Very well done, and very much appreciated. But why is the English Dance out of order on this recording? It's part of the "Entertainment" dance recital, and it belongs with the other five Dances. Why end the Nutcracker ballet with this little piece, when the Apotheosis is so right? It's kind of a bridge, I suppose, to La Sylphide, but no orchestra plays non-stop for over two hours. Ideas, anyone?
@@johnleroy1031 I have never heard, nor heard of, an "English Dance" in connection with The Nutcracker. Hearing it now, it reminds me of the American South.
My parents took my little sister and I to see this ballet once. Saying that it was enchanting, is an understatement. Forever a Christmas and rest of the year favorite.
I was a ballerina, but never had the pleasure of dancing in this production. The music is superb and the story is exciting, sweet and tender. I can't go through a Christmas season without listening to it several times and I can't listen to it without getting goosebumps! Thank you Peter Ilyich!

I'm a bell-ringer for the Salvation Army and this music HELPS ME KEEP SMILING AND RINGING AND BRINGING THE CHRISTMAS SPIRIT TO THE SEASON FOR 8 HOURS STRAIGHT! Helps to stay positive when it's so cold, too!
Luckily he was not ahead in time. The time ahead him would be gray. Nowadays we don’t have such masters. This is the time of shadow and emptiness. He lived at the right perfect time.
The whole ballet is a masterpiece, I find it dramatically flawless, incredibly dramatic and astonishingly touching. I will go watch it live for the first time in the Palais des congrès de Paris for Christmas and I just can't wait, I am 25 and I feel like a 10 year-old kid ❤️
Might be the greatest music ever composed & is one of the many reasons Tchaikovsky is the greatest of them all because of his astounding versatility. In addition to his magnificent ballets he excelled at opera, symphonies, concertos, choral, chamber, stand alone masterworks such as Capriccio Italien & was one of the first great song writers (None But the Lonely Heart).
From the man who combined church bells and cannons in a piece of music about French people being chased out of Moscow, he sure does nail the spirit of Christmas!
The first and second part of your sentence have no logical connection or reason to exist together. Here's some more: For a man who likes dogs, he sure knows how to drive a car! For a man who play tennis, he sure knows how to play the violin. For a man who is married, he sure loves reading books! Are people getting stupider... or does the internet just let them appear more?

