Even though these videos are for guilty gear, I find that a lot of it can be applied to many fighting games, thank you for the effort, I'll be sure to do my part

I picked up GGXXAC+R just before the Rollback patch was announced. I main Sol. I've been practicing my anti-airing and poking, and basic Gatlings. Now, I am comfortable with anti-airing and poking, and have begun applying pressure with gunflame. Playing CPU matches and watching tournament vods has been a great help in learning how to respond to certain situations. I hope to learn more about Guilty Gear's system mechanics in the days to come. Thank you for creating this video.

I bought GG Xrd (Rev 2) 2 weeks ago and see your first video yesterday in ordrer to learn the game with your method. To sum up this exercise in the game :
    > Learning : I realize that P and K are useful tools to prevent attack from my opponent and are tools to disrupt some combos. Before watching this video, I used only H or D attacks to make more damage in ordrer to try to survive
    > Issue : This exercise was boring until 15mn to practice it in the dojo. So, I was going to in the lobby to test this exercise against a novice player and it's funnier against a real opponent.
This is a really good exercise to learn the basics of the game. Your process is not daunting. Thank you for teaching me Guilty Gear mecanics !

I am so excited to watch the rest of the series! I'm brand new to fighting games and was introduced to Guilty Gear this summer. I have progressed a lot since then but I feel like I don't have a whole lot of direction. I think this will help me build a good set of tools and solidify concepts I'm still a little fuzzy on. Looking forward to the rest of the series!

      Stick with dude,
Once you learn the general concepts of fighting games you can take those skills and
Apply them to any fighting game,
fighting games are a great tool for mental training and self analysis.
My tips are learn to adapt, learn to love losing( you should never give up but every loss is an opportunity to correct yourself and improve)

    Simply outstanding.
I bought this game day one (after having previously tried it at Hey arcade in Akihabara) and have tried and failed numerous times to wrap my head around it and just lapse back into Street Fighter. I watched a lot of high level play, but it seemed like complete chaos to a SF player.
It's great to finally have it broken down clearly and concisely without an overload of information. Looking forward to the rest of this series.

Very nice idea for a video series. I've always been more of a "Monkey See, Monkey Do" type of learner when it comes to fighting games, as opposed to notations and paragraphs of "theory fighter" I always found GG to be difficult to play on a base level, but I've felt myself getting better over the last month after giving Xrd another try. I'll try to apply the spacing knowledge in this vid in my next online session.

    Good introduction to fighting games!
I remember trying to introduce a friend, who i would consider a gamer, to persona 4 Arena, I put him through the combo training (Teddie!) to start him off... It was a disaster! Even simple concepts like chaining moves was difficult and combined with the fast button inputs he found it near impossible and said "It's the hardest game I ever played!"
I imagine the guilty gear learning-curve would of been terrifying.... heck even i find the idea of 6 button terrifying lol!

Hey, I picked up guilty gear and used these resources a lot to get started, and i still come back to them to make sure there aren't holes in my play.
One thing on anti airs that I realized after reading machabo's fundamentals guide is that for both ground spacing and anti airs a lot of the time its hard to always do things on reactions. Sometimes it's better to keep those hitboxes out to discourage raw instant air dashes.
For Sol I'll actually cycle between his 5K and f.S/5H just because sometimes it's hard to 5K on reaction, and i only really use his 6P on reactable stuff like divekicks.

Tried this with a new character against a friend (we actually were playing AC for a good hour or two because I have zero Johnny experience so I didn't notice lol). Far slash was the mvp for stuffing a good 90% of what he was doing about halfscreen away, though moves like greed sever, alpha blade, and grand viper either low profiled or clipped my extended hurtbox (which cost me a round or two).
One of the good things I noticed was that f.S alone made him try to take to the air constantly, so I just started pressing 5HS instead.

Are you gonna make a new series for Strive or no? Cause I wanna get into fighting games. I tried out FighterZ, the combos were too long (as in I got combo'd for 30+ seconds as soon as I made one mistake) and it seems like Strive would be the best choice due to the floor system, rollback netcode, general depth of the game, and cause the music is siiick.

