Love the two way split, brilliant. I have a 4 foot stroke ram that I have earmarked for a log splitter, I was thinking of cutting it down. Not now, you have just given me the perfect solution to my dilemma. Thanks for taking the time to share your machine. Cheers from John. Australia.
Thank you gentlemen! you guys inspired the refining of my now homemade Log splitter. (one of my first welding projects). Watching TH-cam videos, and seeking Google photos consumed many-- hour. My two-way splitter is SO cool! This I-beam mounted, with cylinder mounted exterior of the frame was one of my favorites. I hope to post a video with show of appreciation. Thanks again. It's gratifying to make your own:) You may want to watch the hydraulic oil temperature.
Ricky, that is one fine piece of machinery! GREAT use for some old riding lawn mower parts! VERY efficient and well made. Rock on brutha, you are a true American!
that's a sweet rig man.. love the way the sled slides so smooth.. I bet I could heat a house or two with that setup.. great job..nice work and all that stuff
Like the 2 way splitting action, good to have son with you. Very nicely build, Mine build 1979 was 6 ton rebuild 2013 to 25 ton all big metal same from 6 ton, new engine 17 hp lines 3/4" cylinder 30 "x 4" control valve, 22 gal/min 2 stage pump, was noticing heat build up so added a 30 gallon tank for hydraulic fluid, heat not as bad now. My wedge is 16" hi fixed, pusher is 8" hi with rollers on bottom, sandwiching upper flange of 8" I beam and a 12 volt electric winch on swivel boom with timber dogs no more picking up big stuff for old man, can place and hold up to 3 foot diameter stuff ( did it just to test boom) cut 3 foot diameter stuff in 1/2 then boom up. all my wood 22" long max 15" min length. pecan in picture by name
Very nice design. I can see that you guys can get alot of wood split with this log splitter. I really like the idea that you used what was available to you. You really used your heads on this two way design. Thanks for sharing.
I noticed your wedge is removable if your interested in my thought I would fab up a + 4 way wedge to make those bigger pieces go even quicker!! awesome job
Good rig. Sugg: I would raise the faces of your sled and like someone else said, weld some strips on the face and grind them sharp to keep wood from popping up. Don't pay any attention to the safety Nazis, they are on every forum. More people die falling down their front steps than do from splitting wood.
we have a two way splitter as well but the axe head moves instead of the table. 3pth mounted so we never have to worry about oil temp getting too high.
you can put two fairly thick iron plates one per side of the splitter so that it is easier to cleave airing wood I give you a tip only to the great deal of u it ... :)
Don't "you" know. Pulling is not the same force as pushing. Though it is faster. eg 2000psi pump, 4 inch cylinder bore. Out pressure is 25,133 pounds. Retracting pressure you take away the area of the rod. eg. 1 3/4 inch rod in a 4 inch cylinder would give a retracting pressure of 20,322 pounds. 4 fifths the pressure but moves 1 fifth faster. Fantastic splitter, I really enjoyed this.
The sliding saddle design is spot on!

That's efficiency right there. Two great motivators, starvation and winter.
not being very mechanical i always am impressed by people that can make things like this.
Nothing short of pure genius. Cuts on the way out and the way back. Probably better than any you will find in any store at any price!
You did a great job on your splitter . Best design i have ever seen. The commercial guys would envy this one...many thanks for splitter schooling...

Definitely one of a kind, thinking outside the box here. It gets the job done thats what counts. Way faster than a typical splitter.
Great job!! i love the two stroke motion. Going to modify mine now!!
thanks!
very very nice work I like that, it splits them both ways so there is no downtime or waiting for it to reload itself.
Nice machine! Thanks for posting that!
Best design ever for a horizontal spliter.Best to split in timber when getting wood though. Thanks for the video.
I like the two way splitting stroke, very fast and effective. Nice job.
Very innovative design. No wasted motion. Now all you need to add are side tables on the sled. Take care. Doug

