    Hi Daniel!!😀😀
    The old splinter has had a good life. But it is definitely time for a new engine. It's cheaper to just get a new one than it is to try to rebuild the old one. It would be nice to have the pile of wood that the old girl split over the years.
    Take care my friend!!😀😀

      Yes it would be cheaper but it would be fun to rebuild it.some times having fun is better than going quick and cheap. My fortay is the Mazda Rotary engines so this would be my 1st piston engine I have been involved in rebuilding..

    The beauty in this splitter us it's 1) through feed ...with a multi way wedge it's just a straight push through. 2) it's low height is excellent for winching logs over it infact I bury mine in millings sometimes just to roll logs onto it just clp.a stick to the hand lever and it's easy to operate and you'll never drop a log on your foot I've got several splitters one I have is an old mackinaw like this...it absolutely spanks my new Huskee horiz/ vert splitter it's literally three times faster than the huskee....in the same window of time there's 3 times the wood produced

    • @DanielAtkinsFirewood
      @DanielAtkinsFirewood  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have thought about adding or making a 4 way wedge but didn't think it would have the power to do it. Especially with the knotty stuff I tend to get..

    I have the twin to your splitter! Mine is 25 years old. It splits about 5 chords of hardwood every year. The only parts I have replaced are the muffler and a spark plug. The Mobil 1 5w30 oil is changed at the end of the season each year. I do have one suggestion, turn the carburetor mixture screw out just a tad so the engine will stop "popping."

    The pronounciation for that engine on your old splitter is: Ta-come-say or Ta-come-see. Either one of those pronounciations will keep the mechanic at the small engine repair shop from throwing you onto the ground and stepping on you. One can never be too careful these days! Great old machine and it looks like it was well cared for. Keep up the great work Daniel!

    That's a classic splitter for sure. Northern Hydraulics is now Northern Tool. That engine is an old Tecumseh (like the Indian) If you want to put a new engine on it, put a Predator from Harbor Freight on it. A very cheap and dependable Honda clone. Thanks for sharing. Hi Daniel - it's Big Rodders in Ireland. Interesting machine. The low height of the work table would be a killer for me - I'd have it up on a platform. That knotty softwood is what I have to deal with most of the time and it tests any machine. This morning I was lucky enough to get about 1.5 cords of the best load of ash I've ever had. I bucked it up on site and I'm now about to start splitting back at my place. Keep on Splitting!

    • @DanielAtkinsFirewood
      @DanielAtkinsFirewood  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes the deck is low on this one but thats ok I dont use it that offton as the Champion is better on the back and has a faster cycle time.

    I have a similar Northern Hydraulics log splitter, except mine has a Wisconsin Robin engine, and it seems to be built a little more solid than yours. The pump, lovejoy and other parts are the same. I got it from my dad, it hadn't ran in 10 years and started on the second pull!

    • @DanielAtkinsFirewood
