I went to the movie when it came out in 1983....I was 25....I felt old....everyone there was 15-18. I just bought the movie from Amazon with the added 22 minutes. When Francis Coppola directed the movie....I believe he filmed it March through May 1982 and then filmed Rumble Fish which also starred Matt Dillon right after that. Also filmed in Tulsa. Kept the filming crew right there.
@@mrsbhanleyed Francis Coppola also gives the author Susan Hinton a cameo appearance in the movie as a nurse and his young daughter Sofia at the Dairy Queen asking Dally for money neither of which are in the book.
I did know that S.E. Hinton made the cameo as the nurse! Coppola did an amazing job with the film; staying as close to the novel as possible, while also showing some amazing cinematography.

Ponyboy is 14 years old. Johnny is 16 years old. Takes place in the 60's in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Great book.
Fantastic book! Every year I've taught it, I find myself in a class debate about who is older: Johnny or Ponyboy 😂 thanks for clearing it up.

I've always been amazed that the Outsiders was written by a 16 year old girl. And I've admired her ever since.
