Excellent. As always. I always say - do it for your self. Right place right time. If it don't happen then that's life. Try again, got to be in it to win it. If you love it you'll produce it any way. Just might take a while longer. Some agent/management told me once "it can take up to thirty years to become an overnight success. 45 years later I'm still giving it a go. Do I ever get sick of it? The writing and producing? NO. The banging the head against the brick wall? That doesn't hurt anymore. Creators create no matter what.
Off topic, your room sounds great. I’d love to get a video on the design/ treatment. Tight and flat without being dead. Would like my new room to sound similar!
Good advice. When I record something I don't think is that good others like it. When I record something I think is good no one else likes it. I do this because I like it. If I did not like what I was doing I could not spend the hours I do at it. My problem is the final mix. I get it sounding good in my room then when I run it to you tube the vocal sounds like there is a blanket over it all muffled. It wears me out. Then I have to just move e q around and keep loading in to you tube to see which one is less muffled. If I could get past the blanked sound I could get a lot more done. Finally I just give up and go with it.
There always seems to be some people around me who don't like anything I do. But knowing what they like it's just confirmation that I'm doing the right thing. As far as the mixing is concerned... 1. Maybe youtube is converting your audio and affecting the sound. Check the upload specs. 2. Test your mixes in your car, alternate speakers, send to your phone and listen on the phone speaker. 3. As your mixing periodically in mono. You can usually do this on your mixer or speaker controller box or a Utility / Stereo 'fixer' type plugin on your last insert on your master buss.
I believe is insecurity about their creativity. Understandable, but ultimately silly. You create what you create. The value other people might give it is irrelevant. Nothing wrong with dreaming of success but you can't allow it to drive you. You have to do it for the right reasons, because if you do, you'll do it for the rest of your life regardless of anything.
And just one more reason why I subscribe to your channel! Well said. I don't think Forest Gump said this, but if you don't know where you're going, you're probably not going to get there...
I like this I really appreciated you speaking on this I feel like I am very fake you’re correct it’s easy to spot a fake but its also hard not to compare myself or copy others i feel like when you’ve always done it your way it’s easy to stick to that but as soon as you start thinking about if you’re good enough it’s a sticky trap to get out of because that’s when you feel the need to see what other people are doing
My Love for music.. eeehhh its more like obsession.. OCD.. Well, one can call it craziness. I still do it. I am ok if it does not work.. It works daily when i practice or compose. I just feel bad spending hours in studio while i could spend the same time with my kids too. I can compose and practice in front of my kids. Thats the only way i can get both worlds. Voila, i got an answer while tying this.. Thanks.
Definitely right Billy, today I saw a video popping up about two producers who supposed to criticize the new Peter Gabriel record. I was thinking 💭 Why the heck should I watch that 😂 I think Peter Gabriel knows what he’s doing, I like to listen to music not criticize it, but it seems important to criticize everything these days. I think it’s just stupid 🤔
Criticize Peter Gabriel???? Maybe they don't know about his past and the kind of artist he is. But I'm Peter doesn't care. There are artists that I LOVE who've put out albums I didn't like but I never get mad. They're doing their thing. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Thanks. Very food information. The older I get the leas I listen to orhers. I just bought a Moog One synth that is quite expensive. But I did not ask anyone, just looked within if this was something I really needed. Sometimes there is so much noise and opinions.
Had to go back and watch this one. Great advice Billy.
Very true! Don’t let everyone else’s opinion become your career guidance. Know who you are and follow your own path!!!! Sound advice Billy…💜

Ha ha! Love it! The way I look at it is - I want to do what I want to do.

@@FreakingOutWithBillyHume I think it is you tube converting because all is good in the car. Thanks so much for the help I will check in to that. 👍👍
Thanks so much.....!
thank you

Exactly! Best not to think about that stuff too much and just do your own thing the best you can.
Well Said Billy. 🔥
