First off, thanks for tuning in y'all! We love talking about relationships. Whether you're dating, single, married, going through a heartbreak... it's all important and we want to make sure you feel seen and heard where you are in your relationship walk! This one was fun! We have both made our fair share of mistakes in dating and learned a lot lol. LEARN FROM OUR MISTAKES! lol
Anyways, I hope this piece of encouragement lands... It is something I have needed the past week. I needed to be reminded that no one is going to live my life for me. I'm not going to magically get rid of that sin. I'm not going to apparate (HP fans?) to the gym. I'm not going to naturally desire to make myself uncomfortable and stand up for what I believe in. No one will pay my rent for me. But that is how I was living... I wasn't actively fighting my sin. I was just hoping temptation wasn't that strong. I wasn't motivating myself to workout. I was waiting for the right time, all while getting upset with my body. I wasn't looking for people to support and serve. I was just waiting for someone in need to cross my path. But are we wanting to live this life actively or passively? Are you gonna let life happen to you? Or are you going to happen to life?

I actually met someone on Upward! We’ve been texting, calling, and FaceTiming for about two months now and this weekend we’re meeting in person (He lives about 3 hours away)! It’s very nerve racking , but it’s funny that your dating series started around the time that we started talking-they’ve been super helpful :)

Just started dating a guy I’ve gotten to know over the last couple of months - literally this Saturday we made it official haha. You guys’ relationship has inspired me so much & encouraged me greatly. I’m praying for a relationship like you guys have, whether this guy is it or not. Would love prayer on wisdom on how to date well & discern whether this is right or not. He’s a super godly guy & we have a ton in common, praying this works out (if it’s what God wants).

On top of having something planned, if it seems like it's going well or maybe just to add some fun, do something spontaneous. I'm married now and the one thing that always stuck to my memory was him saying "hey, do you wanna go to this gas station and get that drink I told you about?" when the date was going really well. Made me think wow he is fun and it's nice that he is showing me something that he likes!!
One of my most awkward embarrassing moments in the beginning of my relationship with my boyfriend…..we went to the movies and while walking out to our cars I said burrrr I’m freezing (it was cold in the theater) and then of course I had to prove to him that I’m really cold 😂 so I touched his arm and then grabbed his hand. I giggle and said I just wanted to hold your hand….his response “real smooth” 😆🤣 I think that was a few dates into us getting to know each other. It didn’t scare him off. We just celebrated 2 years of dating in May of this year. Now I just embrace my awkwardness and he thinks I’m adorable haha!

Awesome video! My advice would be for guys to always hold the door and other manners. My girlfriend is still blushing and smiles if I run ahead to open the door for her especially for the car. Chivalry is not dead to the modern Christian guy. Another tip would be do your research and prepare ahead. On my first date with my girlfriend I took her to a mall because there was supposed to be a huge Christmas tree and live band. Well, turns out we went to the wrong mall but that wasn’t discovered till we had already walked around the entire place. Luckily the right mall was just down the street but still that definitely made the encounter just a bit awkward.
The FIRST DO! I 100% agree that casual outing is better than a spectacular adventure or expensive date, where there’s so much pressure to “get things right”. From a girl’s perspective it is much more appealing :)

I’ve been ‘good friends’ with a guy for 2 years and we’re only allowed to date after we graduate highschool, which is in a few months. We both know we can’t do the datey stuff now, but it’s hard to keep the spark there when there’s not this active pursuit. So I’m worried that when we are allowed to date I’m not going to be very interested in it either out of fear of loosing our friendship or just because while we’re still just friends that like each other I never felt special or pursued - making me think he won’t pursue me in a dating relationship :/

My tip: Listen ACTIVELY to what your date is saying -- don't sit there prepping your answer while they're talking. Actually listen to what they have to say, and THEN take a moment to think about your answer/response. Believe me, not only will you learn a lot more, but you'll also find you're in one of the best conversations you've ever had, because people really respond when you demonstrate that level of interest in what they have to say. You'll also find that they begin to respond in the same way (even if they started out in the "here's what I'M going to say" mode).
Also, please, please, please ditch the phone (or put it in airplane mode) -- there is nothing more annoying than trying to have a conversation with someone who spends that time texting or whatever. You might as well be by yourself (and would probably enjoy it more). I actually got rude with one gal who did that to me, and asked her please to put the phone down and join me for our date. Apparently I wasn't TOO offensive, because we continued to date after that.
I love how down to earth and practical is your advice! 🤍 Taking mental notes on all your wisdom and I will for sure apply it! Thank you for staying your experiences and knowledge with us- it is truly priceless! 😍

Loved how you two divided the do's and don'ts that were so relatable and applicable. You've learnt from your own experiences and what better than sharing them and instilling the truth about intentionality (which is applicable in everything we do) !
Even in friendships, it is so important to listen actively and passively, feel understood, understand the mental space required etc (How about a friendship series/platonic ones, shall be soooo cool! )
I always tend to ask this when my friend calls up, do you just want to vent or do you want me to help you seek a solution to this problem?
When I call up someone, I always inquire if they have the mental space to hear me out.. because a lot of times you think its just a casual call but the other party has sooo much to unload and its so rude to want to end the call as it has far exceeded the time you mentally scheduled for it!
I shall surely re-watch this video and share it with all my single gals!
