Thank you for this. I just installed active captain and updates on my 8610xsv and my screen appearance totally changed! I panicked at first but the lady at Garmin emailed link to this video. Now it makes sense!

Thank you for this. I just installed active captain and updates on my 8610xsv and my screen appearance totally changed! I thought it was something I did but now I understand. But what I can’t understand is WHY? Unless I can get the hang of this new UI, is there a way to uninstall and return to previous?

I was frankly shocked when this new UI was released without any change in the User manual. It was, in my view, a display of very poor software management. I called Tech Support when it hit my GPSMap 1242 and was told they too were "blindsided" by the new interface. I had to ask 4 times over 3 months for an updated manual. They literally sent me a hardcopy the WRONG manual 3 times. Now, it's a year later and I'm comfortable with this UI. I actually view it as a smart improvement now. It's just hard to forget how poor the introduction was handled.

Did Garmin utilize Beta testers when they developed this UI, this is brutal? I'm available to help so are many others, please reach out to some of us and improve this software. I just purchased an 8610 and a 8612 after owning 2 Strikers, if I watched this video before I purchased them, I would've gone elsewhere for my Fishfinder.

As an IT developer and web page designer, I must say Garmin took three steps backward with this new UI. What was relatively simple, intuitive and straight forward, is now much more complicated, un-intuitive and convoluted, to be polite. And sadly, this webinar wasn’t anything to brag about either. It would have been much more effective if it was a real video of John navigating his way on the MFD showing all the steps required to accomplish a certain task, rather than random screen shots. For each of the tasks, it is always more helpful to start from the home page, rather than jump around leaving one to wonder how he got there in the first place. Yes, we will all suffer through a painful learning curve and eventually learn what we need to know to perform the functions we use most often. But it didn’t have to be this way.

Why would Garmin take software that was so simple and user friendly and make it complicated please give us a way to go back to what we had

I agree! We bought Garmin bc the system used to be user friendly and intuitive. Now it’s stuffed with options that I don’t need, and the functions I want are dug deep into layers after layers in the menu - pardon, options. Even waypoints disappeared from the main screen. Terrible!

I just got a new 1243svx and I have been confused for two weeks. All the videos and manuals are for the old interface and I have been struggling. Finally I found this video on the new UI so at last I know why I couldn't find anything that matched the old tutorials.

Oh I see from the comments I'm not the only one that thinks the new interface is not intuitive. I'm still very frustrated with the new unit I bought last year. This could've been done a lot better and simpler.
