    I tried these a few times but just couldn't get the trees to a state where I was super happy with them. I did, however, save all the excess crystals for my terrain pieces.

      Yer it's all about luck with the way the crystals form. Ive had a few form super uneven But I kind of leant I to that as nature offten does what it likes not what looks good. But I'm also keen to see what else you come up with for them in other terrain builds!

      Maybe there are too many other minerals in your water. Is it tap water? Maybe go with distilled?

    How long do the crystals last? Do you get more crystals if you leave it for longer than 24 hrs? (It’s gorgeous, by the way!😊)

    • @SebMakesStuff
      @SebMakesStuff  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Well I made mine like 2 months ago and they are still going strong. The only thing that I've seen that will break them down is boiling hot water or heavy force.
      I think they way to get bigger crystals is to add more eborax into the solution. But to be fair I havnt left any for more than 25-36 hours.

    can you use watercolor paint or oil paint instead of food coloring to mix in with the liquid solution?
    i don’t want to attract pests and i’m hoping the color would pop up more.

    • @SebMakesStuff
      @SebMakesStuff  8 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      You could certainly try. I'm not sure how that may effect the chemical process depending on the particular paints you chose to use. But I found that my preferred way to color them was to coat them in inks once they had finished. Then sealing them up with a gloss varnish or even clear nailpolish. That way they are extra sealed up from any pests and long term they are protected from moisture (as high humidity and moisture can ruin them over a period of time)

    I did that I did the water and the borax then I made my little tree and I put it in the borax and the food coloring water of course just how you're doing it and nothing happened for 24 hours nothing happened nothing I'm so disappointed it makes me feel like that TH-cam.

    • @SebMakesStuff
      @SebMakesStuff  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you watch my full length video I go into more detail. But I have had many versions fail on me in the past aswell. The trick is to make sure you have the borax fully dissolved into the water untill the water is unable to dissolve any more borax. If you don't have enough or the water isn't mixed slowly enough then the borax won't crystalise. It needs to have quite a lot of borax but it needs to be mixed in slowly as it is stirred in at a heat

    I want to do this. But will fine wire work instead of pipe cleaners?

    • @SebMakesStuff
      @SebMakesStuff  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think you'll struggle with fine wire for the crystals to grab a hold. The reason the pipe cleaners work so well is because the ends are left fluffy and this gives the small starter crystals something to catch on. But you could certainly try it out. I have a longer video on my channel showing the full process in more detail if you need any more info

    • @karenlee5194
      @karenlee5194 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@SebMakesStuff in case I can't find pipe cleaners, I'll try using fuzzy wires. They're somewhat the same. Anyways, thanks for the tip.

    • @SebMakesStuff
      @SebMakesStuff  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Getting it to mix in properly is by far the hardest part. I've had a lot of failed attempts at making other things crystallised because of the way I mixed it. I really hope that you can nail it down and end up with something beautiful 😍

    • @SebMakesStuff
      @SebMakesStuff  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Not at all, I ended up not using it most of the time and painting the crystals using inks later. I've also seen that a lot of people paint then using clear nail polish to seal them up and add some colour

    Is the pan still safe to use for food after the borax?

    • @SebMakesStuff
      @SebMakesStuff  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You can use boiling water to totally remove the borax from anything, even in it's full crystal form. So with a few runs under boiling water I would imagine so. Also borax is a cleaning product that is used as an all purpose cleaning product. So as long as you clean it away properly I imagine it would be perfectly safe. But I always recommend reading the warnings on the labels if you are worried about particular situations.
      And I personally used a cheap pot that I use for crafting and not a generally used kitchen pot.