  • @bohdanherasymenko7569
    @bohdanherasymenko7569 2 ปีที่แล้ว

So I've gone and trained this concept mostly in story mode for about 20 hours over a week.
It sounded super simple when watching video but was quite hard to execute. I found out that Ky's 2H sucks, it takes ages to come out, has very low height and very weird placement. Usually 2H hits opponent already standing on the ground, that's how slow it is + what my reaction time is. Sol's 2K is alright, since it's fast, but still very short and AI actually can do moves mid air to "wait out" AA and punish.
So even with easy AI I've grown very reluctant to press any buttons against airborne opponent, since they either block, we both get counter hit or their attack is better and they can still hit me ignoring my AA. Maybe their weapon is longer or whatever
Space control is also scary, since opponent can always anticipate 5S or something and jump and airdash above my attack to punish. Also almost every hit leads to 15-hit combo
But on a positive side I've noticed how combo scaling works and even my occasional single attacks would deal comparable damage to 2 15-hit combos
Also, it's clear now that the best defence is offence

  • @heavymetalmixer91
    @heavymetalmixer91 9 ปีที่แล้ว

Usually I (a Millia player) use 5P, 5K, c.S, f.S and 2D to control space (2D is fast and has a lot of range). But in the case of 6P it gets complicated because it starts slow but it recovers even slower!

  • @crayfish40
    @crayfish40 7 ปีที่แล้ว

This is my first fighting game I've ever tried. I hadn't done the tutorial before watching this so I did that first and just a couple of things to note from that. Moving is hard. I don't always dash the first time I want to do it and have to try and input again. The same goes for just remembering what buttons do what. Jumping is something I'd like to avoid for now. Not once was I able to do the jumping gatlings in the tutorial without missing at least one but, usually two of the hits.
I decided I'd try Baiken and after some checking the universal ground control and anti-air options work for her, 5s/2s and 6p.
I've been playing vs easy AI and I win by a small amount trying to focus on just the principles in this video. The difficulties I've had so far have been learning how to use the anti-air effectively. The AI doesn't seem to jump a lot, some characters more then others. I miss it 80-90% of the time after about 45 minutes of play including my time in the tutorial. With ground control, I prefer 2s over 5s as it seems to have longer range. It is difficult to remember to move towards the AI after a hit to try and get them in the corner.
I don't know how to convert a slash hit into any sort of follow up at the moment and I hit my anti-airs so infrequently I can't even imagine trying to do a short combo afterwards. If anyone knows a basic follow up though I'd like to hear it so I can work on practicing it once I start getting hits more often.
    Fighting games are hard...

I've tried so hard to get into fighting games. I've spent a fair amount of hours in Tekken and SFV, but it just didn't click with me. This time I'm giving GGST a chance so here I am! Lets hope it sticks with me this time.

guilty bits for xrd? pretty cool. altho i always thought guilty bits lacked basic/bnb/beginner-intermediate combos at the end of each character tutorial.

+Chopz Meister guilty bits was intended to help people figure out a character to play I think, not so much for combos.

Really awesome get-go! I will use this to switch from SF to GGXrdR. I really love the new school fighting games and tried my luck with BB once but I didn't have the energy to stay at it.
Here's my question: Apparently in Europe (I'm playing from Germany) there are a LOT of players that already emerged from being total noobs to *at least* average players; meaning I can see no land fighting against them and start button mashing super fast. (Sadly I land a lot of hits like that. :D )
So long story short I can't find European players at my level to fight against to try out what you're telling me. The beginner and easy level arcade episodes don't seem to do the trick for me either. What's your idea for having a good zoning training partner if the community is too high level?

Did you try finding people o hardedge?
Its a german FGC forum . A lot of GG players meet there and play in Private lobbys.
There are Players at basicly every skill lvl.
You can find people to play offline 2.

Is there a version or part I should skip to if I have played FGs for 10+ Yrs thus understand fundamental concepts/frame data? I just come from the SF/VF/DoA communities. Played anime games before just not too into them. Have replicated combos from vids and seen high impact games and also played Marvel for the type of fast pace stuff I've already seen.

Oh wow, I thought all I should be doing is airdashing around to apply pressure. I've played SF for so long and didn't realise the same concepts applied here lol.

+Tim Lockley neutral just happens really fast and it's rarely occurring in most anime/airdash fighters because pressure is such a constant. honestly, i never saw much a neutral until i watched GG namely because it has some of the shortest combos for its genre lmao

Tim Lockley I’ve been just airdashjnf around and landing jump ins for neutral and it hasn’t worked 😂

+novriltataki Could we discuss the term 'poke' a bit, then?
-Is it safe to assume that the base example of a poke here was Ryu's c.MK?
-What facets make a 'poke' distinctly a 'poke'?
      -Is a poke only ground/ground?
Also hoping that this, if it does get responses, doesn't get too deep in order to keep spirit with this series; few factoids for the curious, but be able to go play with the knowledge you take from here.
Great start, Novril and crew! Let's see how how this rolls.

+Ipsen13 The fireball is also a poke. I'd say any move with good range and speed that's relatively easy to hit with (compared to big rewarding stuff) is considered a poke.
