He guided PlayStation through the great years and paved way for lackluster current administration. I don't think nearly as many people would put up with all the current crap if Shu (and others of that era) didn't make us huge fans of the company back then.
@@geronimosantillan7067 Oh, without question. Kutaragi was the Steve Jobs of PlayStation. Once PlayStation went the off the shelf parts route with Mark Cerny, which was supposed to make game development easier when the PS3 was harder to develop for? Well, in the PS3 era, Sonys first-party were releasing games every two years. PS4, we got three games from Naughty Dog and one from Media Molecule. PS5? We're five years in and Naughty Dog just announced their first game...... Easier hardware, huh? Plus, Kutaragis innovation in hardware brought unique experiences that once devs figured it out, look at PlayStation in 2009 BOOM! The Golden Age of PlayStation
Shu is just the best. I will never forget being introduced to him during the Beyond days. Such a smart guy with just a treasure chest of knowledge and stories.
It was really cool to see how much Shu cared about games and how much a gamer he is. From going in on the Beyond references to talking about his admiration of the Switch and newer PC handhelds. Also what a great interview, just chill and happy vibes. Shu seemed so disappointed when he thought the interview was going to be over just before the ad break, these two chatting seemed to make them both genuinely happy. Amazing to see
After i took an extended break from gaming, i returned right at the start of the PS3 era. Shu becoming a prominent public figure coincided with that perfectly and (along with beyond/kf) that era meant so much to me. Thanks Shu!
Fantastic interview Greg, love hearing his insights and a peak behind the curtain to the strategies and decision making at different flash points throughout his career. Thank you Shuhei for your astounding contribution to PlayStation over these 30+ years. Corey thanks for listening to Shu and making GoW 2018 the masterpiece it is.
Congratulations on your time at PlayStation Shuhei. I was fortunate to meet and speak briefly with Shu at Beyond 300! Thank you Greg for this interview. It was nice to hear Shu open up and talk about the sides of PlayStation we normally as gamers take into account. Shu's passion for gaming is a gift and I'm glad to see he'll still be involved. BEYOND!
Greg kept this chill but also asked probing questions that got some surprisingly candid info from the legend that is Shu. More of this sort of journalism is needed in the space!
Love hearing how collaboration played such a big role with hardware and games at PlayStation. So cool of Shuhei to pull back the curtain a bit. Good luck on your new venture what a true legend Shuhei Yoshida is!
I’m like 90% sure that it was Greg’s interview with Shu on Beyond that made me start following Greg. Great interview. Idk how Greg can make it seem like a conversation between friends, but also still get some good questions and conversation out of it when he wants to.
This was such a great interview KF (Greg and Shu!). It was cool to learn of different aspects of Playstation's history from the PS1, 3, Vita, 4 and 5. I wish we heard some more about their juggernaut console, the PS2 but either way I hope Shu can come in again!
I loved this interview, and am subscribing to the channel. Shu, you are an absolute legend. Your contribution and efforts are unmatched. One of my favorites to this day was the "How to lend your friends your PS4 games" video.
What a fantastic interview. Shu really is a legend who had a humongous impact on shaping PlayStation into the powerhouse it is today. Not often we get to see Greg in this form, but it also highlights how fantastic of an interviewer he can be. Hats off to both of you 👏🏼
Such an insightful interview. Thank you KF. ありがとうございました、吉田さん!Shuhei is the living proof that you don’t need to be a developer to be part of the video game industry. What a legend. Very inspiring! Wishing the best to Shuhei and hopefully we get to see him again in KF!
Perfect interview with a deserved legend. Greg as always finds the best cadence and direction to celebrate the humanity in the games industry. I'll be buying Shu's inevitable book day one.
This may be one of my favorite pieces of content from KF. You can tell that Greg and Shu are friends and I feel like this is rare relationship in the gaming industry. Their friendship really shows throughout the interview and how open Shu is with his answers speaks volumes to their relationship. Thanks Greg and Shu!
