  • I've finally mastered the perfect recipe after trying various versions, and today, I'm excited to share it with you. As I prepare a delicious dish known as Taco Slop using canned ground beef, I guide you through the step-by-step process of crafting these tortillas from scratch. The recipe includes a mix of flour, baking powder, salt, avocado oil, and warm water, with a crucial resting period for the dough. I'll show you how to roll out the tortillas paper-thin and cook them to perfection in a skillet. It's a warm and cozy cooking experience, perfect for a snowy day. Join me on this homestead journey and embrace the joy of creating your own tender and flavorful tortillas at home.

Success story: I ran to the kitchen, used your recipe, and wow! The flavor and texture were both great. I placed the left overs in a zippered bag in the fridge. Over the next several days I zapped one for ten seconds in the microwave before adding filling. The results were perfect. They were flexible, easy to roll up, and held together without ripping. By the way, they work well for various sandwich fillings too. Thank you so much!

Once you try a fresh tortilla store bought just won't due. Thanks for the recipe.

GREAT NEWS - My grandmother made tortillas from scratch almost daily and she has passed on but my aunt shared with me you can put the dough in the fridge wrapped in saran wrap and even freeze some of the dough for a couple of weeks. This is great news because I like my tortillas fresh and you can make two or three and tomorrow morning take enough dough and make another one or two for your meal. I tried it and it works great.

I have watched a number of videos on making tortillas and you are the first to add the resting of the dough to the recipe. I have made tortillas my whole life and the rest is a natural part of any good bread process. The only thing you do different is rolling it out with flour, I was taught to lift and turn the dough. It adheres to the counter but isn't sticky and lets go perfectly. My recipe is 4 cup of flour base which is easy to split for small batches. I am a Lifeskills teacher and we did 'Tortillas 101' virtually during the covid break. I really enjoy watching you and Todd live your day to day lives. You were frequent 'guest' comentators inmy classroom.

I will be making my own tortillas from now on too . Love watching your videos.

Rachel you can also take a cloth towel folded in half and put your tortillas inside and that keep them warm, then after you eat the ones you need, then put the rest in the plastic bag and keep them in the fridge.

I used your previous tortilla video to help me figure out how to make my first batch a few weeks ago. I about sent my husband to the store to get some because I didn’t think I could do it, but I am determined to make our bread items from scratch this year. Love homemade tortillas so much more! I have 4 little boys 7 down to 1 and they enjoyed them as well as my husband. Thank you!

Now I’ve made my share of homemade tortillas from a Mexican cook book that I found years ago. I don’t make them often. I buy small ones that are low carb. Sometimes I get low carb spinach tortillas.

You can also freeze your tortillas and bag them in a ziplock by the dozen. This is really convenient if you want to make a bunch all at one time. 👍🏻

Awesome! I learned how to make tortillas at 11 years of age. My mom made them everyday. I'm 70 years of age now. Boy do I miss my mom's homemade tortillas. I don't make them anymore as my hands can't handle it anymore.
