Throat Capacity: 13 5/8", is that the cutting distance from blade to the frame? We are thinking of getting this bandsaw and replacing our current museum piece.

Yes, the throat measurement is from blade to the inside of the frame.

What blade would you recommend for cutting soft metals ( aluminum )? Some of our machine work will require aluminum but a lot of it is cutting different plastics. So we same blade for this work or two different blades? Thank you.

We recommend BiMetal blades. That will also cut plastic with one blade although the speed should be adjusted so it won't melt the plastic. Metal cutting is a mix between the process and the tool. When cutting wood you want your blade speed to be fast. When cutting metal you want it to be slow, close to 5X as slow. Wood cutting blades have a larger gullet and more of a hook tooth, to cut metal you will want to use a bimetal blade. These are blades made from M-42 steel which were made for cutting metals. When cutting metals you will want to run your saw (if possible) at a slow speed and use a cutting agent to keep the heat down which will lengthen blade life. That being said, if your saw does not slow down you can still cut the metals but you will go through blades much quicker. So for quick projects and such you can still do it, but for production you should have a saw that has a variable speed. We carry a full line of bimetal blades which will be up on our site soon. They are currently available for sale on ebay as well, just search Laguna bimetal and the size you need for more info. Thank you
