An Architects Own Home With An Incredible Internal Courtyard (House Tour)

- Casa Piva is a small yet layered architects own home defined by a slow revealing of spaces and experiences. Andrew Piva, Project Architect and Director at B.E. Architecture, refers to his home as a labour of love - it is simultaneously warm, inviting and highly functional thanks to the use of Tuscan Oak as a surface material.
From the street, the family home doesn’t reveal too much of itself. However, upon entry, one is met with an intriguing and experiential journey through spaces that are designed around a series of small courtyards. The foremost entry into the architects own home takes place through a modest-sized door from the laneway, where one is greeted by a large and intricate brick courtyard with trees coming up through apertures in the roof - a scene reminiscent of an Italian villa. As well as providing a generous space for the dwelling, it also serves as a functional space to park cars.
Once inside, Casa Piva reveals a compressed, dark and moody ambience. This slowly transitions as you journey through the architects own home. The first glimpse of the kitchen, which is adorned with Tuscan Oak joinery, reveals the warmth and comfort the casa brings forth. The home is compact but features generously sized rooms. Within the residence are three bedrooms as well as a study, which doubles as a TV room and guest bedroom and reveals the residence’s flexibility. The master bedroom is larger and cocooned in timber.
Central to the allure of the architects own home is the extensive use of Evenex Tuscan Oak from Elton Group, which is the hero material for surfaces and joinery. Affordable and the most authentic and realistic printed woodfibre timber surface, Tuscan Oak from Elton Group is already sealed and lacquered and has a textured grain that beautifully bounces light off its surface. Andrew uses the material innovatively across wall panelling, joinery, doors and other surfaces, changing the direction of the veneer so it becomes a distinct feature of the interior spaces. The effect imbues a unique blend of warmth, texture, complexity and classicism.
Andrew and B.E. Architecture worked to create the architects own home, a residence that feels calm, warm and balanced. This is achieved through the use of Tuscan Oak as a core surface material among a considered selection of materials, a beautiful art collection and a pared-back interior design approach.

This home has achieved most modern homes can't... it creates interesting spaces with ease. Like it's not trying too hard. Absolutely brilliant.
My favourite B.E. ARCHITECTURE home. It feels like a warm hug.
0:10 secs. That right there, in my opinion, is perfection.
I’d LOVE to live here. Somehow feels so warm and cozy, in spite being minimalist and austere.
Beautiful home. Quiet and peaceful. I love the honey-coloured oak throughout. It has a mid-century fell to it but then takes off into a simplified version of it. Just beautiful!
Finally an architect that didn't dribble crap endlessly. Enjoyed this one
WOW! That brick is STUNNING!
Thanks! Those are our National Masonry 10.117 Smooth Alabaster - made proudly in Victoria at our Deer Park manufacturing plant.
@@NationalMasonryAustralia So beautiful! 😍
This kind of incredible home seamlessly connects indoor and outdoor living, fostering natural light and a sense of tranquility. It's so peaceful in any corner. 🥰🥰
Me encanta la elegancia serena y un poco introvertida de esta casa
A simple and peaceful dream house. Great tour!
idk how you guys stays so consistent, but thank you and much love from the U.S.
The first thing I noticed was the ingenious way light was brought into the house! I didn't notice any windows on the exterior surfaces, only in the inner court yard, and yet the house has an adequate amount of interior light. You might want to market this design to security conscious clients.
Can we see the bird ring light on please?
What a neat, beautiful white oak house.
Absolutely impeccable interior design. Very inspiring.
My favourite so far. Stunning
Finally an Australian architect that speaks normally not like 99% of the other architects showcased on this channel who speak in an endless series of "architectural cliches".
Amen. Im so tired of the dribble
Really love this house, concrete outside and timber on the inside
Stunning detailing. Astronomical budget no doubt.
Stunning design outcome and a beautiful family home ❤
What an astonishing home 😍
Bring about profound beauty from the materials and the architecture. Splendid and candid.
I love when houses make paneling cool!
I love a lot of the ideas but it's really beige. Beige.
best one yet imo
I saved this vid. Going to build a home and steal some ideas. Its so amazing...thought out.
Beautiful project
This is the sort of perfection i crave for the house is absolutely one of the best i've seen
Masterful handling of light. Very rare nowadays
stunning yet emtpy and cold
1000% my style!!!
Beautiful project 🔥
It's stunning.
This one right here is inarguably aesthetically stunning 🤩
Amazing project!
Love it all! Job well done!
Thank you, Sir!
Courtyard homes are my favourite style! Beautiful finishes. Nicely photographed 7 minute Tim-bah commercial 😉
너무 멋져요
흰색과 베이지의 인테리어와 집을 좋아하지만 이것 또한 나의 워너비가 될 것 같다
Stunning❤
From Japan. Wonderful!!!!
Awesome Work!
Love this one 💯
Beautiful 🙌
Wish we could see more of the house and not just the structural aspects. 😊
You can tell this home is created by an arcitect without the involvement of a landscape architect 😃 house looks nice, but for me there should be much more vegetation 🙂
Vegetation is not important to a lot of people. They also require a lot of maintenance and water. Also depends on the climate you live in I suppose
Yeah, I also think it needed more vegetation, I just love to see the grass, lots of trees and plants in a house.
Also a designer. I've never seen such a plain interior of a home. And I like minimalism!!
It looks nice now, but one day those little trees will get bigger. They will have extensive root systems. Those roots might start to lift the foundation because the trees were planted RIGHT next to the house.
Climate depends on the vegetation too.
Amazing! - Love this house!
Us too!
Wow.....very nice indeed...such discipline in the follow through... from the arch/build...its the Architects own home phenomina......no 'pinterest' image to muddy the water

