One of the most emotionally charged episodes in television history.
I'd say the episode where KITT was dumped in acid, and cried for Michael, was nearly crippling.
Yep I still get the same feelings when I watch this scene now as when I did as a kid 35 years ago!!

Watching K.I.T.T like this breaks my heart, left alone to die the most heartbreaking one was when he got attacked by missile and he was crying out to Bonnie for help
The miracle was that KITT was able to *limp* home as broke up as he was. "We zigged when we should have zagged." KITT's dry humor- amazingly intact, which can't be said for most of the rest of him.
One who wears a leather jacket, while in the Nevada desert, is one to be feared.

I always thought they should have had somebody find KARR's CPU and put it into a new model of Goliath. It was insane that they didn't do that.

Not for nothing, but the voice acting by William Daniels in this scene (and indeed entire series) is outstanding. An AI is emotionally vulnerable and it's believable. Daniels doesn't get nearly enough credit. One of the reasons this show worked so well is that K.I.T.T. was believable as a character in his own right. That came from his personality which was very much given to him by Mr. Daniels.
AND it's the same actor who's character on St. Elsewhere I initially hated and was a little scared of. (Got over that eventually tho'.)
Glad William Daniels read the script the way he wanted to rather than in a robotic way that was suggested. Michael would have had as much report with K.I.T.T. as I do with Alexa. And that wouldn't have been much of a show.
Thank heavens for William Daniels. He made K.I.T.T., well, K.I.T.T.

I VIVIDLY remember these episodes as a child ... Seeing them smashed up like that in the desert genuinely scared me.

For all the camp and cheese of this show (and many other 80s shows), you have to give props to the stunt driver(s). Some of the simpler stunts, like a burn out, drift slide, 360 and the 180 backwards, Hasselhoff learned to do, but the more complicated stuff...kudos to those stuntmen.
When I was a kid and this episode came on I wouldn't let anyone be in the room with me while I watched it. This was super, super serious s***.

First time I met K.I.T.T. and David ..err Michael, was at the Cleveland Autorama, ...in the greatest decade, the 80's! Thank God I grew up back then! I was 10 and flying high that day, on pure excitement!
First saw this in 1984, when I was 7 years old. I remember wondering at the time why Michael didn't just push KITT back over onto his wheels before climbing back in...36 years later, I still don't get why he didn't...it's not as though it would have been hard to do, unless KITT happens to weigh a lot more than a normal car, but there's nothing onscreen to suggest that's the case.
I was wondering that for years. I am thinking that is the case. That KITT was much heavier than a regular car. I was also curious when I first saw this how did he get out of that situation being the engine was shot. Now I realize it was as if they were in a ram jet with the turbine boost powering them
I definitely wondered this myself! I think KITT had some heavy armour built in. (I forgot the name of it.) Not to mention all of his gadgets and things that would probably add in a ton of weight. But I'm still not 100 percent sure.
@@Aidenwilliams007 The Molecular Bonded Shell which Elizabeth Knight drugged Devon and stole the formula for it to use on Goliath for Garthe. David Hasselhoff did a wonderful job playing both Garthe and Michael

This was probably the best episode of Knight Rider.
Michael and Kitt met their match.
Kitt versus Car was more comical than anything.
This didn’t make much sense to me when I was young and watching it. I got what they were going for but in reality even with Goliath having a molecular shell that doesn’t make kitt weaker as he has the same shell. It should just mean neither can harm each other. I get Goliath is bigger but indestructible molecular shell means indestructible molecular shell so it should just cancel out

Never saw a published weight on KITT. But I would assume at least 2.5 tons. Think about it: he had a molecular bonded shell. That's added weight. He had computer equipment and gadgets up the ying yang. By 1982 standards, they weren't very light in construction. If he weighed less than 5000 lbs, I would be thoroughly impressed...
@@marioiacolucci Well, that is a 3200lbs car, on it's side in the sand, plus Knight is alone, in the desert, and not really in much better shape than the car is at that point, he might have had trouble putting K.I.T.T. on all 4 with the help of that Miner and his Donkey.

That's fitting, seeing how often Michael and K.I.T.T. were at Hill Valley's town square throughout the course of the series.
Maybe that's why there's no roads where they are.

Indeed it was quite a suprise that the car could be destroyed and I was pleasantly suprised when it was repaired as good as new.
Can't read schematics, better build a ramjet instead. Seems legit.
Now as we are older we know that ram jets would not have worked either.
The fact that a ram jet has to be in motion to start with has irked me for decades.
OptimalOptimus50 what? Ramjets have been built for decades. It’s a fairly simple design. Wouldn’t have worked here tho since it can’t start without airflow.

