Good interview Gioia, The Johnnys were first support for the Iggy Shows back then, Spencer and I were outside Iggy's dressing room at the Tivoli when he walked out puffing on a cigar butt, Jonesy had an unlit ciggy in his mouth and asked Iggy for a light, Iggy flicked the butt at him and said "I shit on your nose" SPJ picked it up and lit his ciggy, we ended up trading it for a couple of drinks at the bar after the show. I thought the bass player was kinda friendly but realised he was trying to pick me up which freaked me out no end. SPJ and I got into a fight at the Newcastle gig after we played, fighting for our lives in front of Rob Younger as the New Christs played on, we did the next show at The Family Inn with black eyes, Anthony Healey is right, they did the Batman Theme 7 times, the band were all shaking their heads and yelling "no, no" every time Iggy asked them to play it again. Can't wait to see Chris at the Link and Pin, I'll be playing in the support band

I saw that first Iggy tour - at the Prairievale Tavern in far western Sydney of all places - and can vouch for the 'ordinaryness' of Iggy's backing band The Christs were of course excellent. Iggy was a little bit odd, at one point he said something like "If you're (the public) are going to be so boring, I'll turn my back to you for the next song." Which he did. Much later, at a Birdman show in Ulm, Germany (2007), John Needham told me that at a show during that first tour (The Family Inn?) Iggy got a bit sulky and did the same song multiple times, possibly for the whole gig - my memory is a bit vague on the details. Pity I can't post my excellent photo from the Tavern gig here.

He used the Batman theme as a weapon of crowd destruction on that tour.