When there's not enough vegetation where I live I easily feel drained and drying out
What a great looking home! All it’s missing for the “perfect picture”, is a classic Porsche parked in the brickyard 😉
Must feel so proud of your home!
too proud
I barely could hear what he was saying, the mic was flunctuating. A phenomenal home.
Your car parking area is nicer & BIGGER than my whole house!!
Hello, @TheLocalProject
What is the name of the artist playing the guitar music in the background?
This is yet another gorgeous installment on your channel!
Thank you!😍
🥰🥰👍👍👍👍welches Material hat der Fußboden in der Küche?????
Casa Diva
Its so creepy ! I love it !
interestingly, the birds will change colour from white to grey. due to the dust over time.
what the lense use for this video ?? wide, but no distortion
Hello, I got concerns with the video, the sound seems pretty low, despite my max volume or is it just me. I hope the volume would be enhance and fix. Thanks.
Very striking and elegant, but dare I ask how a family actually lives there? Are there maids quarters in the basement?
Awesome work, what's the color of the brick
It's our Alabaster 10.117 Smooth, made locally in Deer Park, Melbourne Australia :)
🤩🤩🤩
Phenomenal house! What size and type of brick was used?
We're very happy you like them - those are our National Masonry 10.117 Smooth Alabaster - we love 'em too! :) The size is 390mm long x 40mm high x 90mm deep, made of solid concrete locally in Melbourne, Victoria
Nice materials danish brick is a good move. Would like to see plans
Glad you like it! Danish Brick style made right here in Melbourne by us :)
Surprisingly barren house, neighbours have a tree, but only 1 tiny tree in garage area. Lovely wood, but a very empty depressing house.
what is the sqm?
Beautiful House, I counted 4 trees in total Where is the courtyard?
you may have forgotten to press play.
Exhausting.
It is indeed a well designed house, no doubt about it: impeccable, clinical minimalist style with attention to minute details similar to John Pawson (check even the way he stacked up his white books in perfect, right angle). It is a singular house for a singular person or people (I wonder if children are allowed). I thoroughly enjoy watching architecture design videos but quite often I ask if it is "embarrassing" to show the reality of how the end users make use and appropriate the space differently from what was envisioned by the architect. I mean, for this particular project it is fully comprehensible since both the end user and the designer are the same but there are a lot of other projects that I have noticed that prior to filming or photographing the interior has been staged and the end users have disappeared.
It's lovely, but only a bloke would separate the loo and the basin - you have to open the bathroom door before you can wash your hands!
How do these architects afford these houses???
You have to be a director, everyone else cant under that.
la chaleur? où ça ? j'ai trouvé cette maison triste et chichiteuse complexe et sans magie.
full of the silence
Courtyard without green space? No large artwork?🤷🏾♂️🤷🏼♀️
A garage.....
First time your video shows a wood work catalog only instead of showing the actual space and layout of the house.
Nearly all these modern homes suffer from 100 different shades of beige.
Much too cold and stark for my taste. It is minimalist taken to the extreme.
I usually enjoy houses you show us. But if you want to really be genuine, stop using all those grey/beige filters. Yes, it is nicer with filters, but we want to see a real stuff.
Lighter wood would've been a better choice. House feels too dark especially if you're calling this a family home where kids will be living in it.
Se respira soledad en esa casa 👎
This building is wholly geometric, nothing soft, too much stone, even the tiles look the same.
Looks uncomfortable and the courtyards are boring. Hardly any personality 😐
Frugal to a fault .
A botanophobic project.
This accent 🥴
Hmmm, I don't like it
SHOW MORE … TALK LESS
I'm not a fan. For me, it comes across as impersonal, unfriendly, devoid of emotion & uninterested. I hate windows I can't see out of, it makes me feel claustrophobic. The courtyward needs tonnes more greenery. The interior feels totally manafactured & absent of character. It feels aloof & comtemptuous toward any joy & warmth.
Not a fan of this one - overbearing and moody, can’t imagine smiling much in this place
Wonderful