I am so lucky to have grown up watching this iconic show love you Kitt and Michael. I don't envy kids today they would have loved to have watched this masterpiece

I was brought here by an episode of "The Goldbergs"--that "80s show"! The one where Adam tapes every Knight Rider episode because he's a fan. Watching that episode made me miss my own obsession with Knight Rider, and since it hasn't been in re-runs in years, I went back to the episodes I remember like this one. I think I want to get the complete series, its available on DVD from amazon for 20 bucks! Real bargin for high quality television like you don't see anymore

I was 15 when I watched this episode's premiere. I remember asking me how Michael could fix Kitt with no training nor tools, nor repo parts in the middle of a desert!

7:00 KITT's "odds calculator" has like 3 inputs, and one of them is "Just got turbine converted to ramjet as temporary fix after collision with armoured truck"
And some of that odds calculator SFX came right from Airwolf, I think.
I called my first cat Kitt. He was 3 weeks old (geddit? KITTen?) and I was 3 years old. He was also black of course. It's funny because now I'm 39 and I still talk to my cat exactly the same way Michael talks to KITT.
And no, he's not the same cat.

If the show had lasted 1 more season, they would've had to find away to make it happen. Garth was killed and KARR was destroyed.

I loved that part. Still makes me laugh. It's even funnier because KITT kept telling Michael the odds about everything before this happened. Lol

When they added Super Pursuit Mode in the 4th season, they hit 300+ miles an hour regularly...
Spm full potential was 445mph
Even though Goliath was bigger and proportionately more indestructible (that's my theory anyway) KITT still wasn't structurally that tore up. He had massive circut damage though. Some damage to the outer shell of the car and some componets on the outside. Overall if it wasn't for the technological damage. I'd say that's a pretty damn solid car. Love KR then and still now. They will never duplicate the quality of this show

Essentially it was the equivalent of a big truck side swiping a sports car from the 80's since they both had the same molecular bonded shell.
Goliath had the size and mass to do major damage to KITT.
He might not have been torn up that much but he was torn up more than enough after that one hit from Goliath.
Plus, this was the first time in the series where he actually took some serious damage. Up until this moment the most that ever happened was a damaged alpha circuit.
Nothing on the outside that was visible though.
Goliath pretty much knocked KITT on his ass and most of us just weren't ready for that.
@@tdtellem very true. But then came the total shocker of the episode in Season 3 Junkyard Dog where KITT is completely destroyed after being dumped in a toxic waste acid pit. That episode was the first time we see that car destroyed like that. And it made you think. How is KITT going to come back from that
@@markraimo1283 You know it's funny, even after seeing him in that acid bath, what happened to him in Knight of the Juggernaut still shook me up when I was a little kid, and I still have a hard time watching that scene to this day.
This scared me. They made an event out of these episodes. I thought about this for a long time.

This aired when I was in 7th grade. I wrote in to get the KITT kit like Michael was using to fix KITT. Never could figure out why Michael didn't just push KITT onto his wheels after repairing him. It should have been relatively easy.

2022 and still a beautiful car, i have a 86 K.I.T.T trans am.
So he fixed a wrecked KITT's engine into a "ram jet" (whatever THAT means).
With no tools using his bare hands.
In the desert alone.
On a car laying on its side.

James Noble yea, like in one of the Star Trek movies, the Klingon vessel is cloaked and Uhura comes up with the idea to use the gas sensors onboard to modify the photon torpedoes so they will take it out. Gee, I surprised one of the Starfleet scientists have figured that out many years ago?
Paul Lee The Klingon vessel in Star Trek 6 was the first vessel to ever be able to fire while cloaked, and the sensors were tracking the path of the torpedos and not the ship itself. So it’s not that the problem wouldn’t have been solved by someone else, it was simply the first time the problem was encountered.

Oh, you meant "scramjets"? Then look up the X-43A. Flew at almost Mach 7 in 2004.
I never forgot the one where Kitt sank in toxic waste and Michael couldn't get him out until dawn and then Kitt was actually afraid to give it his all.

Yeah, I love how the toxic waste disintegrated the entire interior, but strangely enough left a few wires and a perfect set of Goodyear tires unharmed! LOL! That one is one of my favorites, along with Killer KITT.

Money was spent well back then. Now just cgi. With practical effects the show aged gracefully. Now we can look back and Marvel at the real stunt work and miniature models.

KITT said that navigation would be vitally impossible, which is why the car wasn't steering straight.
Shouldn't be weaving like that at that speed at all, the car would just flip over 1000000 times and even Micheal's hair wouldn't save him. I did like how they used airplane noises for the scene, though.
Kitts voice in this episode scared me when I was a kid
KITT doesn't Turbo Boost in this episode at all, yet we heard the sound effects normally used for Turbo Boost in this scene. Love it when they do that.
If I remember correctly, Michael pressed the turbo boost button to get KITT started.
His turbo boost could be used for different functions
Turbo boost was used to initiate the ram jet. Hence why you heard it