Ah, Pyotr Ilyich Chaikovskiy! His first teacher of music didn’t believe in his success as Chaikovskiy came into music rather late. But a genius can come early or late - still this is a genius.
I am a ballerina but a young one. I love listening to this music as I dance. The Nutcracker ballet has always made me want to become a better ballerina.
I know this whole music list by heart, and know every song and what happens during each part of the music I never got a chance to dance in the show but working on it and seeing all the effort everyone put into this tradition makes me happy everytime I think of it
One thing I always loved about The Nutcracker was that in retrospect the whole story is almost just one long happy ending. Like all the action happens in the beginning ofc but then it’s just a celebration for the rest of the ballet and nothing bad or scary happens. I fucking love that😭
Maybe, if you want to gush about childish concepts like non-scary, happy time parties... Try not ending your comment with vulgar swearing like low-class filth.
As a child I was always a little bit afraid of the Nutcracker standing in the living room of my grandparents... looking so serious... until they took me to see the Nutcracker in the opera house ... from that moment on I was just in love with the music :D Thanks for reminding me !
I took my daughter to see the Nutcracker it was so beautiful. She ended up playing 1st string violen then went on to play the cello. This brings back such wonderful memories ❤
Summers 1960's & 70s, the NYC ballet would practice The Nutcracker Suite Christmas production at Saratoga performing arts center -it was dirt cheap or free for lawn seats, we'd go in the summer and have picnics... (Also Swan Lake, Peter and the Wolf) And when I was older, of course went to the holiday productions in Boston and New York... But running around barefoot in the summer fantasizing about Christmas was something special! When a lot of my friends went to Disney world. They can have it! The Nutcracker Suite is one of the most magical aspects to Christmas I also play/played the violin! And I happen to be staring at a nutcracker right now! Wonderful memories - I hope you have many more. Happy holidays!
I've been listening to this everyday studying for my final exams lol my family's tradition was to go watch The Nutcracker every year right before Christmas! It brings back so many good memories.. I've also played this in my orchestra in high school which was really fun! I love Tchaik. He's my favourite composer along with Chopin.
This music brings back so many memories of dancing in the college production of the Nutcracker as a younger child. I love the Nutcracker with a deep love. It is graceful and full of emotion and so wonderful to dance! I hope to dance in it many more times in my life! Ballet is amazing and just a joy to do!
I was in the Nutcracker for the first time this year! It was super exciting to be able to rehearse with the company to bring everything to life. Super grateful for the wonderful opportunity and I'm looking forward to the upcoming shows. :D
This music unfolds like a picture book full of stars, where birds come spinning, spinning farandoles, cracking rattles and dancing wizards. From rounds to nursery rhymes, the arrangements display their mystery and the instruments have the roundness and brilliance of chimes 🌿🎋
Yess, and you would be waiting in the wings with just the spotlights on stage lights shine through them, and all the professionals would be quick changing... The whole production was my childhood... I danced for Santa Barbara Ballet, they would come every Christmas to my town in colorado, and they would hold auditions for the child parts in it
My older sister used to be a ballerina, and we'd always watch her perform in the Nutcracker. I didn't enjoy it at the time, but I regret not appreciating it until now.
A very goodmorning to you all dear souls as One Thank you for this wonderfull musical Artwork, listen within the ears of a spiritual light of heart as a little child and the sun shines within and out through a window in a sweet home as I am not observing the wordly affairs of today but I have become and play the nutcracker part as one self, wish you all a wonderfull glorius day - love and keep a peacefull mind within one heart as all
My very favorite Christmas music. I was first introduced to it by my son when he was in college. Then I had the opportunity to experience it live in Boston once with my daughter and then with friends. It was amazing and I'll always remember it.
I had the privilege to be a "ballerina" and be a part of the nutcracker. I started training pointe and within a year was on stage doing turns and jumps. I don't know how I was able to do that, something happened on those nights of performances. didn't fall or trip. Hearing 41:25 and 42:12 reminds me of how intense everything felt. IVE NEVER FELT LIKE THAT in my life again. I MISS IT SO MUCH !!!!!!!!!!!!! I seriously don't know how that was able to happen. (I was dancing next to trained dancers that had 7+ more experience than me, that's why it's so insane I did that lol) I wish I could relieve that moment :))) FOREVER GRATEFUL FOR EXPERIENCING THIS IN MY LIFE
My family watched The Nutcracker and The Sound of Music every year when I was a child. I still enjoy The Sound of Music, but it's not Christmas without The Nutcracker. Its beauty still moves me to tears and makes me do socks-in-the-kitchen ballet.