That's the best one every. the fact it make use of the movement... gona have ta make one myself!
Alan
I've seen ones like this where the knife goes back and forth, but the pusher cradle loos pretty slick. Nice splitter!
Great safe machine. Better than that fast supersplitter they have on the market. Great job!
Outstanding design! Thanks for sharing
I noticed your wedge is removable if your interested in my thought I would fab up a + 4 way wedge to make those bigger pieces go even quicker!! awesome job
Awesome design. They should make all splitters work both ways.
Brilliant machine, very simple doing this work and quick i love this gadget.
Great idea, nice log splitter
Excellent splitter, think i will copy that ;-) Love your mountainview, wish we had that here i flat Denmark :-D
she does a good job, nice splitter
best ever design...hello from Ireland
Great Idea! I'd make the backplates a little higher to keep the wood from popping out the back though.
wow it's the best one i have seen
Nice! great and simple idea:)
LOVE IT.....any further details would be awesome....Thank you.

Awesome video. You guys are great. Very talented. Maybe make a 4-way splitter to drop in for the big pieces too? Nice job guys.
I love the vice grip throttle fix. Haha.
Ye that's a cool idea will put that design to good use nice one mate
Regards from Scotland
I for one would love to see the build on that bad girl,,,,, Son ya done good
Ingenious. I would put some weld bead on the face of your pusher plates to keep the wood from popping up.
nice setup mate
Very cool splitter. What is the carriage off of? Thanks for sharing.
Beautiful.
awesome best idea iv'e seen
runs like a champ
if you had a foot pedal you could operate that and still use both hands
nice job! do you have a 4way wedge for it?
Really nice machine
You men need to market that beast.
brilliant!
nice work guys
Nice work fellers
Good design, that is a lot of wood!
Good rig. Sugg: I would raise the faces of your sled and like someone else said, weld some strips on the face and grind them sharp to keep wood from popping up. Did you make all the moving parts to this splitter?
Nice!!
very nice spitter
nice design 2 for one someone was thinking
Nice splitter....
Ricky...great design... wondered how long and large of a log can you split?
Nice design.little taller back plate is what I would like to see.
very clever design, with 2 people you can really run through some wood.
You should draw plans and sell them, I would love to have a set
Well done fellas .... Motor could use a tune though ..... :)
What you do with the ice grips ? Attach to the governor? Does the oil get hot with only such a small resirvour?
Very cool
Sweet !!!!!!!
we have a two way splitter as well but the axe head moves instead of the table. 3pth mounted so we never have to worry about oil temp getting too high.
love u need to build four way on each side
Very Nice
how hard would it be to make a slip on 4 way wedge?
Great splitter one of the best I have seen what is the sled part from looks heavy!
58belvedere just a 16 in h beam 1/2 thick
ricky cupp rd
nice rick.
Nicely designed and fast but dangerous like hell....hands are dangerously passing where they should not....
What kinda moonshine do ya feed yer camera?
Good lad ewd lad good splitter
genius.
How did you attach the cradle to the h beam boy this is nice
How does someone not lime this
Jealous maybe? Good job boys
that's slicker than a snot on a hens lip
you can put two fairly thick iron plates one per side of the splitter so that it is easier to cleave airing wood I give you a tip only to the great deal of u it ... :)
Nice
U need to make the sides higher but great job
very cool ricky any idea how much she cost in material
around 700 but its over 30 ton
Rick could you get a picture of how you integrated the wedge into the I beam. Also what did you use to keep your slider on the I beam
I like alot , how much travel does your cyl have
30 in
:) good
very nice splitter. How does it work with red , white or water oak ??
Gerald C thats about all we split
that is white oak
I like this.
Is it noticeably weaker on the ram retracting side than on the ram pushing side?
I cant tell any difference in or out
Don't "you" know.
This is a nice splitter but I'm going to build a big one
No matter what method/machine is used to split wood its still back breaking work.
yes
Watch your fingers !
hello Sir, nice log thingy, you got there. My name is Hank and i sell propane and propane accessories...
Nice action but having to place the logs in that fashion with no protection is an accident waiting to happen.
and the pick-up never fills up, disappearing wood
