Excellent presentation that is loaded with pearls as others have mentioned. No matter what our area of endeavor is; it's important to know how to market ourselves. (I'm a freelance medical writer.)

I'm currently in the military, but the urge to put down roots is enticing. How realistic is it to leave the military and go straight into being a loan officer? Are there "stepping stones" to the career? Preferably a salaried LO with benefits for an easy transition to support a family of four!
These podcasts are fantastic! I'm still going through them, so I'm sorry if this has already been discussed!

Great video: Quick question: What happens if I pass NMLS and not able to get sponsored (company sponsorship) to complete the application and obtain my NMLS License #.
Where do I look to find a company that will sponsor me or do you have any ideas/companies that will sponsor a new NMLS applicant.
Age group, people that are older than 45 and looking for a career change would lenders be willing to train and mentor someone looking to get into MLO business.

Hey Johnny - great question! I would not worry about not finding a mortgage company willing to on-board and hire you. Now…that does not mean say “yes” to the first person that asks you to the homecoming dance but it should not be an issue. Same applies to the your concerns on NMLS and sponsored company etc. Personally, we have had good success with folks transitioning into a 2nd career. No concerns there. In regards to finding the right company…Google and call. Reach out to your circle of influence, tell them what you are looking to do and ask them who they know. Then call. Ask our local Realtor friends who they prefer to work with in your market and reach out to folks who work there and let them know what you are looking to accomplish. Rinse. Repeat.

It is a good career. It is a career that technology will ultimately disrupt first. However, strong, experienced underwriters will be required regardless of tech. You should look to start as a Processing Assistant and work your way up or as an Underwriter's Assistant. Good luck!
