I've never used a electric plane. I've watched Lou on Tips From a Shipwright work magic with one and I've been intrigued. I'm absolutely interested in seeing what you come up with
As messy as your shop might be, I can guarantee that mine is worse. To get from one side to the other, I had to go out one door, walk through the house and back into the shop from another door. My neighbour saw me doing this and was laughing at me.
I feel your pain on shop mess/clutter. I have half of a 2 car garage for my "shop". I have way too many tools, gadgets, fasteners, supplies, etc. Every time I want to make something I have to clean and organize it. My wife says all I do is clean it and it feels like that's all I do. I need to get rid of some stuff or something.
It's been on my mind lately to get a cordless planer so I just checked homedepot and they have that Makita planer for $159 and it comes with a 3Ah battery and the normal charger. The normal price is $197 just for the planer. This is for the HD's around Hamilton. I don't know how well a 3Ah would do on a planer but I've got a few 4 and a 6 Ah batteries. I've got the corded Dewalt and it works well but I really like small cordless tools.
Does Makita still make 3ah batteries, or are these older stock? To be honest, though, I can't say I've noticed a big difference with the higher ah batteries. If they last longer, it isn't by a remarkable amount. Another thing that I heard that may or may not be true is that these major brands do special runs for the big box stores to provide products at a lower price point. So the tool you get at HD may not be as well made as the one you'd buy at a smaller tool store.
@@IBuildItScrapBin I've still got one 3Ah from 2004 but I never use it. I'm not sure about the ones hd carry, if they're old stock or not. Maybe they want to get rid of them. I only use the 6Ah on my circular saw and angle grinder and use the 4's on the two drills. Once in a while the 6 is good for run time but I could get away with a 4 for most of my cutting. Last October I bought Milwaukee's new M12 drill and then a month later they were selling almost the same drill. It looked identical but the product number was off by a bit and it was a lot cheaper. I think it was made just for hd for their xmas sales.
I bought a blue one a while back and like it. Great for roughing firewood into planks before using shop floor tools. I now have both Dewalt and Mikita batteries and an adapter to use the Dewalt batteries in makita tools. Years ago I had Milwaukee drills- 3 out of 3 went bad for one reason or another- that’s when I moved on
I used to stress about keeping my Garage workshop tidy. I guess it felt like an extension of my house so I included it in my "living" space. Now that my shop is in a detached building I let it get out of hand between projects.
I got a used makita power planer to use as a small jointer by making a "precision" bed and mounting it in (that's on TH-cam!). Still haven't got around to that but it did come in really handy when making a workbench with not super long 2x6's that had gone a bit bowed
As much as I would love to see something mobile, (put on table saw and use), I think integrating it into the miter saw station would make for an interesting video
The one tool that impressed me over other brands is the Milwaukee M18 fuel surge impact driver. I have the Makita and like it a lot but the Milwaukee is so much smoother, way quieter and works at slow/partial speed. I should look into getting a cordless planer, seems like it could be useful.
I need to start to use my electric planer... But I'm kinda afraid of it. 😬 About the batteries, there should be adapters in the market... Or at least to 3d print! It would help a bunch! Anyway, stay safe there with your family, John! 🖖😊
Your shop can't be any worse than mine! Mine is a mess and will remain that way until Spring when I can open the garage door and 'sweep' with the leaf blower!
It's hard to describe sometimes how messy a shop can get, but I appreciate your effort, and I'll give you a solid A for the description. A+ if it never happens again :))
If it interests you a shop tour that covers the cabinets and storage around the shop could be an easy video. Not the contents of the cabinets but their function. Glad you are able to relax video production. More walking videos would be awesome too.
Did you see that they started posting all the New Yankee Workshop videos here on TH-cam? There are even a couple new episodes with the producer and Norm in the shop talking about the show. It's pretty darn cool. I wish the video quality was better. Was it that bad back when they came out? Or does it just not translate well to modern technology?
I don’t want to be a negative Nancy here (I’ve enjoyed your content for many many years). However the audio in this video was very muffled. I had to crank up the volume almost all the way to the max just to hear what you were saying. Just wanted to throw my 2 cents of constructive feedback, because if no one says anything, nothing will change.
Hello!
Hello there.
Hi there.
I have the same Makita corded planer. I have been using it for over thirty years.
I've never used a electric plane. I've watched Lou on Tips From a Shipwright work magic with one and I've been intrigued. I'm absolutely interested in seeing what you come up with
His easier cheaper method for steam bending isn't very common, I still see people build a box to get into steam bending.
Hello.
@@FearsomeWarrior 😋
I especially like the drain pipe handle/dust ejector modification.
@@nathanmitchell4839 That video introduced me to Lou's channel.

Great video and agree tools are tools
Dewalt does have a battery-operated planner. I have one, and it is great.
I used to stress about keeping my Garage workshop tidy. I guess it felt like an extension of my house so I included it in my "living" space. Now that my shop is in a detached building I let it get out of hand between projects.
I have the battery powered Dewalt hand plane. I use it for work and for woodworking. Only complaint about it that it’s noisy.
Thanks

The title's killing me, and the look. 😁🤣🤣 Nice one John. 👍
Before I bought my CNC I thought I could organize and clean while it was running. It does help but not enough for me😂

I saw that.
And yeah, that was TV back then - 4 x 3 standard definition and no one complained.
I HAVEN'T bought any new tools...and I'm not cleaning anymore either!! 🤣
strange video, abrupt ending. That's what I like about John!🤨
A messy shop- I get it. When it’s at the point you feel like you have to do Parkour to get around and find something.😐
Talking battery tools, universal batteries are supposedly coming out for all main tool suppliers. Who knows when .
Bad idea. Standardization might seem like a good thing, puts the brakes on innovation.
Love to listen to you chewing the fat 👍
9:10 For someone who isn't into talking about tools, you sure just talked about tools for quite a while.

Come on, let me get a peak….I just wanna see it. I won’t touch. I’ll show you my messy shop if you show me yours. 😂😂😂
