks up to Sodapop and how he has a bit of an artistic streak in him since he can draw and write. Ponyboy in the movie has some of that but not a lot.
Thank you for this video. I really enjoyed it. I only recently read the book. I saw the movie when it was originally released in theaters. Also I saw the original cut multiple multiple times on HBO and renting it on VHS and now I own the DVD. So, I have a LOT of nostalgia for the theatrical version. I recently saw the extended cut of the movie. And while it does fill in the gaps of the story, I just don't like it as much. I like the book a lot. I never was much of a reader, but, I can now see why people like the second cut of the movie. For me, I kind of like that everything isn't so fleshed out in the original cut. You don't need all the information. I like that there is a little mystery about some of these characters. The main point of the story is Stay Gold. So I don't really need all the other details. I think the original cut tugs at your heart strings a little more the way it was edited and put together.
The music in the new version is so off that it takes you away from the drama and intensity. It’s pretty distracting, they should have kept the original music.
Idk what yall are on about, i like the complete novel sound track way better, even if some of it is a bit goofy. I think the new music adds more intensity to some scenes but thats just my opinion.

Someone needs to edit the complete novel with the theatrical cuts soundtrack. Then it’d be pretty much perfect
I’d like to pay someone to do that to my copy.
Yeah the music changes is the only thing I don’t like about the complete novel version cause it changes the whole feeling of the movie.
the music in the complete novel version is so goofy like no i don’t wanna hear “TraIn tRaIn” while ponyboy and johnny are running away after murdering someone
I honestly like it more. In the theatrical cut, when dallys running from the cops, the music is too calm and relaxing imo

If you get the chance, you may want to compare the musical version as well.
I would like to have a book but what is the prize of the OutSiders book
So the complete novel movie is the most similar to the book?
Yes. The theatrical cut is missing key scenes from the book.
Hi my son has 2 different versions of the movie and 1990s tv series based on the the film and the book too
I haven’t had a chance to watch the tv series yet. Did you enjoy it?

I read this in my 8th grade English class all the books I read in high school were garbage
“Romantic sunset scenes” …😐😶
Nothing GoldEN can stay?