Shuhei is really the man behind PlayStation Studios' success. Look up how PlayStation performed before he came along and look after. He's really the one who made PlayStation produce top tier games.
Some of these responses were more candid than I was expecting. I don't know if that's due to the relationship between Shuhei and Greg allowing for a more candid environment for an interview or if that's just the kinda person Shu is, but I really appreciated that.
Obviously so glad Shu did this, the guys a legend and seems to care about games in a way that the world desperately needs, but want to say huge shouts to Greg. In all his goofiness I think we forget the guys one of the best to ever do this. A+ interview.
I gotta say it - finally managed to listen to the entire thing - masterful content! Very very rare kind of interview, excellent style and approach - Greg, hats off to you man!!
What a legendary pioneering team PlayStation had.. Ken Kutaragi Kaz Hirai Mark Cerny Andrew House Shuhei Yoshida Jack Treton Phil Harrison Shawn Layden Jim Ryan Dr. Richard Marks (creator of Eye Toy & PS Move) And the list goes on..
When I see these names, it’s insane just how frequently their names pop up in games from PS one to PS3. It’s not until the PS4-era do you see nearly all of them drop-off the credits list. It genuinely makes me sad.
One of their earlier talks in the show in indies I was thinking about Journey and I wonder if that game made Shu emotional like it did myself - the end of the show he mentions Journey and Before Your Eyes making him tear up. Wooo!
I would love PSVR2 interview with Shuhei 🥰 In the end he really sounded disappointed. I know kinda funny is kinda down on PSVR2, even though I had sooooo many amazing memories with it in the last year: Phasmophobia, RE4 and Madison are amazing VR-Ports. GT7 and No Man's Sky continue to be amazing. I also loved Behemoth and Into the Radius 💖 Arken Age, Wanderer and Hitman could be incredible in 2025 😄 I know it is not going to happen, but a talk with PSVR without Parole would be fabulous 🥰
Bryan from Without Parole said he was in contact with Greg. He mentioned it recently, but I can't remember how recent he said the conversation was. He sounded kinda down on the idea, sounded as if the talks were promising, but then he realized KF just shits on PSVR2 and doesn't really give it a chance, and Bryan didn't want the conversation to just be defending VR. He wanted to talk about it. Anyways, I agree. PSVR2 has been just as good for games as flat gaming has been. It also had more exclusives in its first year than PS5 flat did, but nobody wants to talk about it lol. Stoked for Arken Age!!
I think it's less that KF is down on the PSVR2 specifically, and rather that they shit on Sony's piss poor software support for it. There's just never been enough games coming out for it to justify the high cost to the vast majority of gamers.
@alexlyster3459 There are some great titles Sony helped to bring to the system. Horizon, GT7, Synapse, RE4, RE8, Song in the Smoke, Crossfire, Switchback, Before Your Eyes and propably some more we don't know about. I know it can always be better, and I'm the first one who would jump in the air if a Last of Us VR would be announced. I mainly play VR and right now, I still have a lot of titles I have not finished: Alien, Sub Side, Metal Hellsinger, Legendary Tales, Max Mustard, Vampire the Masqurade Justice, Snow Scout and I forgot the upcoming The Midnight Walk wich looks amazing 🥰 I know it's still not enough for most people, but it is not as bad as people make it out to be.
Can't even watch the KF guys anymore due to the Meta payscale levels of shade they throw at PSVR2. Not at all unbiased/informed reviewing of the platform or games.
@@alexlyster3459 3rd party support is actually fantastic. Feels like amazing games come out almost every month but yes first party support is dry ATM, except with GT7 continuing to be updated.
Love the KF shirt on Shu! Beyond! Also: Greg doesn’t get enough credit as an interviewer. Some really good questions here that dug into Shu’s entire history at PlayStation. Great job, KF team.

The way this guy’s mind works is incredible. The way he thinks about games and wanting people to explain it as a feeling. This guy is a true legend.

Great job guys! And Shu is great as always.