growing up, every christmas I'd go pick out a dress, go into the city and watch the nutcracker with my grandma. i have such fond memories it and hope to take my kids maybe :3
I did ballet as a little girl and hearing this music always reminds me of the one time when I got to preform and take part in the nutcraker. I was nothing more than a little snow angel but it was still a magical experience I'll never forget.
My parents used to take me to see the Nutcracker every year when I was little, but I haven't seen it in years, so I was surprised when I listened to this and I remembered the melodies of so many of the songs! Guess that shows how good Tchaikovsky was at writing memorable songs!
I never had the chance to actually “ dance “ . My mom took lots of classes ( as a kid I remember her taking me for a few lessons, but I was never really into it … ) she finally got her certification as a dance instructor years later. It’s so fun watching people dance. Watching my mom dance was so fun. She only teaches as needed , and does “ private “ lessons. Hearing this music makes me feel like a kid again.
Quotation marks around single words can occasionally be used for emphasis, but ONLY when quoting a word or term someone else used. Usually, this implies that the author doesn't agree with the use of the term. He said he was “working”; it looked to me like he was procrastinating -To put it another way: Putting quotation marks around "dance" and "private" suggests you are implying some kind of sex-work... Is that your true meaning?
My city did the nutcracker ballet but with figure skating and listening to this album gives me bittersweet memories. I started when I was five and preformed for almost 10 years so the nutcracker was a very big staple in my family’s Christmas traditions, and I really do miss it a lot. Just listening to the soundtrack gives me fond memories on the ice and of my last performance with the nutcracker, and that feeling that Christmas was just around the corner after the show was over. Hopefully this year I can go back and see it once again. Hope y’all have a great holiday season this year! ☺️ Edit: I got to see it again with a friend and it was just as amazing as I remembered it!!!! 😊
i know they are very famous, but dance of the reed pipes & waltz of the flowers are some of my real favourites- i just got goosebumps listening to the latter. so magical and beautiful sounding :’>
I remember the first time I read the Nutcracker, and the Mouse King (the book the ballet was based on). I was the only one at home, reading alone, in an armchair. Slowly it became dark, but I was so afraid of the mice in the book, that I didn't dare to get up, and go across the dark room to switch on the lights. XD I set there for hours till my parents came home. XD
i will see the nutcracker for the first time in two weeks. i am really excited to be able to see such a masterpiece with my own eyes! i will update insallah!
I was dragged to see a performance by the San Francisco Ballet company, many many many years ago. Hated it so much that I watch it every year when I can!
I love to hear and watch this every year. It’s my Christmas tradition for myself. I always wanted to be a ballerina but unfortunately my best skill is being clumsy with two left feet. Plus I got the short and plump genetics from my mom 😂🤣💜
I feel you on the genetics part - I wasn't allowed to audition for my city's professional ballet corps because I was too short. :( I'm now a belly dancer (and in my 40s to boot!) and love it. If you love dancing you may want to check that out as an option. :)
Hey - you're a ballerina... I was on a walker 4 years ago because of a neurological disorder - Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think I could stand up and dance again... I could never find my center of balance. I didn't give up... I started challenging myself. There was a guy with multiple sclerosis and he started working out like crazy - I did the same and I started getting my body back. This Husky Malamute that tripped in my life, started dragging me around, I couldn't use a cane and keep up with him - but he pulled me! And if I fell down? He comes back, stands next to me and I push myself up between using his shoulder blades. And I got a cheapo used kayak, just paddled around while the dog barked at me on shore I started getting upper body strength back, it started working it's way down my abdomen. Then I got myself a cheap four-wheeler, fixed it up using TH-cam videos, run my Malamute, and you got to stand up a lot to see the trails... great exercise going up and down on that four-wheeler, balancing with the handlebars ... I started getting my thighs and core back? Fast forward over 4 years... less than 48 hours ago I just had a ballet barre installed.... It's helping me develop coordination, my muscles are popping like crazy just going through the five positions I can barely lean against it and put both of my arms up in the air - I'm straight again! and the more you practice like a ballerina, the more you'll look like one over time... It stretches us out Sometimes they call it "Pilates" now Haha! But the secret of having my own ballet barre? I'm not in a room full of abled-bodied people - so I'm not "disabled," and I'm the prettiest most talented ballerina in the room! So are you! In the Nutcracker Suite - if you're genetically shorter perhaps, you could play the starting role - Clara!
My old man was a heartless bastard But he always popped this in the boo box around the holidays Imagine my shock to have adopted an appreciation for it

