- *Chad's Encouragement below" These were some hilarious juicy expectations people have regarding relationships, whether you're talking to someone, dating, engaged or married! We hope this video not only made you feel "normal" to see that other people wonder the same things as you, but you felt a little encouraged as you process how you approach expectations in relationships.
Today's encouragement is short and sweet. You don't need to be perfect. Stop waiting on pursuing that thing. You don't need the perfect timing. Or "this" amount of money to feel comfortable. Stop holding yourself back. Our idealized versions of ourselves is an enemy to our progress as humans. I say this all from the mindset that we should strive to do better EACH AND VERY DAY, but based off the goal on doing better, not being perfect. Because when perfect is your goal, you either A. let yourself down, or B. become inactive because the goal is too high to reach. Like me. I didn't have enough time to write the most perfect encouraging description. But am I going to let that ruin my experience? Or am I going to do my best and let that be enough because that is what I have to offer based on my current circumstances. Because I am moving forward with this one, I feel light, and easy and proud that I was able to execute even with a hectic schedule and it's not my best work, but it was the best I could do right now and that is MORE THAN OKAY! So all in all... just do you best and be happy with your progress, no matter how long things take.

“Lower your expectations, and have fun!” I feel like that quote can apply to any aspect of life, including marriage 😂 it’s a beautiful challenge!
My husband is huge on expectation management which has been so healthy for our relationship! It's much easier to have a peaceful marriage when you are very clear about expectations. Even little things like him telling me when he has to work late etc so that I'm not expecting what he can't offer and then upset by it.
10:03 my husband actually expected to have zero arguments with me, whereas I come from a family where arguments were daily and considered to be healthy. So we had completely different expectations. I've slowly realised through therapy that I have some narcissistic traits and that I made my family feel bad because I am too confrontational, so I'm trying to keep my mouth more shut.

Where does one begin, so many thoughts (this may get long). Your video "Asking my wife juicy questions that guys are too afraid to ask" popped up on my feed, so I watched it. During the video I heard Chad say amen and praise God and it kind of surprised me (not that people can praise God on TH-cam), I don't usually see that very often on this platform. So I then found the previous video on that Tori ask Chad juicy questions and watched it. That led to watching another (not sure which one) and another and so on. That was just last week and I've watched 30 of your videos (including the series "Our Love Story, and finishing up the Boundaries series) and I still have several videos on my watch later list. There is so much good content, wisdom and practical application, I really really like this channel. God has used this channel to awaken some things like introspection and seeing where I'm at with certain aspects of my life. Or implementing certain aspects/activities into my daily walk. Thank you for what you have started, it is making a difference. I love how you both are so open about your faith and your encouragement to others.
Thank you for this chad and Tori. It lifted my spirits in a time when life is throwing a lot at me right now.

Around 15:25 talking about wanting to be near/ with your spouse all the time - this here is why the love languages book is so important! I recently gifted a gift edition for newlyweds to a dear friend’s daughter and son- in-law! We would have had far fewer fights in our first years of marriage if we had only understood each other’s love languages!

Chad, can you share with guys how if a girl doesn’t give an ecstatic “yes” to going out or if she tries to do it in secret, then the guy should just back off? And Tori, can you provide insight into guys as to why they should back off and what’s going through the mind of the woman? Cause girls can not be entirely sure and lead guys on for MONTHS and keep the guy holding on to hope rather than caring for him and saying no even if he’s not sure. On the flip side, it’s important for guys to recognize that and back off if it’s not an ecstatic “yes”

Concerning that very first expectation, something I’ve realized is that the world has defined that exact standard. On social media, in books, movies, tv shows, magazines, etc. it demands that to be the norm and if it changes then something is wrong and you aren’t “compatible”. I’m just so glad that is not the case in reality, and I appreciate the time you both take to even mention it and try and change the narrative. Just don’t hear it being talked about enough in the christian world. Also, after watching this video, and even in my own thoughts about relationships is that there’s no secret formula. It can be any formula really but God needs to be the foundation of that formula.
This was nicee! Thank you for normalising 'normal' I got to learn so much about relationships in general. Expectations does cause disappointment.. so best to keep that bar low.

Hi Tori and Chad. You two are amazing and obviously so in love and committed to your religion and to each other. Why did you decide to wait? I consider myself a Christian but I’ve not had the strict boundaries that you have. I understand everything that you say. If this is your choice, then an engagement and a wedding needs to happen fairly soon. I think this is what happened in our patents day, whereas now there’s no urgency. An interesting subject

On "do married people really believe singleness is enough?" As a person who has never been in a romantic relationship, but find myself completed surrounded by married people and their kids (the last of my closest friends will both be married in the next 6 months), I think it is hard to believe that married people truly believe it's enough. Honestly, it hard to even hear married people say that because I feel like it's a hindsight moment. Of course God is enough to leave you content if you spend your life single, but that's not something you guys have to worry about so it's easy to say singleness is enough and even look back on it believing that to be the case even if you might not have at the time. There is also a stigma attached to being single. The world doesn't look on it too kindly and so it's hard to fight against that and find victory and contentment!
Sorry, it's been a HARD year and just feeling like I'm so far behind in life, because of my relationship, status even though I've been through more than most at my age! I'm surviving while others are thriving and I so wish to be in that place too, but that's not always how the healing process works. It's really hard to continue to pursue healing when it was other people's sin that put you there in the first place! Grateful for a God that redeems though!! Otherwise all the pain would be worthless.

I have often wondered that myself and I do agree that it's hindsight...I am in your shoes in terms of surviving and not thriving and just feeling left behind but thats the process as you said and the only church that really talks about singleness in a holy way as much as marriage is the Catholic church within the protestant churches singleness is not looked at in the same light, I hope it changes

I’m currently engaged and will be getting married this fall! One of by biggest worries going into marriage is spending “his” money. We’re combining finances and it will be our money but he is definitely the bread winner whereas I’m a full time college student and work part time. How did you get to a place where you didn’t feel weird about spending “his” money anymore ?