I realize that my Parents paid good money to put me through Ballet,Tap,Gymnastics,.I usually took these classes right after I got out of my Grade School classes. I did learn to have better Posture from these classes. I also was able to learn how Flexible my body could be through these classes. I CAN SAY I LEARNED MUSICAL CULTURE WHILE TAKING Ballet and Tap. I am happy I had that type of exposure to this as a young person. I am glad I can make my own Choices for Extra Curricular Activities and grow from those Experiences now.

Thank you .

I was Clara in the nutcracker last year and this music never gets old! 😍
How soon do rehearsals begin ?
@@ninahallstrom4151 we actually just finished our last show a couple of days ago! we normally start close to the beginning of the year though 😊

Omg I I’m playing Clara this year!

Tchaikovsky is my favorite. I envy you! I wish I could dance; I love to watch ballet. Is it too late for you to audition for Nutcracker somewhere???
My mom was a primaballerina and danced the production many times so I had the pleasure of seeing it many many times. Big fan! Also saw it in London and Toronto! A Christmas must! 🌟✨
I is the magic of Christmas.

Hands down one of the greatest albums dropped in my opinion. Tchaikovsky was way ahead of his time.
That's so exciting! 😄🥰
Enjoy it!💙❤️😊
I also seen it for the first time in my twenties and Tchaikovsky is probably got to be one of my most favorite classical composers he kicks ass
I’m so jealous
25?? That’s so young! I wish you a long, happy life full of many performances of The Nutcracker! ❤️
Today I have finally listen to the whole nutcracker ballet for the first time and not just the famous bits.
From beginning to end it's absolutely amazing.
@@garyshaw9912 I agree. Every bit is wonderful. Not a sour note anywhere.
I'm here a night before the Christmas everything's so nostalgic brings back memories.
From the man who combined church bells and cannons in a piece of music about French people being chased out of Moscow, he sure does nail the spirit of Christmas!
The 1812 Overture - one of my very favorites.
GREAT observation!☃️☃️🎅🎅🎄
The first and second part of your sentence have no logical connection or reason to exist together. Here's some more:
For a man who likes dogs, he sure knows how to drive a car! For a man who play tennis, he sure knows how to play the violin. For a man who is married, he sure loves reading books!
Are people getting stupider... or does the internet just let them appear more?

Loveliness dating back nearly 80 yrs for me -- a ballet student beginning in the late 1940's, so pretty much immersed in this score all my long life. Just as fresh and refreshing to hear now, too! This time, swaying away over a dishpan of suds, picturing the ballet-story as I did the washing up. Simply FAB!
How sweet! I wish I could have taken ballet. I was just a clumsy ox of a girl. Not a graceful bone in my body!
@@56Veggie Take class now if you can find an adult ballet class. It's worth it, including the work to find a good class. I started when I was 20, and I have always been clumsy. I even got strong enough to do pointe, and join a small troupe. I still take class now being in my 40s and will continue. There have been several ladies at our studio who started at age 40, 50, and one even at 62! The 62-yr-old improved her balance and cholesterol levels.

I first heard Tchaikovsky's music in a Tom&jerry christmas movie, this album always reminds me of those days
I know this whole music list by heart, and know every song and what happens during each part of the music
I never got a chance to dance in the show but working on it and seeing all the effort everyone put into this tradition makes me happy everytime I think of it
Christmas without this legend is quite unthinkable, I fear....

OMG ITS EXACTLY SAME!IT WAS THE SAME WAY WITH ME! I fell in love with the opera after I watched it, before I was afraid
It’s not Christmas unless I see or hear The Nutcracker at least once.
Or all year long.
(Also Swan Lake, Peter and the Wolf)
And when I was older, of course went to the holiday productions in Boston and New York... But running around barefoot in the summer fantasizing about Christmas was something special! When a lot of my friends went to Disney world.
They can have it!
The Nutcracker Suite is one of the most magical aspects to Christmas
I also play/played the violin!
And I happen to be staring at a nutcracker right now!
Wonderful memories - I hope you have many more.
Happy holidays!

desde muy chico me encantaba Tchaikovsky y a los 13 años me llevaron a ver el cascanueces, que se convirtió en mi obra favorita hasta hoy
My son and daughter have danced in the Nutcracker at the university of lethbridge. I am so proud of them!
I had the greatest honner to dance in this production 3 times, and now almost 4. I'm so excited to dance again in this lovely show.
黄泉月 るな anime, manga, you dance beautifully.
This music unfolds like a picture book full of stars, where birds come spinning, spinning farandoles, cracking rattles and dancing wizards. From rounds to nursery rhymes, the arrangements display their mystery and the instruments have the roundness and brilliance of chimes 🌿🎋
Eloquently and artistically described! Tchaikovsky himself would be proud of such a personal review!
me uno a las felicitaciones a este hermoso trabajo por su calidad artística y su vigencia social... Exitos, Manu!!! y gracias!!
As a person who danced in the nutcracker I love hearing this music.
I could listen to Tschaikowsky for hours...
That's the best Christmas music appropriately so every year. It's timeless and still sounds great.
It's unbelievable how he actually wrote it musically to be played back then but the orchestra got it. The ascending movements are great
I've tried parts on guitar for the last thirty years.

(I was dancing next to trained dancers that had 7+ more experience than me, that's why it's so insane I did that lol)
I wish I could relieve that moment :))) FOREVER GRATEFUL FOR EXPERIENCING THIS IN MY LIFE
My family watched The Nutcracker and The Sound of Music every year when I was a child. I still enjoy The Sound of Music, but it's not Christmas without The Nutcracker. Its beauty still moves me to tears and makes me do socks-in-the-kitchen ballet.
This entire score captures the feel and rapture which is the holiday season.....🎄🎅🤶🧑🎄☃️
Brings back so many good memories.
One of many beloved works by Tchaikovsky. Beloved by us, but the man himself supposedly hated the Nutcracker Suite.
How ironic LOL! Just like Rachmaninov with his 2nd piano concerto.
growing up, every christmas I'd go pick out a dress, go into the city and watch the nutcracker with my grandma. i have such fond memories it and hope to take my kids maybe :3

This is the most beautiful music I have ever heard and I am 72 years old.
I did ballet as a little girl and hearing this music always reminds me of the one time when I got to preform and take part in the nutcraker. I was nothing more than a little snow angel but it was still a magical experience I'll never forget.
One of my favourites to listen at the end of the year!
My parents used to take me to see the Nutcracker every year when I was little, but I haven't seen it in years, so I was surprised when I listened to this and I remembered the melodies of so many of the songs! Guess that shows how good Tchaikovsky was at writing memorable songs!
I take my daughter every winter to see this ballet. It's the most beautiful Christmas event for us. Do you take your children to see the Nutcracker?
He said he was “working”; it looked to me like he was procrastinating
-To put it another way: Putting quotation marks around "dance" and "private" suggests you are implying some kind of sex-work... Is that your true meaning?
My first nutcracker was in Cairo Egypt 🇪🇬 2002 I was 13 years old, and there was an opera performance house my family and I saw.
Listening to the whole thing for the first time. Love it. Never saw whole ballet.
Божественный Чайковский !😍
My city did the nutcracker ballet but with figure skating and listening to this album gives me bittersweet memories.
I started when I was five and preformed for almost 10 years so the nutcracker was a very big staple in my family’s Christmas traditions, and I really do miss it a lot.
Just listening to the soundtrack gives me fond memories on the ice and of my last performance with the nutcracker, and that feeling that Christmas was just around the corner after the show was over. Hopefully this year I can go back and see it once again. Hope y’all have a great holiday season this year! ☺️
Edit: I got to see it again with a friend and it was just as amazing as I remembered it!!!! 😊
I’ve listened to this ballet so many times that it’s become a problem, but this is the first time I’ve seen a full length version!!
i know they are very famous, but dance of the reed pipes & waltz of the flowers are some of my real favourites- i just got goosebumps listening to the latter. so magical and beautiful sounding :’>
Son las 3:53 de la madrugada y no puedo parar de escucharlo, me digo termino éste y me duermo, sin culpas la mejor trasnochada que tengo...
XD
I set there for hours till my parents came home. XD

Ok. Thanks for the pieces. Tchaikovsky is the greatest. I have to say he’s up with the best of all.... I say he is THE BEST!!!

Benissimo grazie mille per la musica. Ciao a tutti voi.

I love to hear and watch this every year. It’s my Christmas tradition for myself. I always wanted to be a ballerina but unfortunately my best skill is being clumsy with two left feet. Plus I got the short and plump genetics from my mom 😂🤣💜
but you have a beautiful mind
@@georgedong616 awww you are sweet. Blessings to you.
To have the soul of a dancer has to be enough for most of us. They dance, we watch, and all of us are lifted up.
I feel you on the genetics part - I wasn't allowed to audition for my city's professional ballet corps because I was too short. :( I'm now a belly dancer (and in my 40s to boot!) and love it. If you love dancing you may want to check that out as an option. :)
Hey - you're a ballerina...
I was on a walker 4 years ago because of a neurological disorder -
Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think I could stand up and dance again...
And I got a cheapo used kayak, just paddled around while the dog barked at me on shore
I started getting upper body strength back, it started working it's way down my abdomen.
It's helping me develop coordination, my muscles are popping like crazy just going through the five positions
I can barely lean against it and put both of my arms up in the air - I'm straight again!
and the more you practice like a ballerina, the more you'll look like one over time... It stretches us out
Sometimes they call it "Pilates" now
Haha!
But the secret of having my own ballet barre? I'm not in a room full of abled-bodied people
- so I'm not "disabled,"
and I'm the prettiest most talented ballerina in the room!
So are you!
In the Nutcracker Suite - if you're genetically shorter perhaps, you could play the starting role - Clara!
My old man was a heartless bastard
But he always popped this in the boo box around the holidays
Imagine my shock to have adopted an appreciation for it
When I play this, (about 4 weeks ago) Christmas has officially started! May sugar plums dance in your head!
